This is my second time listening to JL Collins. Now I understand his idea about the good international economic and social effects of index fund investments. Companies in the index are stable and investing in such index listed funds stablizes the capital markets, which includes the international capital market. Even after the deepest stock market crash, the stability of the companies on the index list will still continue the capital market stability. So, investments in index funds have social amelioration effects upol all the people in the world. Now JL Collins has started an economic principle that may even worth a Nobel Prize. An economist well versed in capital markets may help draft an economic model with mathematical percision.Much thanks to JC Collins.

Absolutely loved JL Collins’ book. It is an amazing read and definitely gives you immediate confidence to take action. His blog is amazing as well. I was really looking forward to watching this episode of BiggerPockets Money. It delivered as expected. Thanks for getting him on the show guys!

You would be better off working 5 hrs of overtime in your job and investing that into index than spending 5 hrs trying to study/learn to pick stocks

I have 11.2 percent growth and JPC made me 4.12 percent growth. I am a RN and my account manager has a Wharton MBA I fired her 4 days ago. I showed her my results she asked how I learned how to do this... I told her the truth, you tube!

So is he against "tilts" like value, small cap, and/or emerging markets tilts for potentially more volatility and returns?
@TheRosswise6 жыл бұрын
I think he is more about keeping things simple. Just like everyone is an individual, everyone's investing strategy is also different.

Correct. Your assumption that your approach would give you higher returns is not correct in his opinion and in his research. You should read his book.
@ThePartTimeEconomist6 жыл бұрын
I read the book over a year ago, so this may not be perfect. Basically, there are two reasons this could be bad. 1. Specialty type mutual funds that focus on a specific sector/geographic location tend to have higher fees. 2. The more actively managed the fund is, the greater chance that the fund manager can mess things up and pick bad stocks.

Forgive me if someone has already said this, but aren’t you “supporting a company” more effectively by buying its products/services than by buying its stock? Though I’d agree with the idea of buying some individual stocks if your enjoyment of the process exceeded the risk of volatility you’d be undertaking.

Vanguard VTSAX

Unfortunately Vanguard has a 3k minimum to open. I would go with Fidelity. There is no minimum, and like Vanguard, they are reputable. Stay away from the discount brokers, because they are not discounted when it is all said and done. Why and how they get their money, is a whole other topic.

I'm in that very position, I'm currently saving for a house. I'm thinking that it will take 2.5 years for 20% down payment. (I'm in California) I currently have 35k and I just bought 10k in VTSAX and I have 1k in Robinhood, invested over 8 companies. I have 14k in Ally earning 2.20% and I have 10k in Gold and Silver. This made me wan't to pull everything into my Ally bank. Any suggestions if you were me?

This is for the wishful thinking investor at best...it is easy to say when times are good, but when times are bad and that matches with your retirement date like in 09, you are messed up.
@giffy79626 жыл бұрын
There's going to be good times and bad times no matter what, you just need to ride them out. Markets trend upward overtime thats why it averages 7-9% a year. I wish I had a boat load of money for 07-09, would have bought the whole US stock market on discount.
