By God is this true. I also get that after a day of nothing, I just settle to hope for a better tomorrow. I give up before the day is over, when I still can save it. That's the last temptation of the day, "you've already wasted it, why bother? Tomorrow you'll have renewed energy." Tomorrow you'll probably feel exactly like you feel now. Get behind us, Satan! Stumbling block to Christ! Lord, set our hearts on your purposes.

Yes, I hear you. I am trying to do one more thing than I think/believe I can each day (it may be to pour a bath, clean the sink, call my mom, drop of those donations-depends on the level I am at that time). Then I thank God for the running water, that I have so abundantly and so on....I personally spent a lot of energy in my life looking at whether I am doing bad instead of looking at where I could do more good.

I grew up with a very intimate relationship with hard physical labor (I worked for Dad). I have been applying the knowledge of "keep plugging along" to most things in my life. My spirituality is no different. I've also heard Fr. Corapi say ,"You don't feel like praying? Tough, do it anyway!" I look at prayer as my duty to the Almighty Father, to my loved ones, to the Faithful and to myself. Pray for me as I am praying for you!

Thank you for addressing this. I struggle esp. when I’m off work, as in school breaks (teacher). I have a difficult time keeping leisure and proper rest from turning into whole weeks of sluggishness. Wow, exact same issue with me. I am also a teacher and struggle with the exact same problem. I lay on the couch to rest just for a moment. Yet hours later, nothing gets done for the day. Then this becomes a problem multiple days in a row. It is a struggle overcoming the paralysis that sets in once off work. It's much easier to lay and pray or watch podcasts rather than completing chores around the house. Before you know it, the house is a mess! Definitely searching for a way to overcome this paralysis, or sloth!

Like I’m climbing up a mountain with a huge bolder on my back and nothing I do is good enough. I see my cousins archive things during this pandemic and world crisis and I just can’t seem to pull myself out of this depression? like I’ll never achieve anything ever again and it just depresses me more. Thank you for reminding me to keep going. To getting closer to God and his wishes for my life but also to keep striving for my dreams no matter how dire things look right now. Praise God. This 7 seconds actually massively helped me in understanding so much about my life and my relationship to God and where I need to pray. I always wondered about such things, but growing up protestant lacks sooo much clarity on so much of my base experience. God is the only answer to all our pain and suffering and Catholicism is the means to understanding and growing in that relationship with God according to how everyone needs, not just a particular kind of person who is apparently superior (as protestant communities often act so often)...

Thank you, this is helpful. Every case is individual, of course, so the way it manifests will vary. Some of us have so much on our plates that sloth intrudes in the off time. I'm not talking about things we chose to do, but actual family duties. The obligations might be fulfilled, but anything beyond that is neglected, leading to spiritual stagnation. But it's helpful to know that there is a safeguard to keep from falling into despair. As always, 3 Hail Marys for you, Father 🌹🌹🌹🙏🏻

Hello, I would like to have more practical advice - I already go you confession frequently. I live alone in foreign country, I don't have family and friends here but back home. I am working as flight attend, it's very hard to keep a routine for me. What exactly should I practice to overcome laziness? I feel lonely sometimes, want to become saint but don't know how. I have a mission from God to heal souls but I don't know in what particular way. I want to accomplish what I am born to do. My only interest is in spiritual life, practical things are somewhat painful, they are meaningless to me, I have no interest in them, but I push myself to do it. However sometimes I spend all day on KZbin videos. I understand that it has no point but what should I do.

i think it was Kierkegaard who said "the saint is that person who remains focused on one thing". obviously this is referring to God. and it pairs really well with "the saint becomes themself". my takeaway is that by focusing on God, the one Being, we are also participating in Being. and the only way to be, is to be Good. so everything that takes from our focus on God, also takes from our ability to be. and that is sloth: the refusal to be.

I second a comment made by another person about differentiating between psychological depression and sloth. Is there a difference? If so, are you still committing the sin of sloth if you've been diagnosed with clinical depression? This is very confusing, and it also overlaps with Ignatian teaching on spiritual desolation. Is it a bad spirit of sloth that I have to somehow find the strength to reject, or a bonifide genetic illness like depression for which I have zero strength to fight at times?
@kimfleury
@kimfleury 3 жыл бұрын
If I may suggest, look into your will - that is, consider what you want. I think it is so difficult to distinguish between spiritual sloth and physical depression as a bio-chemical disorder, that psychologists don't always differentiate between them. Of course, a secular psychologist won't even consider spiritual sloth as a possibility. However, if your will is to follow the will of God, then simply ask Him to remove negative spiritual aspects of your disorder, then trust that He will, and just do your best to manage your physical condition. I think if you do that, and if it turns out that it's all spiritual warfare, then you have fought the battle. Fighting the battle gives glory to God. 🙏🏻📿 You're permanently in my prayers ✝️

You understanding of sloth is correct, but you left out one important flaw. Hope. Sloth is accompanied by a loss of Hope. Gospel means Good News. Now why would anyone who had been taught the Good News not have hope? Maybe because the Good News being taught is a false one. A lie the Church was teaching by pushing a false Kingdom of God. So many sources of so many cultural sins comes from the lies of the Catholic Church and its false understanding of the Kingdom of God, that stem from its heretical Natural Law Theology.

You teach a false Sin of Sloth that hides the Truth of the True Resurrection at the end of the Age in order to blame the poor for the sins of the Alpha Male Pyramidal incompetent leadership of Money and Power of the last 2000 years. In short, you don't worship the Father, you worship the Trinity of Time, Money and Power, while turning your back on poor. Ezekiel 34:7-10 7 “‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and has become food for all the wild animals, and because my shepherds did not search for my flock but cared for themselves rather than for my flock, 9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 10 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves. I will rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.

Piddlewash! Your ilk hates the poor. I've been impoverished my whole life, I know your kind well. I was once invited to a fancy family dinner where the hosts obviously expected praise and gratitude, which I did give, but would have given anyway. During the meal, they bragged about their teen granddaughter who had performed the charitable act of taking holiday turkeys to poor families. They asked her to tell about her experience, and she talked about how ungrateful the poor were. If they and you don't repent of this arrogance, and pay the penalty owed to God, then you have received your reward on earth and won't be invited to the wedding feast of the Bridegroom.
