I love the feel of "Normal Suburbia Life" that these kids live in. It gives a real sense of normal and relatable that also has tints of being Star Wars, by having hover-bikes, random alien species who are just the neighbours and classmates, and class droids. If you go into the "Hero's Journey", there is the concept of the hero of a given piece leaving the "Ordinary". This show gives some solid "Ordinary" that is reminiscent of of E.T. - and I saw a video not long ago where the people who wrote and directed this wanted to recall Amblin movies - first Amblin movie that comes to mind for me is E.T., since Amblin made it their logo.

2:30 It's worth mentioning that these are Republic Credits, not Imperial or New Republic credits, those used in shows like The Clone Wars. This could hint at how long this planet has been disconnected from the rest of the galaxy, which might also explain why they still have knowledge of the Jedi, especially since the Empire never had a presence here. I doubt the people on the planet even know about the Fall of the Republic, the Jedi Purge, the Civil War, or the formation of the New Republic. I also wonder if they know about the Clone Wars, or if their isolation began during the High Republic era or even the Old Republic, assuming the Republic Credits hasn't changed much in thousands of years. Most likely the High Republic is the cut off date for whenever this planet was isolated from the galaxy, a few centuries.

Imagine if Force Awakens opened like the first episode of Skeleton Crew, except it’s Finn as a kid, and eventually he is abducted by the Imperial Remnant and we see him forced to train as a Stormtrooper under Phasma’s tutelage. We get the return of Thrawn (NOT SNOKE) Thrawn assuming control and we are introduced to his replacement for Ruhk, Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren given powers by Dathomir Witches. And Rey’s story is combined with Finn or Rey appears already a Jedi as an Obi Wan figure to Finn, and Finn is force sensitive. Simple changes like that could’ve set the sequel trilogy up for success

@@TheCatWatches The biggest problem with this is as much as we hope it would, it would never happen in that era of Hollywood. 2014-2018 was the era of Hollywood pandering to China. Its why Finn's role was reduced in the sequels. To clarify, for those unaware, the Chinese government has to directly approve of every foreign movie aired in China, and they only allow ~50 a year. Its the reason why we had movied like Transformers 4, where the climax takes place in Beijing, or Independence Day 2 and Geostorm where the Chinese government quite literally save the world

When watching it, I both agreed that At Attin looked a little too suburban for Star Wars and recognized my younger self in the characters. I was that kid who had pretend lightsaber fights and read a lot of history and fantasy books. I also remember the animosity between boys and girls, especially the kind of girl who thinks she's so smart and can talk her way out of any situation. This show brought me back to childhood. I also picked up on the Pirates of the Caribbean vibes in Episode 2. In Wim's defense, the button would have been useless if the girls hadn't turned the power back on. Its also a different self contained story in the SWU which I'm all for. Despite as lame and uncreative it seems for At Attin to be just a near earth american suburb planet the lore and mystery around it has been very interesting and I've seen alot of good points and theories made about it from Gen Tech and Eckharts that feel spot on to what might actually be happening, this is definitely gonna be a solid show, nothing too ground breaking unless they pull something crazy out but its probably better than most of what we've gotten for live action SW TV so far.

Hey Theory! I had made a comment about this on a previous post and I’m happy to say that my prediction has proven correct :-). This is what I thought it was going to be so far. It is a fun little Romp with some references to characters and things that have already been established in other Shows/movies, etc. It pulls from 80s pop culture, back to the future, ET, goonies, Peter Pan, and others. I think this will be good because people aren’t expecting it to be earth shattering just a fun romp. And that is where they can slip in some cool stuff. I think Jude Law is still their captain and the whole thing that’s happening in the dungeon is a farce to trick the kids into taking him in and he will plan to double cross them for sure, but probably will start to feel something for the kids along the way. I think Sm33 will be a total bad ass and will also become attached to the kids…. Lastly, what if this world is actually the sanctuary world that Cal Kestis discovered and that’s why there is a field above it and no one has ever heard of it???

I don’t know who is spreading this idea that Shistavanen wolf men were from the High Republic, but it is so annoying. They go back to Lak Sivrak in the cantina in ‘77. This is my fave Star Wars species and I was so ticked when the Special Editions removed him and the other Wolfman of a different species. Gendy’s Clone Wars had a Shistavanen Jedi. There may be one in the High Republic, but they didn’t start there. So glad they’re back in canon!

I think what this show does really well is that it appeals to the people who grew up with the prequel/old trilogy with some good nostalgia things and the Amblin/goonies vibe. but its also a good show for a younger crowd!

