Great discussion. One has to deliberately NOT want to know the truth to misunderstand. The teaching is so clear. 1 Peter 3:21 cannot be any simpler.

To those who say we need "no works", what about repentance? For an addict to quit his addiction, is a tremdous work. Also, if we need not DO anything to be saved, then the entire world is automatically saved.

This was a good introductory video to what the Bible says is necessary for Salvation. It actually teaches that a number of things are necessary. If you are interested in a whole Bible Study about this, I can send a link.

People are deceived and confused into thinking the prayer of repentance is salvation by itself, but it is not. You must be baptized as Jesus has said, as Peter said, and as Paul and every conversion in Acts did. They were baptized. Paul explains how important baptism is in Romans chapter 6. We must be baptized into Jesus' death. He died for us, so we will not die.

What the difference in sinners prayer and regular prayer?? Why do people add things to the Bible like the sinners prayer? Prayer alter?

What the Bible says about the sinner's prayer would only take a second to discuss, as the Bible says nothing about a prayer to be made for salvation. In fact, the Scriptures say that God does not hear the prayer of the sinner.

Question: If God doesn’t hear the prayer of a sinner, then what are we to make of statements in the Bible such as what David wrote in Psalm 32:5, etc? He says that he confessed & acknowledged his sin before the Lord & was forgiven. Did God not listen to the prayers of David, a sinful man? How does God hear anyone’s prayer at all, since we are all sinners?

There is a difference between a person living a lifestyle of sin and a child of God who occasionally commits a sin. David, a Jew, was in a covenant relationship with God. Yes, like all of us, he sinned from time to time. Today, one who does not obey God's commands regarding obedience is a "sinner," alienated from God. God does not hear that person's prayer. However, once a person obeys the gospel and becomes a Christian, when they sin, the remedy is repent and pray, as Simon the sorcerer was told to do. But there is no instruction or example in the Bible of the non-Christian simply praying to be saved. It is that person's prayer that God does not hear.

@@TCS088 Thank you for the response, I believe we do agree on this. I think that we just need to be careful about blanket statements like “God will not hear the prayer of a sinner” without qualifying what we mean. Perhaps we must start with a notion of God’s omniscience. If God knows all things, then He hears all prayers, including the prayer of the “sinner”. But according to His holy, righteous nature, our own sin blocks our prayers from reaching Him, so to speak. Isaiah 59 seems to represent both of these ideas simultaneously. The clarifying factor seems to be that God will not listen to the prayers of the *habitual sinner with an unrepentant heart*. This makes it categorically distinct & does not include the contrite sinner who is genuinely asking for forgiveness. God bless, my friend.

"Ask and it will be given to you." For the lost soul to pray to find the way, of course his prayer is heard.

Actually there is a "Sinners Prayer" in the Bible. However, one must study deeply to find it. In the Old Testament, when the priest would cut the throat of the sacrifice there were two things done (at least) and that was prayer given (asking for forgiveness) and to call out the Name of the Lord. Basically this was a verbal confirmation of the sacrifice to God. However, the Sinners Prayer today, meaning just asking for forgiveness when the Plan of Salvation has been given to us directly. That is by Baptism, and no baptism isn't the only thing that is required. This is just a part.

Doing the will of the Father is not performing some pre determined liturgical acts every Sunday. Doing the will of the father is loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind and loving your neighbor as yourself.

(Acts 10:34-48 ) 34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 9
