@SagutoGolf Hi Tom, I am a complete newbie. Just started playing for the last 3 months. I have taken lessons but THIS video alone is worth a million bucks!!! I was focusing on way too many things for my swing and your 1 simple technique just helped me solidify everything together. I watched this vid last night and today, at the driving range, I could not believe I've made contact with my ball 80% of the time. A million thanks for giving me confidence back to my swing. Golf is now fun again!!! Cheers!

I've commented before how much your videos have helped my golf game. So I'm just giving an update. Last year my 9i was my 135 club, now it's 150-155. Every club has stretched out by about 20 yards. And I'm hitting the ball so crisp and straight. I thought maybe it was just at the course I play regularly. But last Sunday I played a course I've only played once before and shot a 78. Tuesday I shot a 74 and last night I played 9 and shot a 38 and my driver is consistently 275-290. I am amazed and appreciative, I have sent multiple people to your channel.

Tom, My buddy took me golfing for the first time in April to a public course while I was going through a tough time. With just a few tips from him, after 25 years of never golfing I fell in love. Your videos have taught me how to swing in a way I can understand and apply. You’ve been the main person helping me on this new hobby. It’s not perfect yet but I’m developing a consistent and uncomplicated swing with your help. My older brother and I golfed for the first time together at his country club which is a relatively hard course and he couldn’t believe how good my swing was for being new and not having lessons. Lots of room for improvement but I was PLAYING the game, getting the ball down the fairway, no frustration, no holding up the group, and a great time on a beautiful day. Thank you so much!!! You’re the man! I’m going to keep watching and improving and will probably be signing up for your website sooner rather than later.

love your vids Tom. Some people have a knack for tapping into the intuition part of our brains. I have been way more consistent watching your tips and really just simplified my swing. Finding an intuitive swing instead of having a tornado of "swing thoughts" in my head makes golf fun. One can get massively lost in the weeds on youtube looking at all kind of "tips" from setup, how to backswing, shallowing the club, how do my hips and feet move, etc. to the point your swing becomes a NASA space launch.... Your tips are a gold mine for intuitive golf. Thanks man! BTW.... take us out on the course for some more course vlogs soon. would like to see some shot for shot stuff from you!

I started stack and tilt in April, aged 56 and having played over 40 years. I expected to maybe have a season of adjustment as this is quite a change. I thought my actual results might inspire people: 1. Lowest handicap 6.8 previous best 9.0. 2. Two holes in 1 - previously none. 3. Three other shots over 50 yards holed. 4. Lowest ever score 67 - 2 under - previous best 68. 5. First ever back to back eagles. And I feel like I am still only a beginner with this, sometimes I have rounds where my low point is spot on every shot but some other rounds my low point control is a bit loose. So thanks Tom!

Yeah - it really is. We can either *_simply_* put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball! Better to find out now than never, right?!

I have fantastic news. After watching this video a couple of times to make sure I actually comprehended everything, I went to my golf club's driving facility and put this swing technique to use. I have never and I mean NEVER hit the ball more solidly and my drives were incredibly straight and I even gained some yardage. I had to constantly focus and force myself to shorten my backswing which became my only swing thought, but when I did my part, everything just fell into place. This video for some reason just resonates with me and it truly works very well. Thanks for the tip. You helped me take a decent swing up at least 2 notches.

I am always skeptical when it comes to "simple" fixes/ miracle cures when it comes to the golf swing. But I will tell you this swing plain and simple works and is extremely easy to become proficient at. I discover this channel last year but wasn't until late last year and this spring before I began to implement the changes in my swing. I used to (in my teens) get away with poor form by simply playing every day and being consistent that way. But now that I have a full time job, a wife, and a daughter I don't get out nearly as much. The beauty of this swing is that it's truly simple to learn and make it muscle memory. Like I said I don't play as much as I used to and my scores were reflecting that. This year has been a different story. With only a few late season range sessions last year, one range session this year, and 27 holes of golf I can say with certainty that for the average golfer this is the channel you should be watching to correct your swing. Everything Tom is saying is true. My ball striking is the best it's been in 10 years or more and I'm hitting the ball farther than ever with less effort. I am swinging the club easy and have gained at least 5 yards on every club. In only 27 holes this year I've already tied by personal best 9 hole score of 37 (with a VERY rusty wedge game and equally rusty putting). My first full 18 holes this year I felt as though I was leaving a lot of strokes out there and at the end of the round the score card definitely looked a lot better than I had expected. In summary for those of you who may be skeptical, give this a try and thank Tom later. With this swing I see some more personal bests coming for sure. I am already playing better than I have in a decade and I'm just getting started perfecting (a relative term in golf haha) and committing this swing to muscle memory. Thank you for making these videos, they have been a huge help. Effective while being as close to effortless as the golf swing can be!

