This park and Six Flags St. Louis are the only two parks to operate steam locomotives. The Six Flags Over Georgia Railroad used to be steam powered, but unfortunately a decision was made in 2005 to convert both steam locomotives to diesel power. Fiesta Texas also reportedly used to run steam locomotives before they were rebuilt into diesel.

That’s very interesting! I had no idea. I believe I’ve heard from another viewer that this park wanted to convert these steamers, but because they are leased locomotives the owners refused

@@RedRiverRailfan thank goodness because I prefer real steam engines.

@davidng2336 same here! They are beautiful little locomotives and it’d be a shame to see them go to the wayside

@@davidng2336honestly even of they were allowed I dont think it can be done anyway these are not replicas like at the other parks however these do use diesel as there fule

You know, since its 3 foot gauge, any operating locomotive at the Colorado Railroad Museum, Cumbres and Toltec, and Durango and Silverton could run there, unless they are to wide...
@RedRiverRailfan2 жыл бұрын
That’d be cool, but it’s these little locos barely squeeze through some scenery. Who knows though

The coaches of the SF&T are old cattle cars from the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and were more than likely operated along what is now the Cumbess and Toltec / Durango and Silverton. Which at one time (just in case you didn't know) was once all the same line.

Both of the locomotives at SFOT are still owned by the M.A. Patout & Sons sugar mill in Patoutville, La. Six Flags leases them from the Patout family. The one featured here is the HK Porter and the first one purchased by the mill in 1897. The one not seen is the Dickson Works ALCO, born in 1901. I do have on question.... Where are the old locomotives seen along the route?
@RedRiverRailfan3 жыл бұрын
I do believe (according to Six Flags website) that they own these locomotives. And they are located around the stations! Thanks for commenting!
@gradymcclintock3766 Жыл бұрын
@@RedRiverRailfan six don't own them they just operate and maintain them

@@gradymcclintock3766 I’ve looked into this but can’t find anything to support that claim. If you could please share a link to a source I’d greatly appreciate it!
