As soon as they said the sims 5 will be "multiplayer" I got immensely bad vibes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a "must be online at all times" game either. Which would frankly ruin it for me. The good news is that its such early days, if the sims community makes enough of a fuss there is a chance it could be saved

Your last sentence makes me laugh. The sims community makes a fuss daily on things STILL not fixed in TS4. To think that EA is listening to their player base is low key funny. As long as they can hype you up to get that presale coin they don’t care if you end up liking it or not because they already have gotten your money. EA does not care about their players.

I feel like TS5 will be SO very focused on trying to attract new audiences, rather than satisfying what the existing core audience is asking for, and I think that none of these two audiences will be fully happy with the game and loyal to the game at the end. And I am afraid it will kill The Sims.

I feel like one thing they can learn is they will not be stagnant in profits if they give players what they want. Like the whole world was asking for Generations, and when Growing Together came out it was the biggest hype I have ever seen for a pack. I hoped so much they would learn from TS4 and give us a great TS5 that we would want to throw the money on them for 🫠

yes, exactly my vibes too. they will focus too much on new players, the current community and player base will be disappointed, and the very young audience they want to gain and get money from will probably find it too detailed and maybe boring even. Sims 4 already lacks much of the charm and character which makes the franchise what it is. adding ads for paid content, in game currency and micro transactions WILL kill the sims. i'm afraid but i'm kinda certain of it, at this point in time.

it breaks my heart because its totally gonna be the end of the series. I have LOVED this series for ages and ages. I remember watching Sims 2 sad stories (i swear they had an official name in the community!) and lets plays when I was too young to know the controls, I remember playing Sims 3 on my friend's desktop in her garage after school so her mom couldn't hear us argue over the color wheel, I remember begging my mom for The Sims 3 and using target gift cards to get the packs when they were still disks. The Sims is a SANDBOX GAME. Multiplayer isn't the future, and it clearly isn't what simmers want. Hyper-realism isn't what simmers want. Extreme microtransactions worse than The Sims 3 store isn't what players want. Nobody wants their game dumbed down to work on somebody's phone. The Sims 5 seems like it will literally be the worst iteration of the series, and it seems like it'll completely kill it until another dev buys off the title and makes a reboot.

If I wanted to play Movie Star Planet or Animal Jam as a Sim-type game, I would. There are no expectations for those games to be anything more than what they are, really. But this is the *Sims* for God’s sake. That comes with expectations of fun and dynamic gameplay, of huge additions of *working* content being released that enhance that gameplay. With this extreme cash-grabby model, gameplay will be completely peripheral to the monetized clothes, accessories, and minor gameplay features. The game developers specifically narrowed down their desired core audience to adult Japanese men, but now it is especially popular among Japanese women and western men - so the exact opposite of what they planned. But the fanbase is now many times bigger than they anticipated. What their decision did was give them the opportunity to really focus on what the game is supposed to be, narrow it down and then make it *really* good down to the details. EA on the other hand tries so damn hard to please EVERYONE that it doesn't really fully please anyone, because they've lost their identity. There is no attention to detail anymore, just a neverending stream of more and more unnecessary stuff in hopes that something sticks. Making it playable on mobiles is proof of that. But by trying to widen their audience so extremely, I feel that they are actually limiting it at this point, because it doesn't really speak to anyone. There's no soul behind it. I know I won't buy it.

To be fair, it is most likely EA pulling all the big strings behind the scenes. They have shown time and time again how greedy they can be. The Sims 2 was the best sims, all the effort that went into it is tangible. The little animations like the pizza car etc, the custom content, the stories etc. It was just unbeatable. The sims 3 and 4 should've just been the sims 2 with new objects, additional building tools (that you can even access in the sims 2 with cheats!), and updated gfx. New expansions etc. Sims 4 was rubbish from the start, it's gotten better over time but it's lost soooooo much of what made sims 2 magic for me.

