I will soon be uploading the full performance from which this clip was taken, so watch this here space. I small few people have tried to bribe me to do so, by offering donations via PayPal. I accepted them, and wish I had thought of it sooner - a small donation from occasional viewers could've paid my medical bills in recent years. Who was I to expect such viewing figures back when I uploaded this amazing clip? Its never too late though, am I right? I heard from someone that the bass part was written by Johnny Marr, and performed by Rourke because Marr... has 'only got two hands'.

I'm sorry for spreading misinformation but I think it's rather pretentious to bring up that you played bass at a pro level and use that as validation of your opinion that this is a masterpiece. Even tho I agree

Anyone here think this sounds better than the album version ? I think the bass being higher in the mix transforms this song. Epic baseline riff and awesome bass playing, Marr’s guitar sounds great too. In fact they all sound effing brilliant

Agree...prefer to listen to this version

Seems to be a theme with The Tube. I think their back room sound guys really had a talent for making the best of the bands.

Quite possibly Andy's best work. RIP

This is an absolutely remarkable performance from Andy Rourke. To be able to continue a bass riff like that for that length of time and bounce off of what Marr is playing with no errors is incredible. Just doesn’t seem humanly possibly to do what he’s done there. He’s like a machine. Only thing I can really even compare it to is the Stephen Morris’s drumming on a performance of Transmission someone uploaded on here (which is a similarly amazing performance from another underrated musician). I really hope Andy gets the widespread recognition from the public as a great bassist that he never seemed to really get while he was alive…

RIP, Andy Rourke. As soon as I heard the news, I came straight to this vid. Funky Bunky. Who said music died after The Clash.

Easily one of the best guitar / bass complimentary hooks ever written, and Morrisey as usual elevates the material with the borderline bizzare lyrical delivery that completely contrasts the frenetic tempo of the strings. Just an auditory delight.

It was. I remember the fall appeared in their 1st live tv show. Awesome. Notably southern death cult was good too. Great memories back when ch4 and was hip.

Damn, that is a sick groove, a seriously underrated rhythm section of Mike Joyce/Andy Rourke, just as clever and expressive as any Morissey lyric or Marr lick

Morrissey's vocals here...sublime. The live mix is magnificent. Telly sounded better in the 1980's.

How could anyone play the bass that good? And the tone he was getting out of it. Thank you for such a high quality recording on this video.

A very underrated part of this video is when Morrissey shrugs at the end of the song like "well, that just happened!"
