To all the people who comment about the colors you were seeing these in white light for filming. The stage lighting has colors and changes throughout the different acts so the costumes will look entirely different under stage lighting. Trust me you will Wowed when you see them in performance.

yes that would be most interesting ... I think a lot of the costumes are drycleaned or hand washed gently as they simply wouldn't last in any rough machine.

i think its beautifully made but im not a big fan of the hot pinks being used with the dark lilacs and then also the green, and the white all throught this true lavender/lilac colour story. also the leaves arent my favourite placement either although i do love the idea of them. of course its beautifully made and i obviously couldnt do better but i feel like the pallette doesnt make sense, like maybe the pink skirt should have been a dark purple, or the purple from underneith or something very pastel pink, and the leaves down the bodice should have been more vertical imo. it just feels very distant and mish mashed, not coherant even imo

Not a popular opinion here but I really like this costume. It has many aspects of costuming all rolled into one. Function, aesthetic, the beauty and practicality issues that had to be contested, all culminating in this dress is just amazing.
@PAULPLUS-tk7op7 жыл бұрын
I don´t like the leaves on the bodice; they look a bit cheap when looking closely, but I supose it´s not necessary to have Haute Couture finishings there. Anyways from far away they look good and thats enough.

I'm always impressed by the intricate and complex designs that go into performing arts like this. When they say "Lilac Fairy," they make a Lilac Fairy costume. LOL I also love that they go with different types of lilac and shading, to emphasize the character more. I love the different lilacs on top of the leaves, very reminiscent of nature as well, as a fairy ought to be. :)
@davidlogan4329 Жыл бұрын
Beautifully designed costume for the Lilac Fairy. It was fascinating to hear from the costume maker about the challenges in constructing the tutu. Also wonderful was to hear about the needs of the dancer for the costume so that it can be moved in easily and also be comfortable to wear. It's not often so many different viewpoints are put forward. Well done Royal Ballet!

I imagine that the reason the Royal Ballet uses these certain bright pinks and magentas in the tutu that seem to sort of "clash" from close up is because, of course, the audience will see the ballerina from quite a far distance, and so the colors will probably be much more soft and muted. The stage lighting also plays a huge part in showing off the colors. I have never actually seen a performance of the Sleeping Beauty in person myself, but l think that from the audience, with the distance and the lighting. I do agree the costume colors and design are not the most attractive from up close, but l think one of the reasons the Royal Ballet changed the design for the Lilac Fairy tutu was that the original design, the one that Marianela Nunez wore in a KZbin video would have been too muted from the stage as it was made with a very soft lilac color that probably wouldn't stand out enough from the audience. Again, l have never seen a performance in person, so if any of you has, tell me what you think!

How is the bodice attached? I have seen tutus where they are separate and connected with elastic and buttons and ways where the bodice is sewn on. Which is the correct way?
@herrbrucvald63767 жыл бұрын
Don't like the reddish lower layer. Why isn't the whole costume lilac, like the underside? We want glittering lilac---the color. To me the Lilac Fairy refers to a color, not so much the flower. But it is a beautiful costume. Similarly, no one ever makes the Sugar Plum Fairy's costume in the light plum color of an actual frosted Christmas sugar plum.
@stachamoon58206 жыл бұрын
you need to have more than JUST lilac to look good on stage. it's like a monotone film, you need the lights and darks for it to work right? Same with this.
@noblesetsentimentales2 жыл бұрын
No, the fairy's name definitely refers to the flower. Petipa called her "la Feé des lilas" because of the flower's significance in Russian folklore. The original tutu was pale and decorated with lots of lilac flowers in different shades of pink and purple.

I would think that a company such as Dior would sponsor costumes. If I had a company, that would be an effort for sure. It's important, I think, for accomplished Couture and Bespoke enabled brands to sponsor the arts, such as theater, as a way of giving further to the evolution of fashion into that sector. The costumes are great, but I just envision them to be so much better for future generation wearers. With the evolution of fabrics, there is surely a way of translating a museum quality couture look onto a more performance-wearable theater creation. Doing so would elevate the sales, standard of venues, and marketability through a "COMING SOON" local exhibit. Also, this type of exhibit would raise the anticipation of said theater event to a greater level! This, I believe is the future that fashion should be offering theater productions. It's a WIN WIN!! I'm KEVIN NAPIER, and that's MY 2 CENTS!

The colours don’t go together,you should have used different shades of purple and silver,no leaves to those cheap looking flowers,use hot stones for the tutu,and a dark shade of purple for the top,and may be a type of tiara,with lots of gems,and for the sleeves,lose them and put a flower sleeve,thicker,just two lines of lilac lilacs for hair you could add flowers intertwined with a braid-bun(a bun with braids that come form the hair line)if you don’t put a tiara
