I quite enjoyed watching this one which I wasn't expecting I think the game should lean less with "normal" cards, you know the ones that are just "deal direct damage, apply a debuff" "gain block" and lean more to cards that are related to the board

Yeah, I'm honestly not sure that the cards or energy are even necessary in the first place, just build a "deck" of tiles that fill into the board, and have a limited number of swipes/swaps. If your game is going to have a gimmick that sets it apart, at least lean into it and build everything around it, like peglin and dungeon clawler do

They way they handled cards and upgrades is a bit weird to me. It feels like the two should always be interacting somehow. Like, "Deal X damage to a random enemy twice" where x is the number of swords you get. Then its also weird that they don't do more with the board, like starting out with blockers that can be removed and being able to add and remove tiles, kinda like luck be a landlord.

Getting rid of the match costs and requiring a card to start a match would be interesting. It could add a lot of variability in matches (like matching two types of things, matching a different thing every step, only destroying every second matched thing, or matching things exactly two spaces apart), without completly changing the balance of the game for the entire run. It would also make basic attack cards quite important to most decks, which would be rather unique in deckbuilders.

The focus attack of the hydra despite being set up as a mega move is just worse in every way to the normal attack, literally benefits the player. You could in to turns attack twice for 16 total, or focus for a turn to do 12 damage where if that’s disrupted you get stunned instead for a turn lol.

For a second I thought this is inspired by a very old Android game, "Dungeon Raid". I still play it whenever I am bored, despite it not being playable without the APK and some tweaks anymore. I think you'd really enjoy it, too

It remotely is! I released a game in 2012 called WarGames: WOPR which was inspired by Dungeon Raid. This is the next iteration on those mechanics :D

The thing with this genre is that it's easy to develop around when you have a main mechanic idea (like the match-3 here) and it's easy to add lot of replayability to them, so I can't really be mad for indie devs going the safe route with these

The amount of representation this has to Slay The Spire is unreal 3 energy 5 draw hand 4 atk and 4 def cards in starding hand unplayable, ethereal Shop has 3 relic, 3 potions, and cards(admittedly different number of them), upgrade instead of removal, probably costs more Map of regular, boss, random event, and campfire The UI layout is also remarkably similar. interesting...

Ah, it's got the match 3 mechanic like Hell Girls. Interesting. Yea, I'm more into match 3s like Huniepop, Mirror and Wish. A new game just came out that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED called Hero Emblems II. After playing it for 60 hours, I can say, that that game is one of the BEST match 3 games I have played in a LONG time. IT WAS SO GOOD! Be warned though, Hero Emblems is not for beginners, it's for veterans, and if you don't know anything about RPG mechanics, and match 3, and if you're not utilizing all the tools available to you, you're not going to be having a good time. This game does not hold your hand. These boss fights are 25-45 minutes each. This game is one of the best, RPG, Match 3, strategy games I've played in quite a long time, and I'm very sad to see it sitting at "mixed" just because people don't understand how to play the game correctly....There's isn't a problem with the difficulty, there's a problem with the game not explaining things well and players not utilizing all the tools available to them. But yea, as I said, played it for 60 hours and I LOVED it.

This game has a good baseline but the desing and the UI is horrible and whould be off putting to a lot of people (I played slay the spiar and that game IS bad looking just look at the 2. Game but It has good design and good UI so It tricks you into loving the game)