Wow @TomSaguto, what a great video...all of them are really good, but this was the climax video for me, if you will! I have gone through several courses in your online school, read the SnT book, and watched almost every other video you've made...but this one really put it all together for me. I watched it ONE time!...earlier this afternoon, went home to get my sticks before going to my Monday night golf league...while there I incorporated the information I gleaned from the video earlier, making several ball-less swings with 6-iron and Driver (or "D-River). It felt great, compact, and 20 mph faster than my normal swing...so free and relaxed! Later, in a 2-man scramble, I drove the ball better than I have since I can't remember when, hit or was on the fringe of 8 of 9 greens, and hit a couple hybrids and fairway woods like I never have! It was amazing! Thanks again Tom! You're the best! And friends, if you haven't taken Tom's teaching to heart, your missing out!!

I saw Varner III the other day and thought: "Yes! Tom would approve!" I guess I'm gettin' what you're preachin' The good thing is, now I have a model, a system. I don't look at other great players and think "Maybe I should try THAT..." Because I know this model works ... and is easier to master. He's not pure stack and tilt, but ... his swing is much simpler than most: back and forth, right elbow tucked in. Beautiful. Wonderful. Like mashed potatoes and gravy ; )
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, Justin - but what is "pure" Stack & Tilt? The system affords considerable leeway. Consider Charlie Wi, Mike Bennett, and Grant Waite, for example. Three different swings, all well within the realm of S&T! Yes - I love Harold's very simple yet very consistent and powerful move! Much to be garnered from that. TS

LISTEN TO THIS GUY!!!! JUST FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS! This is pure gold. This is what every beginner golfer should be taught. I have only 1 y. experience in golf and discovered this "dead arms" move on my own, a few months ago, it was such a game-changer, then found these vids... A few days ago my friend came to a range for the very first time, he had a scheduled lesson, but the coach got sick, and the lesson was canceled. I was there and so he won't waste time and give up I showed him this idea. And imagine this... 47 y.o. guy hits 150 meters with 7 iron like 7 out of 10 shots. After an HOUR of practicing. Yeah, these bad 3 are fats or tops, coz he forgets and tries to sway. But it was really 1 hour of practicing. I think that coaches and pros do not teach this so that they can charge you for lessons again and again.

At the end of my backswing I already have that feeling that it's going to be an absolute bomb, and it is 9/10. My pro, however, wants me to perform the dance, hip back shoulder down, pelvis pop. I'm way too rigid in my anatomy for that. Simple is the way to go.

I really appreciate your goal of keeping things simple. I hate getting to the ball and having 7 things in my head that I'm trying to juggle.

Golf is indeed a very difficult sport, Chris, but if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ballstriking bliss for the rest of our lives! To this end, here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/ Thanks! Very good. So many golf videos and teachers focus on all the moving parts. Where should the right elbow be, and the hip, and so on. If it is to be repeatable, it needs to be comfortable and relaxed, and you get right to the heart of that. I have one other thing I add to what you did, and that is a drill I have used for years to perfect balance. put both feet together, and hit the ball. If you are in balance, you can do it, and the will fly a reasonable distance, perhaps 80% of normal. If you are out of balance, you fall over.

I love the comparison videos with you, Hogan and Varner and how you show 5 iron and driver. The only thing I would add is a point you have made in several other videos about lowering your lead shoulder on every backswing. I find that when I lower my lead shoulder on every swing (like Jess Frank describes as "down and in and under the chin"), that my downswing almost naturally returns along the path I make in the backswing.

