Absolutely improved my game, Tom is a real teacher, so refreshing to get real focus on real issues for the average 16 handicapper like myself, all these other so called you tube golfers are interested in is telling you what the most forgiving clubs are, the best ball for high handicappers, all self indulgent crap in my opinion, but Tom actually gets to the point of why people like me watch you tube, hats of to you Tom, you have really helped my game, can't thank you enough 👍👍👍👍

"Left palm down" is the single golf epiphany I've been missing for over 30 years! Literally that 1 move fixed my game. I keep my left wrist flat in my backswing (opposite of what I used to do) then on the way back down I'll push my palm down just a little more ensuring the club face is closed. Arms down with a decent swing plane and the results are amazing. Thank you Saguto!!!

I came upon this tip on my own a few years ago. It took a long time to master, after cupping my wrist for 50 years. But it really works, especially on short irons. One thing I did was to EXAGGERATE really bowing the wrist back, to train it. When you do it correctly, your consistency improves dramatically. It takes time and practice, so be patient and it will happen.
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Nice job overcoming that cupping issues. Yes - I regularly preach on the difference between "feel vs. real", but oftentimes an exaggerated feel is our best appeal to seal the deal!...😆 Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Tom

WOW, what a difference this made. Shot low 90"s after learning this tip, instead of low 100's. Still had my usual couple blow up holes, but this helped tremendously. 68% fairways. Not one back yard, :) For me, game changer. Thanks again.

Bloody hell Tom. Tried palm down today and hit fabulous (for me) shots I have never done before -once I had found a sufficiently consistent rhythm. I am 77 years of age and have been steadily hitting indifferent shots of reducing length. What I like about the feeling is that, having today practiced some four hundred shots with a variety of clubs in my bag, my left wrist apparently remains solid right through the downswing, the hitting area and the follow through. Apparently for the first time I fairly naturally swing my clubs, particularly my irons, rather than just hit at the ball. Can’t wait to try this, over coming months, and seek to return to my former golfing glories. My only major concern is that the natural rotational stresses seem to put fairly big loads on my left knee - but for sure I intend to seek to perfect your palm down approach along side further strengthening of my knees. Thank you very much for your excellent explanation which hopefully will put me back on track enjoying my golf. Prof Richard Weston, Rothley Park Golf Club Leicestershire.
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Great job incorporating this lesson into your swing so quickly and effectively, Richard!! With regard to the lead knee, having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. By the way, it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. So many folks across the globe - including several in the UK - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. My pleasure, Joe - I'm glad to know that this video resonated well with you! Others are only partially right about that open face causing a slice. Open to what? For example, a face that is open to the target line and closed to an in-to-out downswing path will produce a push-draw that curves back to the target. Thanks for your comment!! Tom

I’m 5’10 240 bench 315. I have hit a straight drive about 5 times in my entire life and when I tell you it goes 330 I’m not lying. I’m usually about 255 260 off the tee but I have a friggin slice that I’m telling you will curve anywhere from 50 to 100 yards. I have the memory of a goldfish so I couldn’t remember what I did at the range until I came across this channel. But at the range 3/4 swings I was hitting driver 280-300 every single time with a normal height in flight. I’ve went from a 95-100 stroke golfer to low 80s just from the idea of weight in the swing. You’re awesome

I practiced this on the Friday and again today and as you said - it is fun actually being able to put the ball to where one is aiming! Just when I thought I was getting to old for the game with not hitting my intended target, here I was aiming over obstacles such as over trees over bunkers and having a huge smile on my face seeing the outcome!! I can't thank you enough Tom, in saying that - I have not taken my new swing onto the golf course yet! We have gusts of wind here in Scotland . I walked our course today and noticed all the twigs and debris on most greens that were near tree's! More gusts of wind and snow forecasted for Sunday, so one will need to be patient to get back onto the course! Thank you sooooooo much Tom!!!!!!!

I had a lesson just yesterday as I have been push slicing all my clubs (I thought I had a conventional slice at first). Turns out I was pretty neutral out to in (2 degrees), club path was also on line (1 Degree), lead hand flat at top but then my lead hand was cupped and above my trail just before impact (Club face left open 7-10 degrees) My instructor gave me this very same drill to bow my lead hand slightly in the transition and I started to see some nice little draws with my PW. Just a reminder that lots of things could be causing your slice and everyone needs a drill tailored to them to fix their specific issue. Thanks Tom for your videos, I've finally found the drill for me and my swing and it feels good!

