Joel Embiid is not a leader. He's one of the laziest players in the NBA, you can see it from his playoff performances, his motor, his style of play and his clear lack of leadership. I commend him for defending himself against the reporter earlier this season, but that really has nothing to do with what he actually does(or doesn't do) for his team in the locker room. Maxey is a leader, he wants to see his teammates succeed and he also wants to succeed along side them, and seeing how terribly Paul George, and especially Joel Embiid have been playing, it's hard not to get mad and its hard not to raise the concern. This is leading. You need to have the tough conversations, you need to find solutions, and its really bad that Embiid has never even tried doing that, neither has Paul George.

the dude is a literal zombie. he will probably retire at the end of his contract. edit: also, to say he is not a leader is kind of crazy. last season after coming back with one eye and 2 noodles for legs, embiid took the knicks to 6 games averaging 30-10-5 that series.

Embiid habitually puts others around him down to make himself look better. In 2020 He shifted the focus to Ben Simmons while he himself performed terribly. after that when Harden was there, he said he and Harden couldn't do it alone making the others look bad. He played last playoffs, and even though he should have sat out, he turned into a dirty player. Now when they go out in the second or first round again, he may just throw Maxey and Paul George under the bus. It is a pattern of behavior. Even when he was somewhat healthy, he underperformed in the playoffs. I can understand why he does not want to play back-to-backs anymore but at this point, Philly needs to realize, they are not winning with Embiid as their main player. There is just something fundamentally wrong with him as their main option and they need to realize it. The GM has tried optimizing Embiid but there is no optimising him.
