8000 degrees Cumulative Angle is a method of checking for error, such that a moderate amount of large errors or a large amount of small errors can both trigger the fault condition. The computer measures the difference between desired and actual phase angle each revolution for a set amount of time and adds it all up. If the total doesn't get to 8000 over the period, no error is set. It's a pretty common way to detect errors with microcontrollers if it is expected a value is going to measure slightly off fairly regularly, but not consistently. Edit: it's effectively a crude method of noise cancellation on the measured value, requiring much less instruction cycles than "proper" noise cancellation.

Regarding the engine oil seeming over-full, I have one of these engines in a 2002 Outback. The dipstick level seems highly dependent on how level the surface is that the car is parked on. I figured it out after changing the oil in the garage, then ckecked it the next week in the diveway to find it over-full (the car was on a slight uphill slope in the garage, and a slight downhill outside).

I keep noticing a trend- The more these new control systems depend on the engine's oil- quality, viscosity, cleanliness, temperature to actuate components- the more touchy & expensive things get. Even with certain diesel engines, where it takes oil to operate the fuel injectors- they have problems. Why not just make a remote reservoir, use an ATF or DOT4 brake fluid- to actuate all their gizmos? Leave the engine's oil alone, out of the picture entirely. Is your clutch or are your brakes associated with the engine's oil? No. An internal combustion engine is not an automatic transmission- stop trying to combine the two. Hydraulic lifters- ok. Cams- no.
@moconnell6634 жыл бұрын
Perhaps they should tap off the power steering system, it's hydraulic and relatively clean/consistent. I've seen people use them to power aftermarket hydraulic gizmos. I replaced a head gasket in that H6 engine (B9 Tribeca). Hardest part of the job was getting the torque converter to seat fully on the input shaft (I didn't have the Subaru TQ locking tool when I pulled the engine. That was a great performing engine but I HATE Subaru for their suck-butt head gasket issues.

Clogged oil screens cause these codes. Take them out of all banjo bolts. especially if you have turbo.

So would a shortened diagnostic route be to change all the dorman parts first? Then see if you still have DTCs
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics4 жыл бұрын
Well that would be a $150 guess that I would have to eat if I was wrong. I always follow protocol: diagnose before throwing parts, no matter how cheap the part is :)

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics You're right because my diagnosis of your diagnosis doesn't cost anything at all.

They should really make it law that parts go through a more sophisticated testing phase before they release it to the public. Idk maybe its common sense to me to test your product before u release it to the public.

Cant understand whats so complicated about a solenoid, its just wound wire and a core plunger, bad materials or poor QA?
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics4 жыл бұрын
The specs have to match the OEM exactly...otherwise ECM is not happy!
@arsinoeivlostprincess42284 жыл бұрын
Rather than throw it away would you do an ohmns test, I assume it has a coil and a plunger see if you can find out what's wrong with the Dorman part. Might be interesting.

I work at the 2nd largest Auto Parts retailer. I am the one that checks the incoming part shipments 5x a week. Honestly, Literally, this 1 parts store receives hundreds of previously sold Dorman parts in. I also check off all returns going back to our DC. From a visual standpoint, Dorman is minimal. Our 1 wall, top to bottom,has 60' of full shelving of Dorman Parts. Set aside the returns and questionable quality, It is incredible how much is returned as new, yet visually obvious the part HAS been installed, or processed as a WARRANTY return, and returning to the manuf. We deal with most individual 2-3 man shops yet also several dealers. There is no difference. truly. Defending Dorman, nah, just my observations. Great Diagnostic video Ivan, as usual sir.

You're right. Dorman is total junk. Maybe a good question to start with is "Did you use aftermarket replacement parts, by chance?". If Dorman, replace - job done! Solid diagnosis. Good to see what's going on using the Varis.