lol i feel like sims 4 is lowkey the reason why its acceptable in the gaming industry to release unfinished buggy garbage not even finished garbage to the world. battle passes and microtransaction marketplaces are also the plague. i hope more people especially those who have paid heaps on the games speak out or boycott future packs. modding should be free, any game released that isn't a demo should be complete. i dont hate whales but id rather whales be treated nice AND basegame players have a decent experience if theres a paid content aspect. like skullgirls, i bought the game and i can play all the 2e characters and their stories, fight other players etc etc. DLC is entirely new characters that are finished and polished, with their own story and pallettes and ingame voicelines, voicepacks and i think some extra skins. but on its own is a complete experience, ive never felt the need to buy a dlc to make the game function better/feel complete, only that i think the character is cool. even in the mobile game, you only pay for like gacha and currency, but its easy to grind and is enjoyable and complete as a f2p. the devs treat the players well, by showing us progress reports, bug fixes, good updates etc. and so i have zero issue giving them my money. even FNAF security breach redeemed itself by making a really cool free DLC when the base game is horrible, showing they listened to the fans and put their effort into more engaging gameplay, using unused content and scary atmosphere. even when the basegame is broken you can tell they really tried and put love and care into the map and other details. ffs i was more impressed with sonic boom than the sims 4, they never truly fixed the game or did much more with the boom franchise but i know if nintendo and sega didn't screw over the development team it would've been awesome, and hey the game was at least finished too. even yandere dev doesn't charge people whenever he finally finished that one game mode or adds a new feature/rival/dumb easter egg. i don't like the direction microsoft is taking minecraft, but you don't pay 20 bucks for every new update and feature, and some of the updates have been phenomenal and giant like the caves and cliff, village and pillage, nether updates etc. when there is an event/update in honkai impact, i'm free to play it, i don't have to pay to be in a cute cafe for a bit or to access my base or play a different mode, the grind is awful like any mhy game but i don't have to pay, and old items come back time to time so u can get them for free.

The monetization part is probably the worst prediction ever. What I loved about 2000s gaming is that games either gave you bonuses for progressing through the game with good scores and stuff or just gave you bonuses to increase your likelihood of winning boss fights. Or (in case of sims games) gave you the opportunity to use the diverse content implemented while adding your own if you feel like it. Expansion packs may be quite pricey for some fans, but they are a lesser evil compared to Fortnight-style monetization

I saw a thing about how with sims 5 you can only play one household per save file which to me is a total game killer. I mostly build and occasionally play, but not for very long with any one family. But I liked Sims 2 where you could play different families and it wouldn't progress time for the other families you're not focused on so that you could tell an interconnecting story if you wanted to. I liked that level of control. So was sad when that wasn't possible in sims 4, but at least I can create lots of families to fill out my neighbourhood. Seems like sims 5 planning to be only the one household would just be so boring. And very annoying having to make more and more save files just to have different households. If that happens then I'm most definitely not going to be playing Sims 5. I don't care if its free to play. I won't play out of principle.

I personally believe the "Always online" is a trend to avoid piracy. Does... Diablo, or Assassin's Creed need to be always online? No absolutely not, but in that way they can control the narrative. As of right now, i believe EA is trying to apply this model to The Sims 5 for maximum profit, not realizing it's not compatible with the Sims format.

Games are able to do DRM without always being online, but if they aren't, they can't do is precise market analysis. The female playerbase then also takes *itself* less seriously, and doesn't make those investments because the companies set this low bar for the games, and the games aren't impressive enough to entice the femme players to want to invest in a better pc. I think the Sims target audience is no longer OG players but perhaps maybe trying to convert mobile type players to console. They also maybe targeting a younger audience that don't remember the days when you bought a complete game. The current game is already crazy expensive I can't see a world where a microtransaction type game succeeds with it its current player base.
@KaiLucasZachary
@KaiLucasZachary Жыл бұрын
Let's try to use that argument: For the first one: "mobile gamers" just aren't going to become people who actually play games on a desktop or laptop for hours at a time. Anyone who is a "mobile gamer" is an underage kid who can't afford anything their parents won't give them or someone who does it when they have spare time in a waiting room. Someone who "games" on their phone is in no way the same as a PC player, so to trying to "convert" them is rather pointless. They're two entirely different types of people. For the second one: let's suppose they are trying to reach a younger demographic (which is stupid in itself, because why would you turn away good, loyal customers from decades before?). If that **is** the goal, I understand the more cartoonish style and silly animations. I even sort of understand a higher-up executive saying that younger kids don't actually care about gameplay that much (which is stupid, but I can imagine an executive who knows nothing about games saying it). EVEN IN THAT CASE, how many expansion packs do they think they can put out for 12-yr-olds before the parents are going to say enough's enough? EVEN IF it were only kids buying the game, what parent - if told ahead of time - would pay ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for a video game for their kid (if you want everything included in Sims 4)? I understand the arguments you're trying to make, but even those arguments don't stand up to people who actually have to pay bills and have a mind of their own when it comes to consumerism.

