@@eric2980 Umm, well in primary school (between ages 4-11) we used to get in a coach to the local leisure centre/ swimming pool and go swimming and you were awarded patches whenever you hit a new milestone like no arm-bands or swimming 10m unaided and for some reason the patches were made by the cereal company Kellogs and you had to get someone to stitch them to your swim gear. There is no way of explaining it that doesn't sound weird, it's very much a you-had-to-be-there kind of deal.

As a trans guy, I really appreciate the disclaimer in the begining. It seems as if everything and everyone involved in the Harry Potter franchise and fandom are now disassociating with Rowling. It was lovely to hear some of the cast of the films speak out against her. JK Rowling never suggested otherwise and it’s sad that some people don’t understand that. She was simply defending female identity. It’s insane that the views of SOME trans people (who as a whole make up no more than 2% of the population) are threatening to override the rights, identity and safety of 51% of the population. If anyone wants to defend JK Rowling, think about this... The whole controversy started when she questioned an article that used the term "people who menstruate." She bascially said, "We used to call them 'women.'" That was the beginning of everything that happened. And here's the problem...There are trans men who menstruate. There are people who are agender and choose not to identify as "women" who menstruate. There is NOTHING wrong with the term " people who menstruate." It's inclusive. Changing it to just say "women" excludes a lot of people. Why would you want to exclude people? How does acknowledging them affect your life in any way? I'm a woman and a feminist. I'm all about female empowerment. But I'm not for discrimination. If you're so triggered by the use of the word "people" that you need to tweet about it for millions of people to see, you clearly have some kind of issues that you need to work out. Of all of the things going on in the world right now that you could be speaking about, this is the hill you want to die on? Really? I'm open to other people's opinions on this, but I've heard all of the "arguments" and no one has come up with a valid rebuttal. One woman said, "You could say 'women and other people,'" but it's a headline! I work as a professional writer. Headlines should be quick and punchy. And then I've heard people talk about biological sex. Yes, biological sex exists. That wasn't the issue. Too many people totally missed the point here. There are biological women, women who were born with female parts, who identify as men. Maybe they've had surgery and hormones, maybe they haven't. It doesn't matter. Pretending they don't exist or calling them "women" is transphobic. It's 2020. Haven't we learned all of this by now?

Love it. Especially since people can be biologically intersexed and would never have been included in the "old" definition (medical sex) of "women" but may still menstruate. What's so weird to me is being "triggered" by the inclusive language, as if it personally offends them somehow. Language is supposed to help us convey what we are thinking. As such, it changes over time. Who cares how we defined "woman" before? When we evolve as a culture, language evolves too. It's silly to be stuck to the old definitions of things when science, medicine, and culture at large see a need to change the definition.

I never got why a children's author who hasn't produced anything of merit since 2007 thought herself qualified to make sweeping political statements. Makin' Magic was BY FAR of ALL SIMS EPS is my absolute favourite! Think my mum bought me the Sims 1 (and then Makin' Magic a few months later) when I was little, and I WAS HOOKED. It's the reason why I loved the Supernatural pack so much for Sims 3.
