I’m almost 5 months sober and it’s different for everyone but I’m very careful on saying I’ll never drink or do drugs again but I also got help just to give it a shot because I didn’t want to die. For a long time when I was using I didn’t care if I lived or died so it was a big step for me to start caring. I haven’t seriously craved since the first couple months when I was still in rehab but I really can’t tell the future. I just know that I want to give this recovery thing an honest try and if I want to go back to using drugs after I can but I will be better off for trying. I’m just focused on doing what I can to see what life as adult is like sober. I still have mental health issues but atleast now it’s way easier to deal with them

Clean 5yrs now from heroin. Best thing I heard in one of the 6 rehabs I was in....”would you rather keep doing the one thing you’re doing, and lose everything? Or would you rather keep everything and lose the one thing you’re doing?” I had lost my job. My home. All materials possessions. My looks. My family. My self respect & dignity. My MORALS. Now today I got all those things back and am the girl I always knew I was inside. The one my parents raised me to be. I started to accept the fact that I was just going to be a hopeless junkie. When hearing about these addiction stories and the climb they took to drugs like heroin there always seems to be one common trend, age. Every time they start drinking/smoking around middle school. Never touched anything till I was 17, still bad but waiting a couple of years seems to have deterred me and many others away from harder drugs. Maybe because instead of seeking Percocets in high school I gotta worry about studying for them finals.

Drug education mostly says everything but the truth. They tell you drugs make you feel terrible and it's all bad blah blah blah. Yeah after so long it does. But in the beginning, they highs are incredible and amazing. And these kids who try it who are genetically predisposed to addiction will think they are lying, and continue using drugs and then eventually, yes they do turn on you and eventually it's not longer fun. It feels like your walking on glass and living in hell. And once it's impossible to quit on your own without hell, that's when it becomes impossible. And you do it to not be dope sick, to be able to function normally. And it just feels like you're taking medication prescribed by a doctor that doesn't make you feel anything but normal and functional. If they bring drug education as a subject for schools, they should teach about how it will be in the beginning, and the science behind the drugs, and behind addiction, the short term effects, long term effects, and about the different recovery options such as medication assisted treatment, intensive outpatient rehabilitation, in patient rehabilitation, sober living facilities, 12 Step AA and NA, drug court programs, etc. Everything people should be educated on because most families have at least one family member that suffers with addiction. Education is key.

Lmao the alcohol part sounds like how I was throughout my teens. Used to go in stores walking out with hand baskets and a backpack full of liquor almost everyday of the week lol used to make a killing in middle school and hs. Never got caught, been chased a few times but then the stores got used to me and the employees wouldn't even trip anymore

I very happy for you, I personally know how difficult it is because I was in the same boat but even worse, regardless at least you have gotten cleaned up and got on with life, I’ve been clean for over 19 years and there are days where I still get the urge, although I never give in, I guess it just part of my pass, I thank a God each and every day that I get to wake up sober and healthy, Keep up the hard work and God Bless
