Yeah, maintaining family friends is such a chore in this game. You have to do so much to get the points to build the skills on top of making and keeping friends. It's so annoying. It got easier and harder as the installments came along because with Hot date, you could easily make a friend by going downtown and eating dinner with them. But maintaining became harder because if you wanted to call a Sim just to talk, they more often than not just tell you that you're annoying.

for friends to stay around a bit, i used to just buy a bazillion diamond rings Downtown and gift them. The downside is that they love you, but this is useful as it takes longer for the relationship to run down

My favorite way to make friends was using the Smiley Face and Friendship boost spells from the Makin Magic expansion. Throw a party at your house, have plenty of spells to use. By the end, you had 10+ friends over 90 overall.

Sims 1 was a JOB itself lmao.. Trying to make friens with adult sims was so incredibly difficult so the best way was to go on vacation and befriend all of the children because it was so easy

I found this game in my attic during the height of lockdown after thinking I'd sold it years ago and went all in after almost 20 years. If you want get the most out of it, do it the old school way - no cheats, no shortcuts and minimal speeding up of time. Just discipline and patience. Every house I built started off as a one-bedroom bungalow - used the cheapest materials and only added the essentials. Chipped away and slowly upgraded and expanded as my Sims moved up the career track. Ended up with a fucking palace each and every time. After Level 8-9 you can leave them to their own devices and move on to the next one, they become well-oiled machines. About a week in, I was back up in my attic and found of all things the strategy guide AND as a real bonus the add-ons (Vacation, Hot Date, Magic, Livin' It Up) which took it to a whole other level. These aren't essential but they added to the fun 1 hour a day for 3 months and the result: A utopia full of overachieving freaks in every profession you can think of. Military generals, Astronauts, Mad scientists, criminals, cult leaders, psychics, celebrities, politicians, pro-athletes....you name it. All started on a level playing field....I've since burnt it to the ground but eyeing a return at some point down the road. Gonna see if I can outdo myself the next time. The point is....that's how Sims is supposed to be played and honestly if done so, it is the ultimate brain hack...it forces you to stay on top of things, use critical thinking and improve your mental state.

build you own restaurant. have the kitchen far, far away.. even build i literal cat maze for the wait to walk through. you and your date a forced in conversation in between servings, they can't escape even if they need to pee etc.... if you have enough in common, guaranteed friendship after the meal.

I remember being able to keep 4 people pretty high in the green feeling chart without it being an issue. Watching this makes me cringe at how often the sim is in the red. Otherwise, I did learn a few things that I will try the next few times I play the sims.

As I wrote in the video info, I really just gave up on maintaining friends after a while - its just too tedious, and sucks the fun out of the game for me. So on a community lot I placed a hacked object called the friend phone or something, and I used another family to take Naomi on dates there - in which I used the hacked phone which made her best friends with everyone on the lot.
