It was really demoralizing when FC skip was found and I realized that I'd never be able to compete at the top if I couldn't master that daunting skip. Fling really did save the category. This video does a great job in highlighting just how vital this skip was for the longevity of Dark Story.

Yeah I really wanted to include the screenshots of reactions to Fling. A year of living in the "hell" of FC Skip really got to people clearly and the actual reactions to that do a hell of a lot more than I could ever speak to. Of course you know all of this, The King of Fling :)

This is incredible. My fear of inability halted me from trying speedrunning, and I eventually just threw that away and joined in, and it is amazing to get to see the lengths that the runners go to to find and get the fastest time they can. Seeing some of these skips I didn't even really know much about is amazing! Awesome Dawn😭

Wow, Dark Story has come a long way. That gravity trick to slip between kill planes is crazy. Man, I wish we'd had a kill plane viewer back then. Also I didn't realize just how close the goal ring in Final Chase is to the start. I guess that means the level does a big loop around. Now I'm curious what the intended route through the level looks like viewed from above.

Yeah, it would be a really weird path for sure. The funny part is this skip is really only possible because of the part where you go down the really long gravity tubes at the end. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had enough height for it.

@@DawnSRC I hated that part so much when speedrunning Final Chase. Those gravity tubes are so finicky, especially where they join together. They seem to almost randomly decide there is a tiny gap there and you lose all your speed or go flying off. Easily my least favorite level, and having it come at the very end of the run did it no favors.

Ironically there's a skip in this that I actually need to do just to be able to "get to the goal" because a certain spring on main path when hit ALWAYS crashes my game (and entire windows session) Yes, it's probably a driver thing but it only happens with that ONE spring in this ONE stage.

Wow… So someone made the near IMPOSSIBLE accomplishment, only for most around the community to be completely crestfallen and some even furious. Great job on breaking the record with an easier strat, but the video made it seem Katie4 nearly ruined this particular category by just succeeding what thought couldn’t be done! If there comes a time someone has done what everyone has once considered was unachievable and that said achievement has stayed unbreakable since: challenge it all you want, but don’t treat it like the guy who did the impossible committed an atrocity! Well, assuming we're talking about FC Skip here. At the mid level Dark Story was pretty much the same as always. But for runners that wanted to look beyond that, their dreams were basically dashed before they had a chance to even attempt it. I'm going to quote Savac who commented on the video and is a top level Dark Speedrunner now but was coming up during the FC Skip Era. "It was really demoralizing when FC skip was found and I realized that I'd never be able to compete at the top if I couldn't master that daunting skip. Fling really did save the category. This video does a great job in highlighting just how vital this skip was for the longevity of Dark Story."
