Song reflects on Billy's childhood issues with his parents, particularly his father. You can read about those elsewhere, he's spoken of them for years. Abused, abandoned children learn to hide their grief and anger, they put on a false front of normalcy. That response gets them through but the habit is hard to break. As an adult it can be difficult to express emotion or respond to others in a acceptable way. It's isolating.

Sorry about the loss of your son, Heroin is no joke.. I had to step away from this music because it put me into the mindset of my old ways. Sometimes I think stepping away from depressive culture helped me in many way to better cope with every day anxieties. Every now and then I'll pop a record in, but then I feel the depression consume me again, so I shut it off. The minor details of this song. How tranquil, soft and beautiful it is. That is one thing I love about Mellon Collie. It isn't overproduced. It feels raw. The instruments don't feel exact or robotized. It feels lively and as if the recordings were made with the intention of it being as pure and vulnerable as possible. This gargantuan called Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is a masterpiece because of all the moments it carries. It will always remain in time as a beautiful thing!

Nice touch to follow Bullet' with this song; the art of song-ordering, and timing between them is what makes albums greater than the sum of their parts. Pumpkins (Billy) always had a great feel for juxtaposition, and the concept of loud-quiet-loud being effective on an a larger scale than just chorus/verse. It's best appreciated having listened to the preceding track. Like coming up for air after being tumbled by whitewater

Rolf Reimer Andersen Almost right, but completely wrong. It refers to the B-side on a 45rpm record, ie. a SINGLE. Albums also have b-sides but the term comes from the flipside of a single, a popular song from an album, it would have a b-side that was usually (but not always) a non album track, or sometimes an alternative version of the a-side.

...he's not 'almost' right (which of course you are), just completely wrong. And said with such arrogance and vigour as well. Entertaining.

Sometimes a feeling is so specific it requires a four minute song to express. This is one of those times.
