Wanted to catch-up with you all on the current situation in the world, and to share with you a routine I've created. On the day I filmed this I was feeling more positive and "ok" with the situation. Today though I am depressed, worried and not feeling positive at all. This worries me because it's made me think that you guys watching this will also be feeling all sorts of ways about it, and I don't want to come across as too positive or too negative! I hope you understand? I’m trying to look for the positives that this situation "might" bring, although it can feel like there are none…. But these could be newfound closeness with family and friends, time to do things in our life that we have never had the time to do before…. I send love to all of you and your families, i hope you all keep safe and well and I hope you don't mind me chatting away in this video. I don't want to add to the stress but I know lots of you have wanted me to acknowledge this situation.

It’s also taken a toll on me, who is home in isolation from Monday evening... the first two days were great and productive then I nosedived into anxiety yesterday and had to sleep whole day. Today I was productive again, but nervous because I lost a full day of work - yes, we still have deadlines and meetings even though employees are home and are expected to work as normal... it’s really hard because I now have to work this weekend to meet the deadlines, and this blurs the work/home situation even more. I am not looking forward to the coming weeks. 😰

It’s kind of hard to be positive when everything is closed, family members potentially losing their jobs, so don’t feel bad. I’m here at home, worried like everyone else. I went to the grocery store today, most shelves were bare and there amongst these empty isles was an elderly man (had to be in his 80,s) looking extremely grim I felt pulled to him. I went to him and mentioned he should be at home. He then without hesitate and very softly said my wife is ill ( hell, I panicked, I asked if she had the “C” and he said no she had something I did not understand, but he was very reassuring it was not the “C”) and he wanted to get something for her, because she was so down. I asked what in particular was he looking for, he said she was wanting pasta because it filled her up quicker, as she only eats once daily. Sadly, there was none, the shelve was empty. In my car I had 1 box of pasta (organic, not the same kind I’m sure he was used to seeing) I got from another store (you have to go from store to store to find anything, it’s totally insane). I asked how did he get here, he said he drove, what the hell, I thought. I said do me a favor go back to your car I will get what u need and bring it to you. He told me where his car was. I bought a jar of organic spaghetti sauce, frozen garlic bread and by the front door of the store was some tulips, I bought those, went to my car got the pasta. Gave it to him. Told him take this to your wife, take care of yourselves. And, please don’t come back out. The man looked like he was about to cry. Said “Sir, spend time at home, we care about you. Unfortunately, it’s not safe for you right now. My message is to everybody, please help those that you can, there are much more people worse off. I don’t want a pat on the back, just help your neighbor!

I suffer with anxiety and depression and due to the current situation I am now isolated alone until this blows over. My roommates have left our appartment and I don't have any family in UK and I can't go to my country as they've shut borders. I have been so depressed this past week and so anxious I just want to cry all day and not get out of bed. In these past few days I have been so grateful for your videos as I feel like I have a friend here and I don't feel so lonely even if it's just for a few minutes. Thanks a lot Sophie for your tips! I would also like to share my experience of self-isolation starting January as someone living in Hong Kong, a metropolitan with dense populations and traumatised by SARS in 2003. Like most of the people here, I started social distancing around end of January. The Government asked all civil servants (except healthcare workers, firemen etc) to work from home and most employers to followed suit. The first two weeks the whole city was very very quiet, and we experienced a phase of panic buying as most of our food are imported from China, and all cleaning supplies/disinfectants were sold out by end of January... luckily the supply was back to normal... I only started going out socially once a week around the end of Feb (outdoor dining mostly), and everyone still wears masks in public places. Although masks can't prevent us from the infection, they could prevent the spread of droplets from the patients without symptoms, who are one of the main source of the virus in countries like Italy. Hand sanitisers are available in many public places including shopping malls, entrance of the buildings etc, and all public transports are cleaned a few times daily. Until last week the spread of the virus was well contained in Hong Kong with daily increase of 1 to 2 cases only, with total cases of around 150 since Jan. So the collective efforts of the government and people paid off...However, things started to change since this Tues as many students studying abroad from UK, US etc rushed back into Hong Kong and we suddenly saw the increase of 48 cases in a single day. The number is almost as high as the imported cases from China at the beginning of the outbreak, and it shows potentially how serious the situation actually is around the world. It's been almost two months now since my voluntary self-isolation - the first month flew by very fast as I was busy with work and conducting online teaching, but since the teaching term will end soon, I would have more free time. I fully understand the emotional journey you went through, but it is also a good time to do other things on our to do list, as you suggested. As someone living alone, I need to create a structure to ensure that I use the time wisely and won't be emotionally affected by the isolation. So apart from chatting with friends online, I set a weight loss goal, invested in a rebounder (it should arrive today!), practice longer meditation and plan to pick up French again.... I also have a list of books that I need to finish reading in the next two months. All in all, what I would like to say is that, the situation may take months to settle and it is important for us to hold the energy and stay positive. I think one of the reasons for our frustration is the lack of freedom which we deserve, but if we can reframe it as a voluntary action to help containing the virus and protect the vulnerable groups, we could feel differently....I believe that with patience and persistence, the efforts will pay off... Sorry for the long comment and hope some of us think it is useful. Stay strong and beautiful sisters!

