I was fortunate to be able to do this hike a couple of years ago when my son was managing a resort in Borrego. It was very difficult for a 70 year old woman and you have to be a contortionist at times and not have a problem with claustrophobia.At that time going up a steep sliding sands hill was the exit if you don't go back the way you came in.

I've done it a couple of times there are some narrow spots

Yep. Tough/impossible to keep a backpack on in places!

Cooler in my experience, as your in the shadows a lot.
