We've been making these for about 7 years from Estonia where there is a superstition that putting up the paper snowflakes make it actually snow for real :)

i think allot of what makes christmas special is the nostalgia from childhood, like you were talking about the stars from your child. personally, christmas for me isn't about decorations, its not about presents, trees or any of that stuff. christmas for me is playing scrabble or cards into the tiny hours of morning with my family. its not really christmas unless we have a scrabble board or atleast two decks of playing cards.

The first thing I noticed was the hexagonal form and wondered if you'd seen Vi Hart do it. What's more annoying than square snowflakes? The online computer-generated images of 5-point snowflake-like crystals. There are very few pentagonal crystals. Water is never one of them.

As I was watching the video I was folding frobel stars for gifts for my kid's teaachers. 14 folded 30 more to go before Monday, then they need dipped in wax and have a string put thru them. I should be ok if I don't sleep tonight. Great to meet another frobel-er.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I think I'll (try to) make some stars and put them up on my window. They're pretty! I used to make paper cutting things years ago at school, I assume the knowledge is still somewhere in the back of my head.

My sister does similar things.. Luminus.. (they shine in the dark) and they freak me out when i am visiting and wake up in a strange house...half asleep.. I am to clumsy to make anything like this (you need tiny fingers) like elves..
