We took this era for granted. They were way ahead of their time and it’s cool to see so many people now recognize ADORE as an incredible album.

if jimmy was in this era, it'd probably be my favourite era. they're just so good here and billies voice has a great balance of his classic angst and a better technique.

eternal regret ..... no jimmy for that so intimate fragile and powerful album with great booklet. Hope a re-recording with Jimmy. I'm not agree with you guys. The sensitivity of Jimmy could have been expressed on this album .... the drum machine on the recording would have been overcome by jimmy human feel

You guys should know that playing is not about virtuosism. It has much more to do with feeling, tone and focus. That's what i'm saying. She seems to be really into her playing on Adore tour, and though the songs are easier indeed, they demand much more dedication to transmit such emotions on a touring schedule.

Oh, how lucky that friggin’ kid is at the end of the show!! Haha... I guarantee I’d probably do the same damn thing he does at the beginning when she’s showing him (trying to anyhow... haha) how to go about holding her bass while playing so he doesn’t drop it. At least, I’m pretty sure that’s what she’s trying to tell him yet he’s on his knees holding her hand like she’s his rock queen or something... I had such the biggest friggin’ crush on her thruout the 90’s to whereas even tho I knew she was married at that point I still would’ve been ‘oh so head over heels’ & probably tried for a hug right there on stage as well for sure! Haha! Yeah, I’d made a fool outta myself on stage in front of everyone but man oh man was she just absolutely hot! Almost had my chance in trying to do so after the 06/27/96 show in Indy, IN behind the now defunct Market Square Arena. Yeah haha, waited for a chance to meet her after what was already a 3 encore loaded show that lasted from opening act Garbage who went on at 7:45pm to 8:30-8:35, then SP went on at 8:59pm & after an phenomenal show w/3 encores at that(!) finally ended at 12:05am w/the rarely played ‘Farewell & Goodnight’ which was sang individually by entire band (which was really cool to see!) Then waited behind Market Square Arena for another 2hr & 45 mins. In that time tho, I got to meet Garbage band members Duke Erikson & Butch Vig in front of their bus behind parking garage. Actually got the chance to talk for a few mins w/Vig which unbelievably didn’t mind talking about the experience of recording Nirvana’s Nevermind & SP’s Siamese Dream. Really acted pretty cool about it & went into an actual discussion with us about both times w/the bands! Really an awesome feat I’d experienced & to think, the night was still ‘young’! After about 10-15 mins, they ventured on into their bus, to which be4 doing so made sure to tell us that Shirley (Manson) had already taken off 4 whatever reason(s) to next city they were to play 2 nights later... even tho we didn’t even ask about her but oh well! About 20 or so min later, out of nowhere Garbage bandmate Steve Marker & SP’s very own James Iha walked out of another tour bus by us & talked 4 a few mins as well. Guessing bcos it was only myself & my friend hanging out where we were which was a bit ways from the other fans who were seeking autographs etc. (which was just a crowd of maybe 12-15 only). For whatever reason, security never bothered us where we were standing at which was right near Garbage band mates’ Steve, Duke & Butch’s bus. (Shirley apparently had her own bus) Anyways... so Steve Marker talked to us 4 only a min or so asking where we were from (which was Louisville, KY), then if we smoked/had a cigarette, what we thought about show blah blah ... Don’t think there was anything else he asked but Iha looked & came off a tad bit uhm...stoned. Yeah, he kept kind of stumbling thru his words. Hell, Marker & an associate of theirs even had trouble understanding him as well. Only thing he said to us that we did understand after he said it what, 2-3 times(?) was that quote “if you’re waiting for Billy n Jim, they’re doing an exclusive w/Mtv for (something something...) time” unquote. That’s definitely all we could make out of him saying. Then they said bye & hopped on bus for the night. Walked on down a bit by the rest of what was left of fans by this point which was at bottom of ramp that led upto the backdoors of the arena. Since I was really only there all this time to try n meet just D’Arcy herself, after all that time thruout the night which was now a lil past 3am, all of a sudden it looked as if it was going to happen... I thought! So watching the doors, I finally laid eyes on the woman herself who was still wearing the same identical outfit she had on stage, she begins to start the long walk down the ramp towards all of us along w/two arena security guards at bottom of ramp. So my jackass self got so excited, I just started walking towards her past security who kinda yelled at me but no chase (which was a bit strange, right?). As we walked towards one another, I put my hand out to try n shake hers to which she held up her arms in a motion as she said “Whoa man, I’m not her!” Then giggled and said “I’m her... stunt double” and walked on past me alongside past everyone else as well. Well, all of every1 else began to kind of act sour & say things like “ahh c’mon, D’Arcy... don’t do that!” We just want an autograph, picture etc etc.” No one got rude or anything as we all watched her walk to her car which was the black Benz that I knew she owned. She then pulls back up the ramp & then sits there for about 10 min. Suddenly then, I see a figure that looked oddly similar to once again D’Arcy herself where I said aloud my buddy to u know, hey look! That person then after walking out backdoor walked over to car n got in passenger side n started then to back out down the ramp towards us. Every1 then started gathering up again (which still was only like 12 or so of us) as the car backed up slowly gtng closer to us. I again, was able to kind of walk out a bit ahead n stayed on lefthand side of the Benz. As I was walking alongside the front left quarter panel of the car, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at... So there’s the ‘girl’, who ABSOLUTELY IDENTICALLY we all thought was D’Arcy, driving the Benz & then in passenger seat was the 1 & only D’Arcy herself! This ‘stunt double’ had everything down pat to looking just like Ms. bass player herself that night! The same black shirt w/some sort of silver writing on the front, the same black jeans or pants (can’t exactly remember which), same black heeled boots, the same friggin’ hair fixed the same identical way she had that night which was the short blond look w/front of it combed over n down similar to how it was in BWBW video except not blue, same dark mascara she had around her eyes that night! I mean, how this could this not be her, u know?! But yet, here they are both sitting in front of me, one driving & what turned out to be the real D’Arcy in the passenger seat! So the coolest part of the night happens... now! As the driver looks over at me, she turned n said something to D’Arcy which in turn made D’Arcy look up n over at me as well as I was at this time the only person standing there in the direction she’s facing me. Assuming she’s telling her how I was the one who ran up like a fool trying to get idk, a handshake, hug, hell idk what I expected cos I was just at that time an awestruck 20 yr old fan of hers w/a friggin’ goofy ass fantype crush, u know?! Anyways, as she’s telling her what I did apparently, they both kinda started laughing and then she (D’Arcy) looked at me, leaned over the console just a lil bit, not much or anything, put her hand to her lips & blew me a kiss! At this point, I was still at the left side front quarter panel of car by windshield & when she did that, I felt my friggin’ face go blush red & idk for sure but feel like I gave off a stupid ass giddy of a friggin’ smile back at her to which she & the ‘driver’ both gave 1 of those flirty looking finger-motion type waves to me as they then backed all the way down the ramp & then drove off up N. Michigan Ave & was gone for the night. Btw, that so-called ‘stunt double’ she called herself...? Well, I found out a short time later on a website that was dedicated to D’Arcy for all her fans that it apparently was her sister who apparently (I can’t remember for exactly sure whether it’s she has a twin or a sister that bears almost a striking identical resemblance to 1 another. I don’t exactly remember word for word of what was wrote on the site but what it stated was similar to something like that, I do recall. I also remember the site being, at the least, somewhat legit. That being due to the fact that there were quite a few shared personal pics shared on the site of family/friends of her n family such as D’Arcy & husband Kerry on their horse farm in Michigan City, IN along w/photos of her w/her two sisters n others. So... from there on I just always assumed it was just her sister playing the ‘part’ per’se? Haha! Anyway, so I’m sure there will be whoever or however many of ya thinking I’m just making things up as I go along here to which I’m sure there’s going to be some who don’t believe me on however much of all this but oh well. I can’t help ya if you don’t. I do know for certain what all happened n took place & that’s always been special to me. Anyway, just thought I’d take a bit and share that SP experience w/other SP (& espcly D’Arcy) fans as well is all! Hope you enjoyed reading this long ass story I typed out here. Good lord, actually did NOT realize how friggin’ long I’ve been typing away on here or how long this damn thing has become on here! Anyways, hope you enjoyed the story!

