I like the beauty and simplicity of the Rustler 24. Doesn't even need winches. Timeless, retro sheer and overhangs. I wouldn't want an open transom, not interested in speed, just relaxing.

If you are looking form small sailboat you should definitely check antila yachts and northamn (and their maxus series) Both of them offer sailboats from 22 up to 33 feets with many options to customize your boat. They are relatively cheap and high quality.

I'm not sure those open transoms are such a great idea. If you beach your boat, you'll get waves rushing into your boat. (And you'll lose things out the back, while underway. )

Admittedly I have only watched a few boats so far, but I'm interested to know how the low stern acts in big seas and at anchor in bad weather or a following sea. I kind of get the feeling that they wouldn't be great? I have a 27 ft sailboat from the early 80's, and no doubt technology has come a long way since then, but it has high freeboard and a high back with self draining cockpit and even in heavy waves I haven't taken water over the side or stern. These boats seen more suited to a harbour. No lifelines either. Just curious. I'm probably missing something obvious haha.
@davidwild662 жыл бұрын
For the most part, these are fairly high performance day sailing boats. Comparing them to an early 80's boat is like comparing a thoroughbred race horse to a horse that pulls a cart...both do a job, but it's not the same job.

Please plan you camera moves. The boats are very nice but the cameraman flicks the camera too quickly from one view to the next. If you want to show a cooker then show the broad view and zoom in. Have a theme, for example: show the boat name, boat maker and price, cockpit view, bow view, underside view, inside view.

A lot of coin for the boats for their length. But they sat amazing. Quite a change from the 80's boats

Ballast the middle of the boat but sharply keel the mast and headsails from mast to bow. An even line from mast to stern This will improve speed and control in high wind.

Getting any boat is like getting a pet. To buy new, or rescue an older hull is a question. I for one would never support the continued use of fiberglass, carbon fiber or other non-biodegradable, non-recyclable materials in the manufacture of anything, especially boats. Aluminum, steel or wood, even ferrocement are suitable alternatives for any new design. I'm certain those who purchase new fiberglass hulls are of the same mentality as those who get their dogs from puppy farms.

Rustler, Carbo, and Cornish were clearly a superior value in form and function, other than that there was very little seen here I would take out to sea in any sort of weather. Some of the designs me appear as if their designers have or have had much or any practical experience afloat. One "bath tub" has no magnetic compass! Yo, ink boy, what happens when the battery fails and the digital compass takes a powder? Many of the hulls and rigs seem dangerously weak, fragile and/or unstable; perhaps these sorts might include manufacture's logos proudly displayed below their load water lines so as to render them more visible to the buying public when they turn turtle/capsize due their "keels" parting etc... Traditional small boat design concepts are traditional for good reasons. One's that include " K.I.S.S.", "Murphy's Law" and simple comforts In my opinion make for a better small boat value and a safer more enjoyable boating experience.

they are very wide and rare ive only seen 1 non dinhy multihull that was under 30 ft
@funtosail4 жыл бұрын
@@silaslambertsen5473 There are a lot of multihull manufactures out there with boats under 30 feet such as Corsair, Dragon Fly, etc. Was just interesting to see no multihulls at all. Still your "wide" note is a good one as one will see many multihulls at on-the-water shows where there is room for the big wide cats. For indoor shows the folding Corsair would work and smaller multihulls like Hobie, etc. I have heard manufactures say boat shows are a waste of money, so maybe the multihull manufactures just do not see the need to attend shows like these when their sales are doing great, why waste the money?
@silaslambertsen54734 жыл бұрын
@@funtosail I am from Denmark like dragonfly I've been to 5 boat shows only 1 of them had a dragonfly at it and it was a floating show about 50km from the factory I think it's the getting the boat there you can't really Truck cats or larger multihulls and sailing them takes a while.
@funtosail4 жыл бұрын
@@silaslambertsen5473 True but aren't Dragon Fly's trailerable? Width wise a monohull is good for trailer, if they are narrow, many are wide and require a special permit to transport. If a monohull has a fixed keel its sitting high on a custom trailer or that which can accommodate. I trailer my Corsair super easy as compared to any fixed keel monohull. Also the multihull is much lighter to trailer (no led in it). I know a lot about this as I run a sailboat shop and transport a lot of new and used sailboats, monohulls and keelboats. Seems to me I am told many European roads a very narrow. So folding tris not an issue, but of course wide cruising cats would sail to on-the-water show. I have been to on to water shows in the US, and there are almost as many multihulls and monohulls. As a business I was displaying my sailboats at a boat show and I was they only sailboat dealer there. Had all multihulls expect one monohull. So I guess shows are different in different regions/countries.
@silaslambertsen54734 жыл бұрын
@@funtosail in europe or denmark at least we have tons of those truck drivers that do big boats so you can easily get it around but there is no market for cats or trimarans cats are waaaaaaay to wide to fit in any harbour and the trimarans are too rare there are so few of them i've never seen a newer than 15 year old trimaran in the wild and the only reason to get one is performance because they are more expensive and have waaaayyyyyy less space inside but here folk who want performance dont buy a dragonfly they buy tricked out monohulls that fit in more with the norm and all experienced sailors here are in monohulls like a j70 or j80 those are super popular here but there are no multihulls they simply aren't here so no infrastructure for them and no familiarity and that is what most people buying a new boat want here. thats why a brand like arcona exists selling boat that are straight out of the 80s but with a few modern twists.