I'm a ballet dancer! I got so excited and happy when you mentioned that workout. Everyone should do mild barre work even if they don't dance. It's so good your your core, balance and brain (the right kind of workout makes you concentrate on what you are doing to do it correctly actually makes your brain make far more new connections compared to standing on a treadmill or exercise bike - not that those are in any way bad exercises at all). 1. I've actually (through a group on FB) made 10 new pen pals. So that is a tip from me to make the time pass. I'm writing letters and believe me, it takes time to write a good letter when you are writing to strangers - introduction the old fashioned way! These new pen pals are based around the world, I'm in Sweden and the letters are going and coming from the UK, Germany, Denmark, Canada, US and Australia. So it is truly amazing to be "isolated" in my corner of the world yet get to know these people and their life stories who are so wholly unconnected from you. 2. Read or find people who are reading live/online. I'm following The Ravenmaster of the Tower of London here on KZbin and He is reading a Chapter from his book everyday. Another is Jane Austens Emma, who is being read by Chapters on FB by the group Drunk Austen. Jennifer Ehle is reading Pride and Prejudice live on Instagram every day too. And there are som many more out there taking the time to read out loud and sharing it. It has become such a wonderful pastime of mine each day. 3.Do puzzels, play games, knitting, sewing or perhaps even paint or do some ceramic works. Be creative! And maybe take these days as a way to learn to cook or bake if you don't already know how to! Maisie Williams (aka. Arya Stark) is posting her friend cooking at home on Instagram, her friend is a chef! 4. Study online! (Just like Sophie mentioned, get online, google, find courses to whatever you have a passion for and get studying.) 5. Send stuff to people. Surprise friends and family. I sent my mother a little care-package. She has a chronicle illness so, whilst in Sweden we aren't yet in need to self isolate (though we are encouraged to not gather in groups larger than 10 people), she is self isolating because those are the guidelines here in Sweden for the elderly, people with chronicle illnesses and those suffering with poor health. I sent her a few books, some seeds as she does spend time in her garden, some yarn because she loves to knit, and some homemade cookies. 6. Watch all these lovely KZbinrs who have stepped up their game to keep us entertained and make the days go by faster - Soph, you are amazing to do this, thank you! Ps. I'll send you a letter too. 😘

I am 71 and all alone. I live in an apartment complex, and they were forced to lock the club house, exercise room, pool, and grills. I have a little dog that I walk three times a day. Other dog walkers use to stop and chat for a few minutes, but now they walk in the opposite direction when they see me and my dog. It really makes you feel even more alone. I understand but it doesn't help much. I have tried going to the grocery store, but the shelves are so empty it makes you feel hopeless. Watching your video did make me feel more like I am not alone in this. Thank goodness for my little dog, because he likes to eat, walk and play all according to a schedule. You are right, having a schedule does help. Thank you so much for your videos.

