I'm a very accomplished performer of akward musical experiences. Thought I'd share it with you.
A way better performer on the Musical Saw is Natalia Paruz:
• Musical Saw in the NYC...
Candy for German ears (if you like hysterical satire):
• Goldene Weihnacht (8) ...
The piano piece used in the video, Kevin MacLeod's "There is romance", is royalty free available here:
incompetech.com...
Ok, I'm off to celebrate Christmas.

OMG !!! If you only knoew how long I have been looking for a piece played on the Saw! My father used to play (a real) saw at family get together long long ago in Jan Kemp Dorp, South Africa. Good holy memories.

My cat was completely entranced by your performance on the saw; he stared very intently at the screen until you were done. Me, I liked the "Saw vs. Violin" shots.

I only recently found (or rather stumbled into) your channel, and I really like what I have seen so far. You are funny, informative and very entertaining! Having just seen your Christmas videos I discovered you are also an accomplished baker, house decorator AND you play the musical saw!! I love it! Keep up the great work! We need people like you on KZbin!!

Any saw plays - you don't need a specially made one. I started by playing an old saw I borrowed from my landlady (who was using it for woodwork).

Thank you so much for sharing that! I remember elementary school recitals on the Bass Viol. While being an accomplished performer, I try and avoid Christmas music because of those memories! You are adorable in pigtails, BTW.

Awesome! Also, I heard the whole thing on the radio on new year's eve. They asked the audience to call in and deliver a line from the sketch. If my memory serves me right they got all the lines from around 100 people. It was a bit scary honestly.

Sandy??! Are you talking to me? If you are: I made the handel myself after the one I saw Natalia Paruz using. You can buy handels on the Internet, but they are a different shape, have a less good grip, which is why I made that one myself.

That was really amazing, I had no idea one could actually play a saw as a musical instrument! I'm so glad you've been making more videos lately, I very much enjoy them and more often than not I learn something new from them. So, thank you :]

Considering you have a violin, never mind a musical saw, I am guessing you really can play the violin. Which really does bump you up a notch from polyglot intellectual. Very neat. I've fooled around with a saw-- it's the recurve that makes the tune. I've only rapped it with my knuckles. What makes it scary sounding is the resemblance to a theremin-- famed of science fiction movies (and the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations"!)

It plugs in nicely with the specifically German sense of humour, at least the high(errr..)-brow variety. It's said to be non-existent, but personally (although I'm probably biased) I think it's just weird and has a high affinity towards the absurd. Re-running this show every year is a meta joke. As is writing a micro essay on youtube. For an additional sample, youtube "Herren im Bad", if you speak a bit of German. Have a wonderful 2013!

All of my immediate family play both the violin and the piano. We all sing, too - apart from my Dad, who plays the cello as well - so I can say quite safely that I don't want to imagine the horror of squeaky Christmas carols on a violin when it's played badly.

Interesting how you said flute could be played with ease and trumpet sounded bad unless you were very good. I play both, and flute was significantly harder for me to learn the correct tonality of, because every tilt of the head or change of the mouth causes a change in pitch. Trumpet though, you do need a strong embouchure and a steady hand. Different instruments are different for everybody I guess :)
