I don't know. Lisa definitely has a better deal in some ways- not least because she isn't being physically abused like Bart- but if anything she's the one who gets neglected. Throughout the series there are countless examples of Homer and Bart going off on some adventure and leaving Lisa behind, and much fewer examples of Lisa going off on adventures with either parent. In fact, I'd argue that her constant need to be the best student at school might be because it's the one area where she stands a chance at overshadowing her brother.

According to this episode, otherwise, that's not really how it'd been at all. It depends on the era of the show
@user-wz7kq2iy5e Жыл бұрын
@@Joe_Parmesan If we ignore the fact it’s comedy cartoon and ignore the spin-off episodes, his neglect is actually very consistent. He gets abused over minor things, he’s constantly overshadowed and he only gets attention when he acts out… his whole character is based upon the archetype of a mostly good kid acting out for attention and rebelling against what he (in this case rightfully) considers bad parenting. That’s why he’s never really bad to Marge; she actually tries to be a good mother even if she also tends to forget, or not pay attention to him.
@Joe_Parmesan Жыл бұрын
@@user-wz7kq2iy5e those are good points. Overall, I was mainly used to Homer and Lisa having obscure connections, since he didn't really know much about her interests. Marge didn't really either, but she and Lisa spent a fair amount of time together. With Bart, he's often Homer's sidekick in his schemes. Not all of the time, and Homer doesn't really connect to Bart outside of that (and, like you mentioned, Homer physically abuses him), but it's fairly often. It’s not that she is favoured it’s more like she is a cuckoo bird a brood parasite who by nature feels a constant need to be acknowledged. I always felt for Bart growing up with the show, being that my sister is 2 years younger than me and always got the best parenting from our parents possible where as I was always second fiddle. I always got hand-me-downs, she got everything she wanted, I was rarely raised for doing good, she was praised for doing everything, she fails at something and they were always supportive and kind to her, where as I was belittled and yelled at, my sister was given every chance and support to succeed from my mother in every single aspect of her life and gave her all the help where as towards me she just demanded I succeed without any aid. Nowadays as adults, my mother and sister tag team against me with their gaslighting attitudes and refuse to ever see my side of things and how terrible of a parent my mother had always been to me even now. I hate Lisa in the show, always have, not only because she reminds me of my sister but because Lisa has done more harm to Bart in the show's life and Bart had ever done to her and she always revels in being the better sibling.

The reason why Bart is acting like a jerk to Lisa is because he was neglected, because of Lisa’s gifts and overloaded attention. He wants the spotlight, so he acts like this to get the same amount of attention as Lisa. In episodes, Homer and Marge would always be praising Lisa on her accomplishments that very few can do and then when it comes to Bart, all they can do is give him a pat on the back for existing and just say “we love him”, with no other compliments. In the pilot, Marge was writing Christmas letters to all of her family and friends. In the letter she states, “Maggie learned how to walk, Lisa got straight A’s, and Bart- well, we love Bart…” This is just straight-up neglection.

Technically he’s 12 just for this episode as it showing Bart’s entire childhood and some of Bart’s adulthood and how Homer, Marge and Lisa attitude and behaviour towards Bart effected/impacted him. All other episodes he’s ten years old it’s even been stated in a few episodes by Bart and some of the other characters

In my opinion, part of the reason Homer and Marge are so neglectful towards Bart is because he was conceived outside of wedlock. They weren't ready to become parents yet, but they took up the responsibility of giving Bart a stable family situation. Lisa and Maggie were both unexpected pregnancies, but the situation was different for them than it was for Bart. They shower Lisa with so much attention because she showed a level of intelligence that was nurtured in a Simpson way. Bart is more creative in his intelligence. It's how he was able to pull off so many elaborate pranks. He actually gets that creativeness from Homer, who could have become an award winning songwriter with massive royalties come in so that the family wouldn't be on their 6th or 7th mortgage. Homer and Marge focused so much on giving Lisa every opportunity that they subconsciously already put Bart on the side burner and failed to recognize that he can achieve just as much as Lisa, just in a different field.

Remember that Episode where Bart started playing drums, and he was getting somewhere in Jazz. But then Lisa started feeling bad because she thought she was the musician, so she got depressed. Marge told Bart that music means a ton to Lisa so told him step down. While watching The Simpsons I notice how many times Bart is shown to have great talent but always was ignore or had to give it up because Lisa couldn’t handle being ignored. We see Bart always giving up his bit of recognition for Lisa to be happy, and rarely does Lisa do the same for Bart. In fact Lisa’s ego tends to get more bloated and she has become even worse in the newer seasons.

Barts always shown signs of being gifted and thrived when he was given the support he needed like when he needed glasses, took medication for ADHD or when he was a drumming prodigy. When the special attention moves away from lisa you almost always see her react in a way that forces bart to suppress that side of himself.
