The Oscars haven't been on any ordinary persons radar for some time now. As can be seen by their ratings being at an all time low as people just tuned out as we got tired of being subjected to watch their smug self congratulatory behaviors and witness them trying to outdo each other with their virtuosity signaling. To quote Ricky Gervais "They are in no position to lecture the public about anything". Remember when they used to do Oscars and the stars actually remembered who they worked for and understood their assignment as entertainers and we all would watch spellbound as they artfully and sometimes playfully ponied up to the stage wearing something glamourous and other worldly. They stood gracefully composed accepting their oscar at the podium without subjecting us to some emotional outburst or outrageous ranting behavior. Their acceptance speeches were articulate, short and sweet and then bowing out gracefully with award in hand and some kind of gratitude they would gracefully make their exit because they knew and understood the basic concept that they got that earned place on stage because a lot of us bought their movie tickets to forget about real life for awhile and we successfully funded and supported their movie antics. They were and still are strictly entertainers who make their money off of us, the working class people and our hard earned dollars fund their movie successes. Now they are so far removed and no longer understand the assignment at all. Instead they mistakenly think that that podium exists for them to rant and rave and hold us hostage to their vanity whims of more attention-seeking antics, after all we must love watching them, because we bought all the movie tickets that made them number one. However, without a movie script in hand to read that might at least give us the illusion that they actually have something smart to say help them with their insatiable need to stay relevant as they throw their tantrum and disdain at all us poor stupid peasants. Their tirades that lecture and insist to us all how we should be thinking, and voting now have caused all of us sensible folks to lose interest. This is now just a dying trope that temporarily got a little buzz and life temporarily breathed back into it when Will Smith did this action. Chris Rock has made it known that he in no way will seek any legal action or press any charges. And when Chris Rock stated out loud"That was the greatest night in television" Sadly It made me wonder if that was what the folks at the Oscars were desperately hoping that we would buy into. The power of our remotes in hand that changed the channel and said "next" is the true currency of what they got in this transaction instead. At the end of the day in our five second attention span, we have already forgotten this ever happened.

Wow! There is a lot here - I had to read it a couple of times ;). It certainly felt different when I was younger and that likely has to do with life perspectives.