After a couple of months of playing the sims I was like "woweee can't wait for Paralives to be out cause TS4 is NOT it". I play the sims religiously still, but honestly about as soon as Paralives is out I might jump ship. I think it's gonna make the Sims want to be better and make them listen to us because they don't want to "lose" us to their competition. I remember one place that I worked for over 10 years...one of their mottos was "underpromise and overdeliver". It was a seasonal tax business. But they had been in the same location, and are still in that location, 15 years later. This is far longer than most tax businesses that do not employ CPAs or EAs. The owner of the franchise built her whole business around that motto, and now has so many customers that no more major marketing is even needed: the office is at capacity, with only 8 desks for 3000 returns per season. Hype only goes so far. In the long term, if you hype something up, but in the end you disappoint, you lose customers and business. This is a lesson EA apparently has not learned yet. Their marketing cycle is SO predictable: hush hush to build anticipation. Then release a video showing ALL the features of the game and hold nothing back. Then the game comes out, and players are disappointed that there really is just no more to it.

I was literally thinking about this minutes before you uploaded. I’m very worried about the sims 5. The multiple player being optional is a little reassuring. The sims 5 being on mobile and computer? HUGE RED FLAG for me. That just seems like such a bad idea for me. Mobile games are so limiting. It makes me sorta of dread it. I’m not surprised the sims is going down even more micro transactions. And having to unlock stuff like hair? I feel like that goes against the fundamental freedom of a life sim. I LOVE the sims. I remember watching sim story videos and let’s plays when I was younger because my parents wouldn’t let me get the game. When I was finally allowed to have it I’d play for days and days. I want nothing but good things for the sims 5, and yet, all I feel is dread. Maybe it’s a bit too early to tell. I’m hoping projects like Paralives do end up getting their release (you just never know with indie games because games are so time consuming and expensive). Even then that’s years down the line. I might end up sticking with the sims 4, sailing the high seas with all the packs, destroying my computer with 100 mods until the end of time lol. But like I understand what you’re feeling because this was also a huge special interested of mine and it kills me to loose all faith in it.

Here’s the thing- you can love a thing and find a lot of faults in it. If anything, it’s a sign that you do truly love something when you want to see it better. As long as it isn’t aimless negativity (which yours isn’t, you offer alternatives and suggest what WE would like to see), it’s a good thing to voice concerns. People who blindly Stan and adore things and think that it must mean you find every detail perfect as is aren’t loving that thing.

There’s no point in loving a corporate product. I used to enjoy the Sims, but at some point, it became pretty clear that it wasn’t fun for me anymore. It’s obvious that these companies just take advantage of the positive feelings and loyalty people have for the game… no matter what. Sometimes it’s time to disengage. I stopped playing Sims a while ago, and I have no intention of buying or playing Sims 5. The writing is on the wall: they fully intend to take advantage of the player base because they think this player base will buy their products no matter what. Frankly, they’re not wrong. Real things deserve my love and affection: my family, my cats, etc. Corporate products do not. I still play older Sims games, but it’s been pretty clear the direction EA has been taking the Sims in for a while. It’s one thing if you genuinely enjoy the game, but if you’re not having fun and you’re being exploited, it’s time to disengage and find a new hobby.

I remember similar talk about ‘mobile’ and ‘streamlining’ and ‘ease of access’ back when Sims 4 was being talked about before it came out. These are just code for removal of in depth gameplay mechanics and the general transitioning to surface level gaming more heavily based on visuals and cosmetics. The sims gameplay was heavily dumbed down during the switch from 3 to 4 and I fear the same will happen again from 4 to 5. The open world and increased customisations to build/buy/createasim will be superficial improvements to hide the long list of content removed to make the game easier to make and more viable on mobile.

I think it might end up being a bit like the Sims 4 Multiplayer Mod? If you wanna see how that works, Dr. Gluon has a bunch of videos where he uses it to play with other creators. It seems like the best way to do it, where you can invite people into your game, and they each control their own sim, but since it's your save, you can control what lot they're on. In other words, if you want, you could have your own save that no one enters, but then a different save set up to play with friends. I also believe with that mod, you can kick people out or they can just leave without impacting the game. Not sure, but that would have to be a fail-safe if someone's getting rowdy on you or, my worst fear, you find out you've got a 10 year-old in your game 😬

It really seems like they do not like people modding their game. My biggest worry though, is that instead of expansion/game/stuff packs are going to become micro transactions & that it’s going to behave a lot like the sims mobile games that are already out there, for example: actions cause energy; you’re going to need another form of currency that’s not originally available(diamonds or whatever) to buy certain things in game; having to wait real time for certain actions, not being able to speed through stuff. All the not so fun stuff of mobile games which is basically forcing you to pay money in order to advance. All, in all, I’m very concerned and not at all excited. I also love the Sims 4, but it still falls very, very short. & it already seems very money grab-ish. But, like you said, we have no idea so maybe I could be wrong? God, I really hope I’m wrong.
