Jonathan and Todd dive into Jackson Blue Spring in Marianna, Florida to explore a side passage called Parallel Line and see if they can fit through a really small restriction. It's another Blue World cave diving adventure!

Great video! Quick correction about the side passage you went in, it is actually called Young siphon. For Parallel Line, one had to jump again (to the left, upstream) once on the Young siphon line. At the end of Young siphon (where you turned th dive) there is a crack going vertically up, taking you back to the cavern, close to there the gold line starts.

"The water is so clear..." if you think about it the Millpond is just a giant spring run. I've done a few dives in JB, it is a difficult cave to enter, the sandy bottom with few workable pull points means you have to kick your way in which kills your gas. But man it is a pretty cave, I need to go back when I get my DPV cert.

I was trapped 5 hours binge watching these videos in my man cave. I became disoriented and confused from some form of intoxication about 3 hours in. I began to panic and used controlled breathing techniques I learned on here. I then hit the heated massage button on my custom lounge chair. My safety diver, (girlfriend), found me naked and unconscious with a spilled beer on the floor next to an empty bag of cheetos. She said my fingers and face had orange stains on them. She was able to fireman carry me to safety (bedroom). It seems I had become complacent and too comfortable and not recognizing the dangers of being alone in my man cave. Next time I will have a group with me and plenty of cheetos. Watching these videos, along with Free Solo, has given me the knowledge and confidence to flash my stair case and sit in my hot tub with zero fear. This has do to with years of experience and training. I'd first like to thank God. Then the two men who narrate these videos trapped in their own man caves. And finally, Alex Hanold, the human spider monkey.

For all diving, the frog kick should be what’s considered “normal”. Not the flutter. Reserve the flutter for those super rare occasions when you absolutely need power, and understand it comes at the sacrifice of efficiency and gas consumption.

@BlueWorldTV
@BlueWorldTV Жыл бұрын
Hey Simon, that's a fair assessment. I have gotten really into cave diving and I realize that we have been putting out a lot of cave diving episodes. For the next few months we are alternating back and forth with a cave episode and a wildlife episode. In June we are filming in Truk Lagoon, so it will be a bunch of wreck diving episodes. But keep in mind that we went for years and years with nothing but marine life and virtually nothing else. So we have covered so many topics. We had to expand into other things. We have done SO many shark episodes.

@@BlueWorldTV Thanks for your thorough reply! I understand your decision to move into cave diving for a change. Anyway, i would like to say i think its your storytelling + imagination that makes your content so great (not to forget all the knowledge that you bring). The animals doesnt necessarily have to be that interesting/flamboyant. Here is a list with inspiration for future episodes: Flashlight Fish, Pinnate Batfish, Longnose Butterflyfish, Fire Dartfish, Blacktip Grouper, Streaked Spinefoot. You could also share what your personal "pink-dragon"-fish is, like your top 10 most wanted fish to find and document.

Hi Jonathan, curious how you feel about ikelite vs nauticam housings if price isn't part of the equation. I see one of each in this video.
@BlueWorldTV
@BlueWorldTV Жыл бұрын
I have used Ikelite gear for many years and honestly it works great. An underwater housing has to do three things: 1. Keep the water out. 2. Provide a way to operate the buttons and knobs on the camera. 3. Provide a good optical interface to the water. Ikelite does all of those things well for a very reasonable price. The only major thing you gain with more expensive housings is 1. Smaller for travel and use. 2. Better depth rating (which doesn't make a difference to 95% of the divers including me).

I have some mildly technical questions: 1) the side passage also appeared to have a gold line, was it? Is it also referred to as a gold line? How do you differentiate the gold lines in a cave when briefing/debriefing? 2) what criteria are used to determine whether a side passage warrants its own line? Distance? Something worth seeing? Combinations of both? 3) is there a way to mark what appears to be a side tunnel to say ‘don’t bother, nothing to see here?’ so as not to waste future cave explorers time? I’m guessing updating some official map but maybe there is also something in the cave you do? Thanks for the awesome video!!
@BlueWorldTV
@BlueWorldTV Жыл бұрын
The side passage is not Gold line in this case, although in many cases, popular side passages get the gold line treatment, if they are popular. Side passages (once discovered) always get some form of line, because it's kind of bragging rights to be the first person to put line in a new passage. I have never heard of anyone trying to mark a side passage as bad in the cave, but cave divers talk to each other and share the good and the bad side passages. The popular side passages are usually marked with a pair of line arrows on the main line. You tie into the main line between the two arrows, and when you come back out, you arrive on the main line with the arrows pointing the way out.
