This is great info, I have a 73 Scamp 225 here in the UK. I have just found a factory 2 barrel manifold - the engine is all factory - what carb would you recommend? Thanks - Chris.

Don't care what the nay-sayers comment, when I was young had a couple of these and for the backyard mechanic with a set of craftsman tools standard sizes you could get rebuild carb kits, do point's, total tune-up, fuel pump all this was easy access; I know it wasn't high on power, just miss the simplicity of those early days!!!!

That is awesome I love how your trying little things and writing it all down that is so cool. I feel in love with the slant because my first car was a 1979 Dodge Aspen with a 225 super six and even though it was gutless I still loved it and since then I have owned one of some sort from the 170 to the 225 anyway love your channel already and I am only 8 minutes into it.

Good stuff! I had a slant 6 72 Dart as my first car from 94-07 but recently picked up a 76 Scamp also with the 225. I'm enjoying the research phase and deciding what all I'm going to do to it. It's a 60k mile original with barely any rust. So far I've just replaced the vinyl top and have rebuilt the rear suspension. Thinking maybe front suspension rebuild and front disc's next. What do you have for front brakes?
@SlantDailyGarage2 жыл бұрын
I used a 1974 front brake set up. It bolts right on with upper control arms plus I can just get parts straight from any parts store.

What did the Holley run in the quarter good video
@SlantDailyGarage2 жыл бұрын
That holley carb that is the 350cfm is what I believe you are looking for I went as fast as a 17.50-ish I believe. I am going off the top of my head. Now remember this is not a quarter mile fire breather. The idea here is Freeway speeds 70mph-80mph long long drives.

I range form 18-22 MPG with the set up now. The around town driving is what hurts the MPG. The 2.76 gear is not terrible in town with the loose converter but that has a direct influence on MPG. But I drive it because I can and not to many people can say that now a days.

What speed do you need to be going on the highway? 'I've had a few 225 slant valiants' and it wasn't an issue keeping up with traffic'if anything it was more like could the traffic keep up with me?.
@theeoddments9602 жыл бұрын
What are your thoughts on head porting on the slant 6? Seems to me like the head is one of the weak links of any American straight 6 but I haven’t seen people prioritize it. I’m sure it’s got a terrible bowl area and casting bumps up the wazoo that could be cleaned up to squeeze some extra power.
@SlantDailyGarage2 жыл бұрын
The only thing I do really is back cut the valves and do some small bowl clean up. That gets the biggest gain for very little work.
@timothykeith13672 жыл бұрын
The compression increase by itself will wake up a slant six. The stock CR is barely above 7:1 when you actually measure it.

A fellow here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6aakKCXZcyKitE using double exhaust manifold, 1 Aussie as yours but the other is the original truncated to keep the intake manifold heated by the exhaust. What do you think?
@SlantDailyGarage2 жыл бұрын
I have used my set up and also a set up like yours. I do prefer using what you have as that will heat up the intake manifold for better drivability. When it comes to performance and is one better than the other????? I never noticed a difference in performance at all. I went with this setup because the fuel injection is coming soon.
