Fun Fact: Flander’s last image was of an actual one-page picture book (one page for the image, the other for the dialect). The story sums up to how an ant works hard to prepare for winter while a grasshopper does nothing and pretty much just lives in the moment only to regret it later.

I may be forgetting some religion facts, but since Flanders refers to his emergency food as “Rapture Rations” implies he thinks his whole family (himself included) aren’t good enough to be taken to heaven when Rapture comes; or at least he has the doubt to think that way. Which is interesting considering he and his family are probably one of the most religious people in the show.

It's possible that Flanders is a mid- or post-tribulationist (meaning that he believes that the rapture will occur either part of the way through the tribulation or at the end of the tribulation, respectively). It might make sense for him then to refer to his supplies as "tribulation supplies," but I guess that's not as catchy-sounding, and "the rapture" is much better known than "the tribulation," so the joke is more accessible this way. (I'm also not some sort of encyclopedia of Ned Flanders, so maybe he's expressed somewhere else specifically what his views on where during the tribulation the rapture will occur.)

The original interpretation of the Bible is that believers will be brought up to heaven after the tribulation period ends. The idea that it goes believers up to heaven, then tribulation, then the wicked going to hell is a Quaker invention, though it seems to be the more popular interpretation in modern times, probably because it's an easier sell at church.

Isn't a lot of the Tribulations the suffering and persecution of Christians as the nations of the world kind of go to hell? Who are they persecuting if the Christians are gone? As much Harry Shearer is 80 years old,he still sounds good as Ned Flanders,even better than Marge's voice nowadays. I kinda like the part where Homer is laughing like a maniac burning the caterpillars and Ned actually stands up to Homer given how he's stolen and borrowed his food without asking in the past(The Flanders Market is Closed To You,Mr. Grasshopper). The tale tells of two insect an ant and a grasshopper. One summer, the ant spent the season preparing for winter by gathering food and supplies, while the grasshopper spent the summer singing, dancing, living like he didn’t have a care or worry in the world. Then finally winter came, and the grasshopper was in a situation where he had no food, no water, and no necessities whatsoever (because he spent his time goofing off). The grasshopper went to the ant and begged for some his supplies. The ant decline the grasshopper’s request, and told him that, if he hadn’t been too lazy all the warm seasons, he wouldn’t be in that predicament, and slams the door in the grasshopper face. From there grasshopper starved. It’s appropriate that they made Ned the ant because he’s alway prepared for anything, and Homer the grasshopper because he’s just plain careless and lazy.