You know one of my college buddies turned me on to Smashing Pumpkins and he said listen to that which was Gish and I was blown away because to me they didn’t sound like anyone else. Billy’s vocals were very unique, his and James guitar 🎸 playing very original and inspirational, Darcy with her own ice Queen vibe, and Jimmy’s very unique approach to playing aggressively and then quietly and then amazing dexterity with ghost notes on the snare and toms with jazz flavoring! So to sum up they didn’t sound like any group at their time not grunge, soft rock, not alternative, not Progressive rock just their own unique sound which was unheard before ala Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix where right of the Shute as a listener you were going what’s this? I don’t know but I like this! Saw the Gish tour and then Siamese Dream tour as part of LOLLAPOLOOZA! Love the guys! I do miss Darcy though! Just sayin 💔

Omg I’m just reading the notes from the tour. Kenny was pissed with the other percussion who were off. Yeah, I think we gotta give Kenny a break. He said he felt like he was on LSD trying to keep time. Billy hated the pianist because he couldn’t play the same thing twice. Yeah. Oh well. It’s still gorgeous.

Yes I'm sexist.... but I can feel D'arcy's hotness permeate everything around her when she's on stage and it makes me drunk. Her energy really does lend something lovely and essential to what the Pumpkins are. It goes beyond her playing. I always miss it when she's gone. Melissa Auf Der Mayer, for example, is a better bassist, but she still can't replace D'arcy.