You didn't seem to get that that planet has apparently been cut off from the rest of the galaxy probably since the high republic, the guy that protects them in the bar says where'd you get these old or high republic credits. I don't remember which one he says. I think maybe the jedi have made contact with them to recruit jedi maybe because they can feel the force of people on the planet beyond their barrier, but that's my guess. My guess is they're completely cut off. Everyone thinks their planet is mythical. It's basically a vault from fallout.
@austin65627 сағат бұрын
Spot on. I had a similar thought that this planet is a test subject or similar to a vault in the fallout universe. Deleted from Star / galaxy maps and essentially a study on the planet long ago. They are told to not leave either

I think the first episode was ok but the second one made it interesting and exiting, I did find my self pulling my phone out at times because I got disengaged.

Regarding the wolf-alien, what came to me was the Clone Wars Micro-Series. They made a poll to choose between 3 jedi characters for the ending. The character that won was wolf-like; I think it's closer to the idea in SC.

Agreed on all points. Good review Theory. This was sorely needed after the Acolyte. I had just enough trust left to hit play and I’m glad I did.

I really like the idea of this being a young kids adventure in space. Stranger things, goonies and zathura mixed in

I was fairly entertained by the first two episodes, lil bit of slow part mid first episode, but overall I liked it. More importantly for me my son (7) really liked it. The opening scene I thought was the best part. The saber battle reminded me of how we play with sabers, so that got a smile from me.

0:32 why are there roads in star wars? What is a speeder for, what is happening!? My brain is melting out my ears!
@stop73614 сағат бұрын
Jedi are all powerful space gods wielding light sticks of death that fly around on ships as big as aircraft carriers that can travel at the speed of light using hyper drives going through lanes that were first used by giant space whales. And it’s the roads that have melted your brains? 😉😅
@craigcain444514 сағат бұрын
Allen at Generation Tech has a good theory about that..

@@firestorm731 it is kid of unsettling to see in a Star Wars setting to be honest. But I think it’s an acceptable thing just based on the fact that every planet is different, sometimes in small ways and some times in big ones. Maybe this planet is just naturally like this? It’s just normal in their culture. Where as if they were on Coruscant roads like this are a completely foreign thing to them. 🤷🏻♂️

@@craigcain4445 I am gonna check that out! Thanks 👍
@Vaultboy30713 сағат бұрын
@@stop736 Well, that’s kind of the point. The whole American suburban setting is meant to make this planet feel disconnected from the rest of the galaxy, while also evoking the feeling of a little kid during the '80s playing in their home with Star Wars action figures, dreaming of being a Jedi, and discovering a starship that transports us into the Galaxy Far, Far Away. In-universe, something much darker is going on. Everyone outside of America knows just how off-putting and creepy it can be. It's like people are hiding something, personal view on the typical American suburban setting. So clearly something is going on with this planet and the design reflects that.

Stephen King's "Skeleton Crew" published in 1985. He also has stories about school guys. Christine, The Body/Stand by me, Carrie, etc. Disney is exploiting again: now the aesthetics and themes of youth horror films and fantasy works of that time, on which many grew up.

I was confused by the kid playing with Jedi toys as at this point the jedi are less than a myth considering the empire basically wiped them from the history books,until I heard them say republic and realised this place was cut off for a good while, The fact they chose to include the jedi toys as a hint to At Attan's mystery shows they've put a lot of thought into this show Very optimistic to see where this goes now Also that droid is great fun to watch

While listening, I had the thought that Jude Laws character is in there to trick the kids into showing him to their home. They were apprehended by his 1st mate and we never saw what happened to/with him after they attacked him in the beginning of the first episode.Maybe they hashed it out and could be still working together.

I went into the show thinking it was going to be trash until I just saw the title of this video and decided to give it a try. I was genuinely surprised at how good the show was and it was a true adventure story.

Yeah, I'm holding off on watching this; for now. I don't trust disney, so I think I'll wait until the season's over, and I've heard the general opinions about it, before I check it out for myself. Glad you're enjoying it, so far, especially after...that other show; which I will not even dignify, by referring to it by name.

I feel the "treasure" of At Attin has nothing to do with credit or physical currency. I feel the planet has a secret that has gone into legend as a treasure. I'm going to guess an actual temple or ancient device the people on the planet have been tasked to hide from the galaxy. This series had me interested more in the first episode than another I will not name. It was pure FUN. It reminded me of the Goonies, Monster Squad and E.T. days when kids could just have adventures. It's very 70's/80's to me. I can't wait to know more from this story in the SW galaxy.
