The 1959 Volvo 544 has been sandblasted so now it's time to have a look at what we even have. There is quite a bit of rust work needed which is going to dictate how we go about this build. Before Bad Chad and Doug dive into the Volvo, we want to go over the 1933 Dodge and show what Nathan has built for a gas pedal 👏

Hey Team Hiltz , interesting video this evening. Nate did a great job on the designing and building and installing the gas pedal and adjusting the play in the clutch .Now onto the gas tank and the battery installation , It was great of Chad to briefly interview Nate and he provided the viewers with his work related experience and his children. The Humid Weather is really bothering Doug and he was smart to turn on the exhaust fan and Chad opened the garage door to pull out the stale air from the grinders and etc. Looking forward to hearing and seeing the 1933 Dodge Race Car fire up . and drive.

I have been around people like Nathan all my life and continue to be amazed by how they can look at a problem and solve it with very little time and or effort. When you see them work its so obvious what they are doing but until you watch you are stumped while they (Nathan) just work it out in there head then make it. Love learning from people like that. Chad you do the same thing with body work. Trial and error is most times better than book learning. I hope to come visit some day

I've done similar to what Nathan has done on the pedal/linkage setup. If gives you a greater sense of satisfaction when you do it yourself and it works well. Also if something goes wrong you know how to fix it.

I helped a friend build hot rods and with work on 4wds and started on a couple of rods of my own. 29:30 Chad- This happened to me a couple of months back, same situation. Cutting a floor, and a piece of thick bracing underneath that was at the perfectly wrong angle for the grinder's rotation. The disc caught, shattered, jumped and filleted half of the top of my pointer finger- right thru my glove. You're right- be careful, but "it happens".

Here's an idea for the leg pipes that would solve a lot of problems: use 3 pieces of straight pipe for the straight section under the door. It's easy to weld mounts to pipe so you can arrange them however you like and they'll stay there and not sag (unlike flex pipe). You can also slash cut the tips, and since you're using flex pipe up front, you can rigid mount them to the frame, maybe add a heat shield so you don't bake the floor, and since they can be positioned 'just so' maybe you can arrange them so they don't burn legs. Personally I'd stagger the length of the straight pipes to make the overall length of the pipes equal, I think that would be a neat hot rod touch.

One ongoing battle or disagreeing comments is non completion and those who quickly defend this point as being an attack against Chad and crew. Just relax and don’t be afraid of channel watchers to have an opinion of this nature. I will speak for myself, I like this crew and the work they do as it is something we do lots of as a hobby for the last 25 years ! Many comments are something that may have a positive input on the success of the channel . Sometime the quick defending is blind ignorance of what is being said . For someone to say, I would like to see a completed project is their opinion and a valid one. Not everything is designed to be an insult and let’s not make it one. Someone may want the color red and not silver, is that an insult to those who want the other color. Is raising the roof higher or lower than some would like to see an insult…people, many times it’s just their participation or idea. Chad does an excellent job and explaining and taking us along on the journey , and I really enjoy that ! So does that mean if I say, it sure would be nice to see the Tbird or Hauler or Bugatti have some paint as a blatant insult and worthy of an uproar or the naysayers are ruining the day . If you are afraid of criticism, then that weakness is on you . By the way…excellent work on the pedals Doug !

I had a close friend who was Chad’s Spirit Brother. Skilled, using basic tools and somewhat crude methods, doing more with less and implementing classic parts, but his main motivation was artistic expression / design creativity and just plain winging it. Also, he despised tape measures like Chad and layout / planning during fabrication was painful to watch, especially when helping him. He was constantly thinking about his next two or three projects (often under the influence of something 🍺🥃🪴) and once he reached a point that the overall design was visible and substantially complete, it was like premature gratification 💦. He’d soon lose interest, move it to an open corner of the shop, or under a new tarp and start the next couple projects. 😅