I'm literally across the United States for a friend's wedding at the moment and had to completely change my flights because my entire state is on lockdown. I found out on Twitter because no one I knew bothered to tell me the day it happened. =_= I got really scared, actually, and was luckily able to change my flight to something sooner. This is the first vacation I've had in a decade and I had to cut it short so I don't get stuck here. All of my medication and whatnot is at home. I told my cousin, who is minding my cat, what was going on, and she blew up. What's been interesting for me is seeing who I can actually rely on in these situations. I've learned my dad, despite his gruff exterior, really DOES care and wants the best for me. My mom's been a bit quiet but we're trying to make each other laugh via text message as much as possible. I've learned that I have some of the most loving friends anyone could ask for. I have food allergies and the one who works at a grocer's is making sure I can get my gluten free foods, which people who probably don't need it are buying up (I literally can't eat gluten without serious consequences). I'm just so filled with gratitude for the people on the front lines of this illness, I'm grateful that blue collar workers (including my housemates) are still out there doing their jobs. Unfortunately I'm also unemployed and this has devastated my ability to find a job at the moment. I was meant to take an exam for a State of California job and due to the large number of cases they've cancelled ALL of them. It's the ONLY one that I have to take in person, it's only every three months and now I have no idea when they're going to offer them again. I hope it's soon. I really don't want to go back to tech contracting it's miserable haha. I'm trying to stay positive myself. I choose to check my local municipality's update page only. I don't watch the news, I minimize my time on social media (I actually use apps to block my feed to avoid seeing stressful content) and I'm fortunate to have a lovely park by my house so I'm going to take a walk each morning when the sun goes up to get myself going. I'm going to keep applying for remote work positions while I'm sitting about and maybe I'll get lucky to get something like that so I never have to work in an office again unless I choose to lol. Sorry about the ramble I have so many feelings about this and I feel safe sharing here...

Do whatever you need to do to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And good luck on your State of CA exam, whenever it's rescheduled. :)

Usually when there’s a pandemic, there’re days where the peak is extremely high and scary but once it reaches its peak and it’ll gradually slow down. That was what happening in Singapore during January this year. We could see people fainted and collapsed on the ground in the public out of sudden. And, there were clusters of infected people etc. Things are getting better here. People go to work as usual but however precaution measures still need to be taken such as wearing mask, using hand sanitizer, washing hands regularly, avoid large group gatherings etc. The world will pull through this pandemic 🙏🏼

I'm locked at home too. I totally feel you, I got through different stages as well, and I still do. Even though everything I expected in terms of availability of food and travel options happened, so I was a bit more prepared. Still, some days I'm more calm and some days I'm way more anxious. The philosophy that I follow though focuses on trying to maintain a positive attitude, so this really helped. When I feel I'm too overwhelmed with information about the situation or people that are too worried, I just ignore that, close the screen and do something else. Staying in home can be fun! And the grimmest of scenarios always involve financial crisis and recession, which is something we can totally beat. Physically, health wise, most of us will be fine. Hang in there!

Pretty Soon?? Scientist say it will ONLY be over once most of the earths population has contracted the virus OR a vaccine is created. Period. Thankfully 80% of the people who contract the virus will have mild to moderate symptoms. 15% may need medical help. 5% may be Critical. And as for young children.. they seem to have no symptoms even though they may have contracted the virus.

Your story about being on the train really comforted me. This week I had to transition to working from home, and I work for the Texas government and this public health emergency had taken a big toll on me physically, mentally, and spiritually. However, your story gives me hope that I will look back on this past week and feel okay and empowered.

I feel the same way. I'm very anxious at the moment. I feel very down but I'm trying to think positively. Because I work at a company that hasn't been doing that well for a while, hours have been reduced at the moment so it's even more depressing but at least I can work from home. It's a very scary time right now for all of us but we'll get through this together. Stay strong, Sophie!