Glad you enjoyed it, Ray! I can't speak to everything in every episode LOL, though it is quite apparent that the lead shoulder is working down in all the featured swings here. Thanks for your observations and keep up the great work!! TS

This may be the best swing lesson I've ever seen. Just like bowling - my other favorite sport - SIMPLER is better. I'm coming back to golf after almost 30 years of absence, and I can't count how many times I've seen some variation on "You have to rotate every single part of your body to an inhuman degree in order to swing properly." Like you said, it's just too many moving parts. This simple, no-frills approach appeals to me as a beginner, because it's easy to drill and easy to execute. Can't thank you enough!

I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you!! Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball! Welcome back to this great game!! To get on the fast track perhaps you might consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), advanced level courses on shot shaping and power/distance, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more there. Excellent video Tom. Well explained the path of the club. For me the forward weight was a real game changer. All other aspects of the back and forward swing was a improvement from my natural swing, but the biggest impact on improving came from the forward weight. We not the same and for some works what you preaching for other work less. In one word, since I'm using your lessons, my game improved from steady average 95 plus to 85 and lower. I'm 67 and this year I got 3 birdies in one game and one week before my first eagle in my life. Cheers and a big thank you from Ontario, Canada.

I started trying this swing the last couple of weeks after getting tired of inconsistent iron play. It has been an incredible help in hitting the ball cleaner and more consistent. I just have less going on now. One of the keys to me is not rushing the swing so I have good tempo. The other thing is being more concerned with good contact and not trying to hit hard. Now, my swing probably doesn't look like the video, but the results have been great.

Tom, Thank you! Your teaching is producing results for me. This video of the lead knee movement of Varner & Hogan however, shows the left knee going away from the target instead of down like your other demonstration.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
While that wasn't really the focus of this video, Bill, this system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. TS PS: Great to see HV3 notch a victory this weekend!!

The One plane swing is the key to most players playing this game well- without back injuries. Jim Hardy has written a short book describing it well- the Plane Truth- that was very helpful. Carol Mann - an LPGA Hof Famer- taught it to me several years ago and it’s made all the difference. Keep teaching it. My one swing thought? “Turn, turn.” It really is that simple. Turn your shoulder to the ball, then turn back. Keep your head and butt still so that your rotation is around your spine and smile while your ball explodes off the club face. Now that’s living!

Tom i wanna say you've been super helpful teaching me how the swing the right way in golf as a new golfer. I literally just finished my first month of golf ever at 27. Consistency is still the name of the game in terms of hitting every club well but taking some of your tips to the range and course has produced some amazing shots and makes me keep going. The big one i tried today was using mainly my right arm for the swing of the irons. I was getting them higher and farther like they should go and felt i like was really pounding the ball as hard as i could. Hit a nice 5 iron probably about 170+ with a little draw. Thank you for all the tips and hopefully with time the strokes will come down!

LOL!! Nicely done, Brian!! In order to keep yourself out of trouble perhaps you may wish to build a net like mine? It is approximately 7’ tall and 8’ wide. We used this video as a starting point - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6GUYqSpaaplipI - and then made some other minor PVC support structure modifications to suit our needs. We did not use PVC cement as this allows us to easily disassemble it if necessary. The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.) Also, I have a Real Feel 3x5 Country Club Elite® Golf Mat. Good video Tom! I've been a fan of your teaching since discovering your channel early last winter. Simplistic brilliance. Living in Wisconsin, I had to wait out a long winter to put your method to the test. While undertaking a change requires repetition to unseat ingrained "muscle memory" methodology, your method is so ridiculously simple that task is easily overcome. Yes, my old swing occasionally rears it's ugly head, but I can think my way past it, and get back on track. This is your best lesson to date! You lay it all out in simple terms. Keep it up, mate!

