@@bluexwave5930 That's something a lot of people say about the IQ. They make you do some test (i never did, so maybe I'm wrong. Correct me if so) that measure basic your general knowledge (math, language, etc.) but not your intelligence of something specific. I, for example, am not the smartest, but i learn fast and learned english basically by myself (school is quite bad at teaching it). I think of all the possibilities, about everything (i can see exactly the persons perspective). I'm good at understanding fast and thinking fast. (I'm really not flexing, i swear lol, I'm just saying what i, at least, think am goos at. Sorry if it seems like I'm being a jerk) (I'm not good at explaining, tho lmao. But basically, i consider my self quite good and intelligent) But definitively, i wouldn't have a high score at an IQ test. TL;DR: IQ tests don't really consider things like learning (fast learning) and things like that. It overall consider your knowledge than your intelligence (no, knowledge is not really intelligence, but this is already too long, I'm not explaining it).

This video leaves A LOT out. A pretty interesting tidbit regarding Sidis, is that he was EXTREMELY upset with his life. William James Sidis was born in the big apple, on April fools day, 1898. He was practically immediately recognized as a true genius, learning to speak at 6 months, able to read at the same level as an adult at a year and a half, and able to use a typewriter at just 2 years. When most of us were 2 we were still figuring out how to not crap our pants. Sidis graduated from Harvard at age 9 as a linguist, and obtained a masters degree in mathematics just two years later. Sidis gave lectures on mathematics, and by the time he was an adult, he had obtained 7 different majors and was able to speak 40 languages! Sidis literally predicted black holes in his book _The Animate and the Inanimate._ Sounds like a ridiculously intelligent and ridiculously successful guy right? Well under the hard enamel always lays the soft pulp. Sidis' parents were the cavity in this analogy. They were both massively controlling and neglectful, making sure every aspect of Sidis' life was seen by the public. When they realized who their son was they made sure to push him to the limit. His parents didnt want a son, they wanted a _genius._ They pushed him into the limelight from a very young age, and eventually drove him to run away. Sidis decided at age 24 that enough was enough, and ran way from his parents and the media. In order to avoid detection, he used countless pseudonyms, and changed his location often. He was driven away by a society that ridiculed and pressured him. His intelligence was a curse to him above all else, preventing him from making social connections, and forcing him into a life of seclusion and depression. Even having the gift of superhuman intelligence, and the potential to be one of the most successful individuals in the world, could not change the fact that he was unhappy. Sidis died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Boston in 1944, alone, and with no family. He was 46 years old.

There’s obviously geniuses in these sports that have proved it by being incredible, such as Michael Jordan in basketball. I'd consider it a type of abuse if not physically. It is up to you to become who you are today, your parents are to only give you guidance and put you on the correct paths, but not forcing you. My mom is against strict parenting. She raised me with teachings, guidance, examples. She smokes cigarettes in front of me since I was kid and she taught me it is bad for your health and once you're addicted it is hard to stop. So unlike most teens in my high school who smoked and drank alcohol, I didn't. As for your points in helping classmates I'm going to give you an example why everything is up to you and not your parents: I moved into a new country with my mom where people speak french and german mainly. I learned german but never learned french in my entire life while everyone in the class already learned all their years of elementary school. My mom has no knowledge of french either so she can't help with it. But I dedicated myself. Ended up being the best in french class within a year and my classmates need my help despite having spent 6 years learning.

He never had a child hood or any social life really just learning from various experts, his parents and people he's being bragged to by his parents. I did some research and this is just completely false. Sidis was an incredibly smart man and a tortured soul. His sister reported to biographers that he had an IQ "between 250 and 300." Which is probably why OP settled at 275 (or probably came across a bad source with that figure). The other figure that is thrown around is 254, but this is in regards to a New York Civil Servant Test.placement (which is not a good score). Helena Sidis made a lot more outrageous claims about William such as him "being able to learn any language in a day" and "have learned every language in the world." Besides the fact we aren't even sure how many languages exist today, it takes the average person hundreds of hours of study to have fluency in languages similar to their native one. Don't get me wrong here. William Sidis was a child prodigy and was unfortunately shunned by many of his peers for his advanced intellect and political beliefs. I encourage anyone reading this to look into his life
@5eoddities7653 жыл бұрын
@ctag I did and I won't apologize
@aaronlandry39343 жыл бұрын
Well, a problem with these outrageous claims of his IQ is that the IQ test works by having a class of random people and the average is set to 100 with 200 being 100% correct answers. This means that it’s impossible to score above a 200, unless you staple your own questions to the exam and get extra points, but this also means that if the classroom is full of Albert Einsteins, Albert Einstein’s IQ will be 100 and you’d have the same result if you had a room full of Jake Pauls.
@5eoddities7653 жыл бұрын
@@aaronlandry3934 From what I understand, the worst part about IQ tests is not a matter of the room but about the design of the test, what it measures, and other factors. Most IQ tests measure something studied as "crystalized intelligence" this is just memory recall (i.e. remembering facts and details). Besides all of the more nuanced intelligences, "fluid intelligence" (i.e. processing new information to find new solutions) is rarely measured. Many folks in the comments also factor discovery as a measure of intelligence. Neanderthals know a fraction of what any high school graduate knows, but their individual ability to process information and study differences in forrests to understand where they were far surpasses modern day explorers. Leonardo Da Vinci came up with inventions which predate some basic concepts. At the end of the day, IQ is only a finite measure of an incredibly infinite amount of items
@aaronlandry39343 жыл бұрын
@@5eoddities765 To be honest, I wouldn’t even count processing new information with that much weight, because there are several things that people will not be able to learn on the first try. Some concepts and equations will inevitably take hours of dedicated studying, and you’re not more intelligent because you caught onto a pattern before your peers did, you just thought about it differently. Also, you’re very right to mention different forms of intelligence that Neanderthals used. This applies to our world today where only some people know about things like hunting, how to read people, or how to play music on multiple instruments. They’re clearly very intelligent in their fields, but they’re not less intelligent for not being as prolific in say Physics.
@5eoddities7653 жыл бұрын
@@aaronlandry3934 I think your argument is valid. In some tests outside of IQ tests, fluid intelligence is measured also (think of test questions like 'a' is to 'y' as 'b' is to [blank]). While a deeper understanding can help (especially if this is a word problem), being able to recognize patterns is a useful skill A lot of education systems are based on rigid structure and this may aid some in certain subjects, but the quick acquisition of knowledge is not measured or respected in systems that require long term study I believe there is value in how quick one acquires knowledge, though I am no authority on how much important this is to standard recall

Tbh IQ is just a number. Intelligence doesn’t come from a number but from the information you learn and how much discipline you got to succeed. Now will I say that certain people are better at certain subjects than others. However, if someone is disciplined enough to work and study hard then it’s a bit different. For anyone reading this, you can do anything you set your mind too. It really all comes down to where you want to end up and how much work your willing to put in.