But I kind of also think many people are buying the non-perishable necessities in bulk because they felt things would close down...meaning their job would either temporary or permanently layoff...therefore they aren't going to have money for a while 🤔?! Even with unemployment insurance, that only covers 50% of people's monthly expenses...if you're lucky.

I hope you guys are both ok Mathilde, I'm so pleased to hear you have it mild. I have a number of friends who currently think they may have it. All talk of a very sore throat, dry tickly cough, tight chest and body aches which seem to resolve and go away in just over a week. All tell me to do these breathing exercises if i get it to stretch the lungs (think you breath in slow and deep for a count of 10, then breath out - like yoga really). They say this helps with the tightness. I hope you are both nearing the end of it and will soon be recovered. Hugs to you xxx

When Sophie described her changing moods from day to day, it felt like she was taking words out of my mouth. Every day seems different and I am having a very hard time controlling it. Normally, I think I would’ve handled the situation better but I’m 1 week overdue to give birth and have a scheduled induction for an hour from now and sitting around at home, waiting for my baby to arrive in the middle of this craziness (and surrounded by family members who arrived before the lockdown and are driving me crazy) has been so so challenging.

Thanks so much for your uplifting words of wisdom, Sophie! My partner and I live in Spain and the whole country is on Day 9 of lockdown. We are only allowed out to buy groceries or visit a pharmacy - and only one person per household is permitted to do so at any given time. The police are manning supermarket entrances and limiting the number of people allowed to enter, customers are issued with disposable gloves and instructed to keep at least a metre away from other people; only one customer is allowed at each till and there are tapes on the floor indicating where to stand queuing. Thankfully, we personally haven't yet needed to go out for food or medicine, and I am thankful for that. Last Friday, I simply could not face another day in 'comfy' clothes, so I coaxed my partner to tear himself away from his computer and get changed into decent clothes, I baked loads of goodies, dressed myself in a nice dress and high heels, did my hair and makeup, and set us up an afternoon tea, complete with a bottle of Prosecco! Early evening, I received a message from friends back in UK asking if we were up for a SKYPE party - of COURSE we were!!! We spent the rest of the evening catching up on each others' lives and sharing a few drinkies together - it was as if we were all in the same room! What a lift this gave us all - a bit of lighthearted fun in an otherwise grim situation. (I do hope this doesn't come across as being trite or flippant.). Thank heavens for the Internet - so if any of you are feeling lonely or upset, get in touch with your loved ones. Even if only for a quick chat, it makes you feel connected. Above all, try not to sit in despair worrying about what MIGHT happen - be kind to yourselves, and hopefully it won't be too long before we can do as Sophie illustrated, i.e. look back at this time and be thankful we got through it. Sending hugs to you all xxx

Hi Sophie I am in lockdown in southern Spain and all my family are in the UK - not a good situation but I’ve been through worse. Like you my moods are everywhere at the minute but even though I have no control over what’s happening I do have control over how I choose to feel. Because of all this time I have had loads of time to watch KZbin - new for me - and discovered you ! I’ve watched loads of your videos and they have helped me through the very long lonely days here in what is usually my little bit of paradise. I love hand bags and I have made a strategy for when things get back to normal to get my lady Dior bag - stay away from the news no matter what people say on the news they only thing that matters is how you feel at the end of it all and where you your best person xxxx take care and keep going - your helping people without even knowing your doing it xxxxx

Recent subscriber here! You are one of the most caring people I’ve seen on KZbin! I’ve been teleworking and haven’t left the house in 8 days. While I’m working, I’m good, but outside of that I have some of that anxiety you spoke of. I have started reading a lot this past week to keep my mind off things. Hubby tells me to turn off the news for a while. ;) Wishing health for you, your family, and your KZbin family.

A few minutes in, and I hope Sophie you know that I'm rooting for you and David :) Thank you for mentioning KZbin 'suppressing' vids about ~that shall not be named~. Considering many content creators were giving practical advice (like stocking up on food) and warning about panic MONTHS ago, I do not understand this platform. I'm cringing at all this supermarket drama. We should be better than that.

