Great episode, the right guest for the band. I'm Australian, and adults would always say to me as a teen "You like rock and metal, check out Slade".

Fantastic chat! Love Slade! My band has been flying the Slade/Sweet appreciation flag for years. The world needs more stomping rock n roll bands these days!

A band I got into later on (like Grand Funk)...My three fave albums are Slayed, Slade In Flame & Beginnings. Old New Borrowed And Blue & Rogues Gallery are also good ones. Then kinda 'second tier' albums: Nobody's Fools, The New Victoria, Slade Alive! & Play It Loud. Live At The BBC is a quality live collection, and the collection B Sides for 'rarities'

I'm actually not huge on Slade Alive! - it's OK (that's why I had it as a '2nd tier' Slade album). Pales in comparison to let's say Humble Pie's Performance Rockin' the Fillmore. "Hear Me Calling" is high energy but I prefer Ten Years After's live version. I actually prefer Live At The BBC (1969 - 1972) for live Slade. 1975's Live At The New Victoria is also not bad...The debut covers two Steppenwolf tracks & a Zappa tune. If I'm honest I knew absolutely nothing about this band until maybe a couple of years ago. Back in the day NOBODY I knew ever mentioned this band. Hendrix manager Chas Chandler also managed them...I don't really like many of the bands most influenced by Slade (like Kiss, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister) so this is one case where for me the 'original' is the best. I've seen some claim that The Stones' "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" 'borrows' from Slade...
@parishofrock29633 ай бұрын
Whilst I really like Slade Alive, I know what you mean. For me the go to Slade live albums are Slade Alive 2 & Slade On Stage. Maybe because this is the era I saw them live. The recent Reading record is also pretty darn good.
