everytime you have a teen boy drummer accepted by a known band like Smashing, composed of 40-45yo adults (at the time) yeah, it is kinda fantastic :-)

I’m sorry I disagree. This is arguably their best album. And I’ve been a fan since 91. I was born in ‘84 and I had older siblings who taught me music. Top 9 at 9 on the radio. Disarm. My first cassette bought was Siamese dream, my first cd(s) were the double album… And the last Cd I ever bought was this album. I don’t even have a device to play a cd anymore unless I go trough old boxes to find my old PS2. Point is… This album is amazing and I think it challenges to be the best. Ask me Monday I say Siamese, ask me Tuesday it’s adore, Thursday is the box set and Friday is Pisces. The point is… One of the days is Oceania…

So apparently the guitar he used on this recording was also used to record Mayonaise and he also wrote 1979 on it, but didn’t use it to record the album version. It’s a Teisco Kimberly Apollo II guitar, similar to James Iha’s Teisco ET-230 guitar on the Rocket video and the Pisces Iscariot band photo.

Rise! Love is here Oh don't make me wonder Life's never clear where choice is a gift To use and abuse To build on proof Oh don't make me suffer Birds find the wind and wing Rest in the shells I've desinged Run through the fields I've denied And stroll upon the years I'm alive There's a sun that shines in There's a world that stares out at me And all I refuse to please Breathe! Love is air Oh don't make me suffer To dash debonair where chaste is the wish To bust with pain A heart goes blank Oh don't make me wonder To ask on behalf of you Of you, where are you? Where are you in you? There's a sun that shines in There's a world that stares out at me And all I refuse to please There's a sun that shines in There's a world that stares out at me And all I refuse And all I'd ever use in me There's a sun that shines in me There's a sun that shines There's a sun that shines in me

This is, without a doubt, their best album in YEARS. Great lyrics (as per usual), each song has its own beautiful quality, and there's always a kind of magical, oneiric quality in Billy's voice (for the most part, especially on this album, etc.). A lot of people do not have poetry running through their veins, so they cannot even remotely grasp the insight of such an Imaginative gloriousness. This album is perfect after reading Gaston Bachelard's "The Poetics of Space." Bravo and then some!

Yeah and he continues to reinvent himself. "Oceania" is sooo chuck full of brilliantly complex arrangements and fresh approaches to every aspec of songwriting and composition. I particularly love these intros and other parts in the songs where instead of giving your the full arrangement right away he lets each instrument come in one at a time. At first you go hmmm what is this? and then you go Ohhhh I seee :) Genius! :) Billy rules so does Smashing PUmpkins. Can't wait to see them this tour!

I just listened to this album for the first time, somehow missing it in Pumpkins line-up of albums. Really digging the album. It's Pumpkins but you can tell Billy is trying to add new elements while keeping that Pumpkins sound, and I think he did a great job. The new drummer playing very much in style to Jimmy. Yeah, two thumbs up, its a good album, though a couple songs get a little weird, I just expect that anymore with a Pumpkins album.

Why do people dislike this album? It's got everything I love. Billy Corgan, a progressive element (the drummer adds that) some soft stuff, even those exotic keyboards. Maybe it's cuz Billy is the only original member? That doesn't bother me...I always believed HE was SP to begin with. As much as James, Darcy and Matt contributed, he has always kept it afloat. And this album makes me happy he is keeping the name and music alive and well!!!!!

I'll tell you why. Many fans don't feel good with theirselves if thet don't hate the last album of their favourite band. In a few years, Oceania will be remembered as one of the greatest Smashing albums right next to Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie, I'm sure.
@brasovraskon469710 жыл бұрын
Alvaro Perez Santolaria I gotta disagree. I just didn't get Oceania. It wasn't terrible by any means but a far cry from, say, Adore or Machina. Zeitgeist was simply bad (just my opinion). That's not to say these albums don't have great individual moments. The lack of original members never bothered me, Billy was always the Smashing Pumpkins. I am looking forward to Monuments.
@NosferatuNite10 жыл бұрын
Oceania was amazing, I think the songwriting is excellent. It's one of Billys best albums I think certain people may not understand it because the songs aren't filled with grungy distortion, I'd bet if he had at least 5 heavy rockers more people would of loved it, plus I'm think certain pumpkin fans just don't like synths...oh well their loss for being closed minded.

The Panopticon is a type of institutional building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late eighteenth century. Pretty sure Billy is pretty into philosophy, etc, doesn't necessarily mean he's ripping off Isis lyrics. They could just be kinda into the same vein.

ya I can agree to that. I guess saying james and d'arcy brought something to the table is just my own personal nostalgia kicking in. lol I still stand by my thought that if billy started with the new members of the band I still think there would've been the same growing pains. we can also agree that SP was a pretty epic dramatic roller coaster ride :)
@sillymilly31111 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's much perspective in what you say. The old members were all young and had growing pains together. the new members look up to and respect billy for what he's done and been through. you can't deny that the original members brought a lot to SP even if Billy did most of the music and writing himself. I do agree that billy seems happier than he's ever been (according to interviews that is)

The only person from the old days I could ever say brought a lot was Jimmy. They were a Cure-like band but his drumming brought a new level of heaviness to them. Without him, they might have been a different band altogether. Not to mention that, like Billy, the man is a musical genius, and very talented. James and D'Arcy may as well have been hired help.