Glad you enjoyed it, Richard! I sincerely appreciate your comment, and I am happy to know that my channel's instruction has benefited your game to such an extent. You've obviously done an excellent job digesting the lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it!! (And yes - we all have to beat down those stubborn "ghosts of swings past" every now and then....😎) Thanks for sharing your success, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!! Cheers, Tom

Good stuff, I’m also seeing the lead shoulder under the chin to finish the backswing
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, Bob - the lead shoulder under the chin is an indication that we have maintained our relationship with the ball and have tilted, turned, and extended properly during the backswing. Glad you enjoyed it! TS

I’m French and I love the easy way you teach "the golf swing" !!! After all those years I’m playing I try to change my swing to become a "Saguto player" 😂😂😂 Just one thing: you speak too quickly for the old Frenchman I am 😂😂😂 I would love to join your lessons but I’m afraid to not understand well… Anyway thank you for all your videos.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Robert, and I am very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! In case you are not aware, you can manually adjust the playback speed of any YT video by clicking on the settings button at the lower right side of the video player. So if I am going too fast for you in a particular video, try slowing it down to .75 speed. Thanks again for your message and support, and keep up the great work! Tom PS: If you have not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you will find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. hi Tom, i believe you did a video where you said to feel like you're holding a cup of soup at the top of the backswing (waiter position), then hold that position during the downswing and serve the soup by placing it on the table, it feels like there's no moving parts during the downswing except for torso rotation, it was from a few years ago so my memory may be a little fuzzy but I'm not kidding about hitting a lot of flag sticks, thanks!

Yeah - I think I may have been demonstrating with a range basket, Peter, but that was the concept. Anyway. I'm glad to know that you continue to reap such great benefits from that lesson. Keep on knocking down those pins!! Tom

Month ago, My first comment to your golf instructions was in total destroying your competence in golf. Normal golfing People had to do movements they never can repeat and which bringing their game to a Desaster. Today i have to tell you : yoz did the important first step to understand how a good golf swing works! Well done, that's a excellent video! If ypz now start learning how indifferent golfers are in real life, with long legs, short legs, deep center of bodyweight, high center on tge other side, small or large hands - than at the end you will have a perfect fundament for teaching and showing people the way for successful and simple golf! A 190cm player stands nor at the ball as a 170cm does - but he can stand relaxed and ready for body movement at the ball like tiger, dj or faldo did in tge past. And the rest is ad simple ad you declaring here in this video! Again : well done! And please continue this way!

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, Michael! To be clear, I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because I do recognize that we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while providing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. From someone who spends too much time tinkering with his golf swing: This is a great lesson ! Thank you! One question, how do you start you downswing . . . what is your swing thought?
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks - I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you!! My own personal "feels" are not relevant to you because they are unique to me. 😎 Beyond that, they do change quite regularly as I'm always thinking about new possibilities for my lesson content. This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. Went to the range and hit a bucket to try the advice in this video and was really astonished with the results; it really allows me to focus on the low point of the swing and solid contact! I struggle with thin iron shots constantly…maybe a good topic to cover? Subscribed!
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Thin (and fat) shots are oftentimes the result of a low point that drifts backwards at some point in the motion, Terry. When executed properly this is a very centered action that enables us to strike the ground in the same spot every time - the first true fundamental of the golf swing. There's an entire section of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. @SagutoGolf I’ve had a rough start to the season and this advice is helping me get back on track so thank you! Was a subscriber of your school years ago and highly recommend it! One thing thats always confused me though is how to work the ball as you show on the range. Is this merely done through set up changes with the feet and club face or doing something different with the hands and path?
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the online school shoutout, Mike, and I hope to see you back in it again soon. I think you'll be impressed with the new platform, format, and content that just recently rolled out! The answer to your question lies in ball flight laws. Clubface angle relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line, and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. With a few minor setup adjustments we can work the ball either way without changing our feel for the swing motion. For example, here is a brief shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending the Stack & Tilt Instructor Camp together in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5TQfKucgd9se68 Embrace the challenge and get that swing back on track!! Tom

Tom I have really enjoyed your videos and they are simple and pure! No like hundreds of other videos! Here is what I’m struggling with on the course, uphill and downhill lies? Thin, fat, skull, chilli-dip…you name it and it happens! How to KFC those shots???? Kevin
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my channel's content!! The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, and 5) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results. By the way, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level courses on shot shaping, power and distance, and much more.
