I knew I was an alcoholic soon as I started liking it so much I couldn't stop at 1 or 2 . When I began drinking it was to get drunk not to just feel good & stop . There was no denial maybe because my parents drank & called themselves alcoholics . Most have to reach rock bottom , some find their bottom & decide to die there . Cold turkey for me after drinking a 12 or 18 pack of beer a day . Working on 5 years sober . When people ask me if I drink I tell them " Not any more I had my share & a little of someone else's too lol "

It is also hereditary, my mum and sister died of this awful disease. People say stop but you can't. Myself and my younger sister also fight every day tocut down. It's a daily battle. People see it as a weakness....we are not weak, just fighting the genes.

When i quit. It seemed like it was everywhere! On television. Everybody on tv was having a great time with a drink or beer in their hand! Commercials always had people drinking. Even shows or movies. I was listening to a talk show on the radio. And John Entwistle from the Who was on. He made alot of sense when he said, people have to realize, not every day is gonna be a big party! Normal people drnk once in a while. Not every day!

It's a terrible decease. One day at a time I'm making ammends to my Family. My kids. I used to bargain with myself saying if I would only drink lager. I reached my rock-bottom. Bad as it was,. I hung around AA for years without a drink feeling miserable. Lying about how good I felt. It wasent until I found a wonderful sober Sponser that I was finally forced to look at me and not others. That was the most sobering experience for me, going through the 12 steps and working them on a daily basis. Yes I did have all these conflicting emotions and so much fear. When I faced my demons head on, I was free.. Good luck mate. Rooting for yer.

It doesn’t matter if people “only” drink beer. Alcohol is alcohol. Alcoholics makes so many excuses for themselves, the denial state. I’m glad to see so many alcoholics here, means they know they have a serious problem. Also glad to see so many wanting to quit. I hope you all reach out for it, quitting needs a special support system. I wish the person, I’m strongly considering to leave, will reach out and get help. I know I can’t help him when he doesn’t want help. He lost his job, now me and only drinking friends that he rarely sees, and a very enabling mother who just makes it all worse. If he keeps drinking then I’m not sure if it’s him or his mother going to die first, and that is a tragic thought to have even to begin with. The person I’m talking about drinks 6-8 (most likely more) every day, smoke weed and is now also on prescription pills as beta blockers and anxiety pills, heavy cocktail. It’s slowly suicide.

Its not going to be any drunkness" Wow , I never gave up, always tried to find another way since the last attempt didnt work. Just resign man, you cant beat master Alcohol, resign and leave dont accept the figt invitations that the "alcohol" will offer in the future. Decline, decline , decline!

The biggest mistake people make is thinking they have to BATTLE alcohol. They don't, they need to understand themselves. The problem is in their mind, not in the bottle. How do I know? i once drank 2 bottles of spirits a day, plus methylated spirits, surgical spirits and more.... I am now 20 years sober. Join me at www.al2al.com on August 1st when I am launching perhaps the biggest online mentoring system.. and it's absolutely free! www.al2al.com

Well done Paul, I find sobriety very empowering tbh and find that ex-alcoholics such as myself and of course yourself and everyone winning he battle have an advantage over "Joe bloggs" we don't take life for granted anymore and really appreciate the simple things in life ..everything else is a bonus! I still have a few problems as I commented on this video earlier tonight but that's more another challenge and something I would never be able to cope with if I was still abusing substances

I used to drink a fair bit but I consider it a lesser method of intoxication. It makes you feel heavy and tired and then shaken up when you wake up. Yuk, I’m happy with a pint of cider every few days, if I want to have a good time I use stimulants. I am not saying I won’t destroy myself with the odd line or two, but I am sure I’ll never go to oblivion with booze because real life is preferable to excessively drinking. Stimulants are no fun in excess either but I don’t think people are aware enough of the negative effects of withdrawal and tend to medicate that with more of the same. One has to mix the pleasures up a bit so you don’t get too clobbered by any particular one. Moderation in all things.....

There is absolutely nothing a person can do to help or convince an addict to quit. We beg, we pray, we offer tough love, advise, and anything at our disposal. But the true addict or alcoholic must drink to live at a certain stage. Horrible. Divine intervention is probably the only way of help

Nice simple breakdown of alcoholism it took me until 44 to sort myself out truly it wasn't just binge drinking it was 2 class A drugs that came along for the ride when I hit my early 30's that extra habit stole 13 years of my life but drink took most of the early years and became the route of all evil in my cross addiction and every time after staying clean off the other stuff it would tip me back on ..That's the past now I'm free from it all though there is a slight snag : my Girlfriend is a fully blown alcoholic and what should be a nice clean enjoyable bout of freedom for me in my sober skin is tainted by the stress of dealing with someone that comes home drunk every day ..I'm still sticking in there to support her but I feel only half qualified the plus factor I suppose is it keeps me on my toes seeing someone in such a state and reminds me of where I once was
