When I was 14 an older guy from my school gave me a 12" record of this song. He had won it from a local radio station. I told him I'd be interested in hearing it. So he gave it to me before school one morning. When I asked when he wanted it back he said he didn't want it back. He said it wasn't even music. It was just noise. I loved the visceral reaction the Slits had on people and I loved their music even more. This record made me a lifelong fan. 🎉

Extremely pleasantly surprised by how good and original their music is. They are definitely one of a kind.

What gave you the idea that it only came out in Japan?
@Psergiorivera4 жыл бұрын
The album was only officially released in 1981 in Japan. Their record company only authorized an international release due to poor album sales from the first album “Cut”. It only became available in the US after their Peel Session was bootlegged.

I hate how you say “used to” bc you’re too lazy to explore modern punk. Every genre now has more versatility then back then, not less. EVERY ONE. Because as they expand in popularity, there’s more cases like The Slits where a small group of friends somewhere want to do Punk but in their own way. Every genre has it, if you genuinely think things were more versatile then you’re insane. You couldn’t get a record out as a nobody, even if you did if it wasn’t pushed it wouldn’t sell. It cost a huge amount of money and a lot of studios didn’t wanna take that chance on an artists debut, especially for a new genre at the time like punk. You had to go physically BUY A RECORD to even find out if you LIKED IT OR NOT. Maybe listen at the record store if the spots were open lmao but since the 80s it’s been nothing but cassettes and CDs, then iTunes and eventually streaming. Someone who had to go out and buy this record just to discover The Slits, can instead have the luxury I had, where years ago I was watching some documentary on the early days of punk and found this song and checked it out myself. It took half a second and was free of effort or payment, and music listeners today are more versatile. Look at my channel, I don’t even do Punk I do Hip Hop lmao but I have at least a few records I love from every genre, but that was so rare in the 60s - 90s. You pretty much picked your group and scene, and stuck to it. Now there’s a million people like me who take advantage of the versatility and are grateful. Because it logically makes zero sense that music would regress and have less artists trying new things, AS it grows and experiments constantly. Some small obscure country with no record stores just wouldn’t know The Slits exist back in the day, maybe theyd see them on TV once if they were lucky. Now even that country probably has plenty of people with iPhones, who can find this new stuff on their own. On top of everything else lmao like Punk Rock isn’t supposed to be versatile. MUSIC is, which is why there’s a million genres that tackle different sounds and styles. Even still there’s usually sub genres, there’s really just no excuse for these people of every genre to pop up and say how dead it is now. Ironically they’re the ones driving the axe through these genres heads 💀