This worked well for me today with my irons and hybrids. Driver was not as consistent as I was having trouble getting my weight back to my front foot.
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
The key is to not let your weight leave the front foot in the first place! It’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZfQpa2vfZilqaM. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX3NqIiVZqiWbdE If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. So, you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing, delaying their release until after impact. This enables the golfer to "clear" while keeping the club moving on the proper in-to-out path. There's no shifting back and forth, and the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. Awesome job with the irons!! With regard to the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, @Jf Vezina! I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. I'm glad this lesson performed well for you, David - nice job incorporating it into your swing! Once you have the downswing working properly and approaching from the inside, ball flight rules - aka shot shaping - are a function of clubface as it relates to path and target line. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. Here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending the Stack & Tilt Instructor Camp together in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5TQfKucgd9se68 If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? You see most golf professionals on tour doing it this way. About 40 years ago when I was trying to be a professional golfer my instructor was one of the best in the country he just happen to the head pro at a local course outside Seattle. He tried playing on the PGA tour but he got injured and can no longer do it but he did play a few tournaments on the senior tour before unfortunate he got cancer and took his life I only mention this because, one of his number one thing for me to do was to keep my left wrist cupped at the top. That's how he did it and that's how I did it very well until I also got injured but obviously the flat wrist method is obviously the way to go for consistency

This really resonated with me. It made me remember something from an instructor decades ago about having the right hand at the top of the swing in the 'platter position'; as if you were carrying a platter on your right hand. This flattens the left wrist which I now realize I haven't been doing. What would your view be of just flattening the left wrist at address and then maintaining that posture throughout the swing? It reminds me a bit of a Moe Norman video I saw where he had his club head behind the ball a bit.
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad this lesson connected with you. Yes - that platter condition of the trail hand at the top is a helpful image for sure. One component of the stock setup for this swing system is having the hands forward - even with the inside of the lead thigh - with the ball position typically behind them. This "hands forward/ball back" address position tends to encourage a flatter lead wrist, similar to what you are saying. Another way to go about it is Rahm style, which I talk about in this episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHi8hoqGpryHaNU Cheers! TS

Tom, at setup I have tried raising the handle a little or flexion. Helps in hitting better drives and iron shots doing this at setup that way its set at top of swing. Is this something you would recommend?
@SagutoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff - Whether you know it or not, the height of the handle at address is a component of the Stack & Tilt shot shaping system (plenty of detailed instruction on this is included in my online school). A raised handle is a feature of the setup that promotes a push-draw, while a lower handle can be deployed to shape a pull-fade ball flight. As for whether I recommend this for you, what I regularly tell golfers with regard to their individual nuances is to let their ball striking and shot shape be their guide. Keep up the great work and have fun out there! TS

Thanks for this, I’ve been hitting my irons straighter than ever and playing my best golf. But I struggle implementing this with my woods as my club face is deporting the club a little too much. Any advice for this? Would it be bad to weaken my grip a little bit to get more loft?
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Aaron! I would begin with checking grip and ball position prior to getting into any swing intervention. Having said that, oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Here is a recent lesson on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2a7ipqBpNWHmJY Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) I hope that helps! Tom

This is the REAL DEAL. I was just on a golfing trip with some buddies… I played like absolute dog sh%#… and lost some money in the process. I do not play a lot of golf. Maybe a round or two per year…. But I used to be able to hit my irons straight… I somehow developed the problem of hitting my irons directly to the right… like a 45 degree angle or worse. I’m competitive and it was extremely frustrating to say the least. I fished around on KZbin for some hopeful advice… BAM. Found it. The exact problem I had with a solution on how to fix it. I tried this tip at the range today for the first time, pausing at the top of my backswing, and correcting my palm. I would then swing and boom, straight. I hit 83 balls and only 6 went to the right like before. I haven’t implemented a full swing without the pause, but i was just enjoying hitting the ball STRAIGHT. I’ll keep working until it’s muscle memory. thank you sir! Never thought it would be that easy.

My irons were great but my driver I would loose to the left, I’m left handed. A guy I didn’t know was watching and told me to flatten my wrist and I started hitting beautiful draws with tons of power. Now I see Saguto saying the same thing. What a coincidence Love Saguto Genius and makes the game much more rewarding I’m a 10 about to be a 5.

Algorithm is at it again 😂😂 just looked at a bunch of recorded videos on my phone of my swing, and every single one has my right palm up (lefty golfer). Currently on my way to the range with a tripod and my phone to work on this. Truly thankful for your videos, I’ve unfortunately been stuck at +25 for the last few months, and I feel like I watch too many videos from different instructors to fix things.. but I’ve decided to strictly stick to your content, and hope to report back with improved scores.

Gotta love the Algorithm.... 😆😆 I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content is resonating well with you and providing clarity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. With regard to watching different videos from different sources, please be careful. Thanks John - I'm glad you enjoyed it! The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball!
