Me and my son recently beat this game at an arcade in San Antonio. It took about an hour, and our hands were worn out from the button mashing. $6 in quarters at 25 cents a play got us through it. I would recommend a play through if you ever get the chance. This game would print money if they re-released it on modern consoles, especially the Switch.

The game actually wasn't ported due to the fact that Akklaim had the exclusive rights to make Simpsons games on consoles.

I'm sure akklaim would have been more than happy to publish this on the SNES for Konami. Konami probably just didn't want to work with a trash publisher.

Well there's also the idea that it was a coin-cruncher that could not be easily ported to home consoles, like that X-Men arcade game never got a home port, although that Turtles arcade game did pretty good w/ home ports...

I played through with a friend on his computer and it was disappointing to just see everything. Back in the 80's / 90's: Arcade machines had magic based on most kids not being able to see most of it. So it always seems mysterious and unknown.

Bucky O'Hare, Sunset Riders, The Cowboys of Moo Mesa, TMNT, TMNT TiT, and The Simpsons (I might be forgetting one) all had three things in common. Well, the third is just my opinion. 1) They all used the same engine 2) The cabinets' frame, wiring, and monitors were identical. 3) They ate more quarters than Pac-Man ate dots. As for TMNT TiT, a lot of arcade owners, just bought the kit to update the original game instead of purchasing a whole new machine because it was not only cheaper, but the wire connections were identical. This was true for all the Konami 4-Player games. This method of getting new games in arcades was extremely popular back in the 80s and early 90s

There's an arcade in Madison Wisconsin that has this game. Free to play all games, you just pay an entry fee. My wife and a friend played this. I calculated how many quarters we would have needed to beat the game, and it was close to $70... I seriously think the game was designed to just eat coins

My wife and I had a similar experience at an arcade locally as well. We were floored. But, it was the design.

You would have pumped 280 quarters by yourself into the game? Did you play blindfolded? It's a quarter muncher but 280 sounds way excessive.

I enjoyed learning more about this after so many years. Thanks! The “ninja master” is a kabuki theater actor, in keeping with the level’s studio set theme. Looks like fandom calls him the Kabuki Master.

Always found that level kind of amusing because Captain Commando had a similar Japanese themed level where the boss was a ninja with a Kabuki actor outfit who wields a naginata and occasionally summoned ninjas to assist him... Both games came out the same year too, so either some devs at Capcom and Konami were buddies or they both got inspired by another work lol

It depends on the arcade what you get for each coin you put in. Generous ones give you four lives, while the profit-oriented others calibrate settings to only two lives. I’m not sure if the difficulty level was adjustable, but obviously there are more enemies if there are more players. My sister and I had the luck of seeing the ending when the kids prior ran out of money during the Smithers stage. We were certainly surprised he wasn’t the final boss, and while Mr. Burns was a tough bastard, we spent a number of coins to finish the game, and we’re glad we did.

Oh I remember playing that in an arcade in the late 90's. Was a great game... And to be honest it is the only reason (besides the Scott Pilgrim game) that I still own an Xbox 360. Just playing this from time to time is so much fun.

There are two tragedies that I will never recover from the fact that by the time videogames were able to be really good, anime had stopped being and the fact that this game was made before 99% of simpsons characters had been revealed, established, or finalized. And they never did a followup. TMNT's arcade game got a followup, and it even had guys from the movies. (and uh, speaking of TMNT arcade games, that was uh.. that was footage from the NES port of the arcade game) (and while i'm correcting you, that's not a ninja, he's a kabuki lion. but I guess since he has ninja minions, he is a 'ninja master' in the sense of being... a master of ninja) (Oh I see someone already commented that. well now I'm the fool.)

I played the crap out of this game back when we still had an arcade with decent games. Homer was my man and by spamming his special attack on everything that moved, I could beat the game on one quarter, provided I played alone. I never beat it in more than one cycle, though. You retained your most recent amount of lives once the game restarted, so if you had none left and they got depleted, it was game over.
