Salamander Stoves -- Very nice product. Your multi-tool is a fine solution. An option to offer would be twisted split basket handles on the doors ... for an additional fee, of course. They will stay far cooler to the touch. One more suggested option might be a heat shield surrounding the back three sides from ash pan up to cooktop; and maybe higher at the back. Held in place by four 3-4cm high-temperature bolts through the corners of each of the three faces. This will produce an in-at-the-bottom and out-the-top convection air heating process AND slightly decrease stand-off requirements of the stove. I did this to an antique parlor stove and it worked phenomenally well, so well in fact that I am surprised that it isn't standard.

Thank you for your feedback! We do actually offer some heat shields for our Hobbit stove already! It's a great idea, and you're completely correct! This significantly reduces the distances that need to be maintained around the stove. You can view this option here: salamanderstoves.com/product/small-stove-heatshields/ and read more about it in this article that we've written: salamanderstoves.com/how-much-room-do-you-need-around-a-small-wood-burning-stove/ Thank you very much for your interest in our small stoves! Your suggestion about the handles is a great idea too! We'll be sure to let you know if we ever happen to make any design changes.

We have recently purchased the standard version and couldn’t be happier. This thing is amazing. We are still learning to control it though. One piece of information I couldn’t find anywhere is the target temperature. There are many conflicting opinions on that and it would be great to hear from the manufacturer.

Hello, Thank you for your kind words! :) We would recommend operating the stove so that the single wall flue has a temperature between approximately 140 and 220 degrees celsius. This is shown on the magnetic stove thermometer which is available on our website. :) I hope this helps, but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions! Alex

Great little UK designed stove and nice video, thanks. I would like to ask please what is the maximum size of log this can use and if it does allow overnight burning. Thanks.
@Salamanderstovesuk
@Salamanderstovesuk 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The maximum log size is 8"/200mm - that is the optimum size for stacking, but it can take slightly larger logs. Yes! You can shut the stove down overnight, but you will be left with embers in the morning, rather than roaring flames. You can then pop some more kindling and fuel on to get it going again. Lekto offer some good long-burning eco logs for overnight use. :)

Great looking and functional stove. I'm wondering if you make a model, or will be making a model that can be wall mounted. I live in a 8x20 tiny home on wheels, and floor space is at a premium. Maybe I'm dreaming in color thinking I can get a wall mounted unit that can perform as well as a floor model? Thanks for any input you may have.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your kind words! I'm afraid that we do not offer a wall mounted stove, and we currently do not have any plans to manufacture one like this. We would recommend siting the stove on a raised platform. That way, you can retain some storage space beneath the stove. :) Thank you for your interest though, and if you have any questions about this, then please feel free to contact us! Alex

I built a shelf for it and it works great. The legs have holes so it can be bolted to the shelf for safety. A piece of granite would be ideal, but I wasn’t able to find one so I cut it out of a very large porcelain tile.

How much does it weigh? And what is the difference between The Hobbit Stove, and The Hobbit SE? Thanks!
@Salamanderstovesuk
@Salamanderstovesuk Жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, Thank you for your questions! The Hobbit stove and the Hobbit SE both weigh 47kg. The SE just stands for smoke exempt, and it's the DEFRA-exempt version of our stove that can be used to burn wood in a smoke control area. These tend to be more urban places, such as London or Manchester for example, but you can check to see if you live in a smoke control area by contacting your local council. One difference is that there is a small, constant supply of air going into the firebox of the SE in order to comply with regulations. This means that the stove is slightly harder to shut down overnight, but this is not something we would recommend doing, as this is an inefficient way to burn your fuel and can lead to build-ups of soot in your chimney. The only other difference is that the SE can be installed into a 5" or 6" diameter liner, whereas the standard Hobbit can only be used with a 6" liner. Aside from these two differences, both stoves are exactly the same. :) Hope this helps! Alex

I have one of these it is a great stove , the only down side is getting the baffle back in , it is a nightmare
@Salamanderstovesuk
@Salamanderstovesuk Жыл бұрын
Hello, and thank you for your feedback! Yes, the baffle can be a little bit fiddly to take in and out! We have a video that clearly demonstrates how to do this here: vimeo.com/759800846 There is a specific way to do this, but once mastered, it can be done in a couple of minutes. :) If you need to remove the baffle for the chimney to be swept and for the stove to be cleaned, then we would advise using your nearest recommended chimney sweep, which you can find here: salamanderstoves.com/authorised-dealers/ Your chimney sweep will remove the baffle and the bricks for cleaning and they'll put them all back in place for you, so you shouldn't really need to ever do this again! Many sweeps will service the stove for you too. Alternatively, you could also use a length of flue pipe that incorporates an inspection door, which will make sweeping the chimney much easier. The baffle will still need to be removed for cleaning periodically, but sweeping the chimney more regularly will mitigate any build-ups. I hope this helps! :)

Hi Conrad, Thanks for leaving a comment! I just wanted to clarify that this video is not intended to be a review and we have not labelled it as a review. We are the manufactures of this product and we have created this video to demonstrate how the stove can be operated. Mark designed the stove himself. :) It is not possible to provide a specific burn time, as this depends on a wide variety of factors, such as what fuel you are burning, how much fuel you are burning, the type of building that the stove has been installed into, as well as how big the room is, how well insulated this space is, what flue has been used to install the stove etc. etc. As a rough estimate, you can expect to refuel the stove every couple of hours. If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to reach out. :) Alex

Hello Esqurie, We offer a side boiler option for our Hobbit stove, which can be fitted on the left or right hand-side of the firebox. This will draw 1kW of heat, which can then be used to heat one 1kW radiator or two 0.5kW radiators. You could also connect this system to a non-pressurised shower, or a set of hot water taps! @@wilfredprins9718 Good afternoon Wilfred, It is possible for the boiler option to be retrofitted to the stove, but this is a very complicated procedure, and you take the risk of permanently damaging your stove. We do not recommend doing this, and you should only consider this option if you are experienced with metal work. If you would like me to send over the instructions on how to do this, then please just let me know your email address. You can also contact me via alex@salamanderstoves.com. But yes, it is best if you select this option when purchasing the stove, so that it can be factory-fitted by our team of experienced engineers. @@Salamanderstovesuk hi Alex, Thanks for the reply, I can do some metal work but I'm no expert. I thought maybe there were pre_casted locations for pipeworks. But indeed if the risk is to high. That's ok, if you would still like to review the instructions to see if this something that you would be happy to undertake, then please feel free to drop me an email and I'll get them sent over to you. :) There isn't any pre-casted locations for the pipes I'm afraid - each boiler is fitted by our engineers depending on the customer's specifications. The boiler can be fitted to the left-hand side or the right-hand side of the Hobbit stove, whereas it has to be fitted to the right-hand side of our Little Range due to the oven. There are no pre-casted locations as not everybody wishes to incorporate a boiler into their setup I'm afraid. I hope this helps, and hope you have a great rest of your day! :) Kind regards, Alex