Hi Sophie. I appreciate this video so much! I am a travel nurse, currently on assignment in NYC. I’m trying to also not get worked up, and trying to remain positive (although I have a family member that’s now sick with the virus). The thing is, I won’t be able to see my elderly parents for a while, for fear of accidentally infecting them. My fiancé has also been affected economically...he’s basically jobless! Luckily my salary will keep us afloat... It’s incredible the things the ?CDC? and/or my Hospital is asking us to do due to the lack of personal protective equipment. It’s dangerous to us. Anyway, I don’t mean to be a downer, but we will get through this! I’ll send you a video of my commute back home from work on the subway from this morning. Thank you so much for your videos, it’s such a welcomed distraction!

I live in Macau, so I can say that this corona virus is truly very scary. Please stay at home. In my place we began to stay at home since the end of January. So I know how serious this is. Just protect yourselves, use mask, use mask, use mask if you need to go out. Gloves and use wash gel or wet paper. Always wash your hand. And take out your shoes in the door, spray with some disinfectant, take out your clothes to wash. This is very serious. Take care please 🙏🏻

I felt great, work isn’t closing, I’ve been avoiding it all by just functioning. Today I had to go to the local supermarket (cat food emergency) and had to fight back the tears. No dry goods. Hardly any tinned goods. Just bare shelves and tape everywhere and it hit home that this is totally unknown. I came home and flopped on my bed. Thanks for sharing. I’m hoping we find a new sustainable way to live after all this. I’m really reevaluating everything about my life x

Bellissima Sophie, writing here from Italy in total lockdown, we are not allowed to leave the house if not for real necessity and that can be hard, many of us at the moment cannot work - I am one of them - and we are without a pay because self-employed. The thing that gets me personally at some moments and makes me feel extremely anxious is worrying about my parents who are elderly and all my loved ones, even some younger friends who have health issues. Watching the news is heartbreaking, I cry every time, so many people are dying here, more every day. My wholehearted gratitude goes out to all the medical staff, the doctors, nurses, volunteers that are putting their lives on the line for us. Then I think about all the police forces and militaries who are keeping us safe by checking the streets and feel grateful. And I think about the pharmacies, the people working in the supermarkets, those that take garbage away, that clean the streets, the carriers that allow us to still be able to buy online, and so on...they are allowing us to still live well in spite of the emergency...and I feel grateful. All that is required of me is to stay safe, to comply and stay home, to take care of my health so that I will not spread the virus and cause more meltdown in the hospitals, and so that I can be sure to keep my elderly safe when I need to bring them food..it helps to think that practising self care is helping all others, and it helps to take time to meditate and/or to pray, to reflect, to practice deep breathing... And I agree this is precious time for many possible projects we can do at home...lets breathe and nurture hope, lets reach out to others and try to soothe each other and be kind and calming. Let us send out much Love and Light and Blessings all over the world. Sending you and David many blessings, stay safe. tanti baci

Enjoyed this vlog dear Sophie, it's good to express it out instead of bottling it up, it's great to see you have made a schedule for yourself which is important and keep busy doing indoor things, if you've got a garden..it's good to get some fresh air too. I have been stuck indoor for the past 6weeks, some weeks bed rested as caught a flu so can't be help. Some days i just get up & do some home cleaning & cooking instead of just lying in bed, do some & rest some. And same here too, since staying at home eating healthy, I've lost 1.5 kg so it's def a good sign but keep busy & focus on what you can control and not things you cannot control, talk to someone by phone, emails, whatever type of wireless communication cuz you need to communicate instead of staying at home alone for weeks otherwise you will go crazy. Diy things is really good for mindset, and if cooking is not your thing, find something that you enjoyed doing at home. I've never find it boring as long as you keep occupied doing something... Take care & wear face mask everyone as the expert says you could catch it within 10seconds from interaction so never let your guard down outside.🤞🏼😍❤️🎈
