Seriously, your technique, streamlining, etc. - a thing of beauty....and envy lol. Non-swimmers don't quite understand/can't appreciate the performance you just showed here.

Yeah, it must be definitely 25y pool. There are 25 segments, but if you look at the start, when the swimmer is streched at max, he takes up 3 segments lenght, which in a 25m pool would be 3 meters. Unless he is 215cm tall, this is for sure a 20y. Anyway it is still awesome, I hope someday I can swim like that, or at least close to it
@rodolfogoes97137 күн бұрын
Each segment has 6 discs, meaning, this is for sure a 25y pool. The ones with 25m have their sameller segments with 10 discs. The person lenght is about 12 discs, thus meaning his is about 1,82m tall.

Trying to imitate his style - I love how he moves his arms and hands. It is the most beautiful freestyle swimming I have seen so far on the Internet. Today, I timed my 100 m freestyle (with a pull-buoy between my legs), imitating, or at least trying to, his hand and arm movements. I got around 1:30, which is 45 seconds per 50 m. Not great, but considering everything, I guess it is OK. I just got back to the swimming pool in June (it is October 3rd today). I hadn’t been swimming for 8 years, and even when I had been swimming, it was only for a couple of months at a time, with breaks in between. Also, I know I lose seconds by not doing four dolphin kicks after the turn. Sometimes I do none, and sometimes I manage one little dolphin kick, but with the pull-buoy, it is not as easy.

I’ve been focusing on kick timing. Weirdly, his kick is asymmetrical. Left arm catch = strong left leg kick. Left arm finish = medium right leg kick. Right arm catch = strong right leg kick, BUT Right arm finish = NO KICK. Weird. On one side it’s two kicks and a recovery. On the other, it’s a one-beat kick. I’m working on the Strong, Medium, Recovery on both sides. Any explanation for the asymmetry?
@worthtech32494 жыл бұрын
He uses his kick well to enhance his rotation into the catch, I noted Ledecky does the same. I've started working on this.
@JonFairhurst4 жыл бұрын
I’ve also been working on it. The kick with the catch definitely helps the rotation. It also boosts the body forward so you can catch quickly without losing purchase on the water. This is the major kick. The medium kick is at the end of the stroke, which is the most powerful moment and it occurs when the recovered arm is streamlined. This is the fastest moment in the stroke. It’s not unlike the butterfly kick when the arms are finishing their stroke. It still seems weird that he only does it on one side. When the arm recovers, the legs don’t so muck kick as they recover to set up for the next big catch kick. I’ve been practicing this with and without small fins. Using fins, withvery little movement and a *snap* at the right timings, you can go really fast with little effort. Wish I had been practicing this years ago.
@josephpurdy46644 жыл бұрын
It can often be because of variation of breathing or asymmetry of arm strokes. Often poor kick is an indicator of something else being done improperly
@JonFairhurst4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Purdy - After my previous comment, I saw a video on this technique. It’s a four beat kick. Three on one side and just one on the other. I believe that this is a compromise. Hi Tristin, I'd say you'd have to go back to basics and work on your stroke technique to do it. However in his classic book "The Science of Swimming" James Counsilman said that a major stroke change will slow a swimmer down for a few months, but it may be possible to change technique bit by bit. I haven't swum at all for years and am quite old now but if I do get back in the water I would work almost entirely on stroke technique and not go for any speed until good technique was established. The other thing is pacing. Just going half a second slower on the first 25m of a 4x25 hundred metres, maintaining the pace for the second 25m and giving it all you've got from 65 or 75m could improve your time by half a second to a second. You need to practise this as it feels quite different. Almost all club swimmers I've seen go off too fast and then have to slow down. The same applies to all distances
@josephpurdy46644 жыл бұрын
John Melville Any tips on high elbow catch when doing freestyle. I’ve been struggling
@johnswimcat4 жыл бұрын
@@josephpurdy4664 Hi Joseph, I'm no expert though I have done a lot of miles in training. The best advice I can give is to use a snorkel so the breathing doesn't disrupt the stroke and swim slowly so you can really focus on getting the movements and timing right. For movements and timing Effortless Swimming has some of the best advice I've found. It takes time and lots of repetition to establish a good habit. Only then start to breathe without a snorkel, then increase pace. In his book "The Science of Swimming" James Counsilman, who was the father of modern swimming training, says it takes months for a swimmer to make a major stroke change successfully and start to improve on former times. I find it helps to practise the movements you want out of the water. Personally I think it's well worth the time spent developing a good stroke. If you can get someone to video your stroke from different positions above and below water that should be very helpful
@josephpurdy46644 жыл бұрын
John Melville Thank you for the reply. I never realized that a snorkel could help with that part of the stroke because I rarely use one. Thanks for the help! i’ll be sure to look into the book!

@@josephpurdy4664 The Science of Swimming is an old book now and much of it will have been superseded by improvements in almost every area but Counsilman's thinking is very good. Reachable in 20-25m pool but not in professional 50m pool or outside. You have 4 times of kickoff phase where you get the speed. Swimm this time outside if you are really good?!

Each of the black and white stripe should be about half a meter, assuming this guy is 1.8m tall as his body cover about 3 of the stripes. I count the black and white stripe and I have a hard time to believe it’s a 25m pool. This pool seems to only be about 15m long.

same thoughts. and he swim with almost full stops, but there must be constant wave at such speeds. everybody can try to reach 1 minute per 100 speed with fins, and it is not that speed as in this vid. look at 1500 races, they have 1 min for 100 speed and compare with his 😊

Sorry, but I can't believe it. The world record holder (Sun Yang) of the 1500m freestyle swims every 100m in 1 minute + -, with 27 strokes (the most efficient of all), at race pace! A world competitor swims 1500m in a short pool (25m) with an average of 17 strokes per pool, at race pace! In this example, the swimmer does a similar time (1 minute) to the split world record holder, at a slowdown pace with 9 strokes! This pool must be in yards. He didn't swim 100 meters.

Daniel watch it at 0.75 speed. To me it looks more realistic. I think he swam slowly and then sped up the video. That’s the trick. The pool seems to be legit 25 meters (there are 25 blue and white 1-meter segments that divide the lanes)
@philippe96044 жыл бұрын
Sun yang swims 58 secs per 100m in a long course pool, 15 times uninterrupted, as his time is 14.31 on the 1500m. This guy, also an olympic swimmer, swims 59.8 one time in a short course pool. Perfectly possible.

How does this time translate into 100 meters in open water (starting from idle position in the water, no wall push-off)? I'm asking because I never swim in a pool, only in open water.
@thegosugamer14 жыл бұрын
I do not think anyone can give you the right answer. Salty water lifts you up, hence makes it easier to swim.Turns help you rest your arms, plus its a bit of speed boost if it is done right. My guess , he would go around 01:03 - 01:04 /
@kaystoeffler4 жыл бұрын
@@thegosugamer1 thanks man. So, about 5 sec. slower in open water. Sounds plausible.

@brianlong23344 жыл бұрын
Just depends on the swimmer and were the open water is/ temperature. Me personally 5k in the pool 58minutes but 5k open water time is 1h 6m. So you would have to compear your time's in the pool to open water as everyone is different.

hypothetcally speaking how well would he do in the swim leg in Kona ? would he be first out of the water ? I know he is not a long distance swimmer just interested to know if he would be good enough to beat triathletes over 3800
@ln57473 жыл бұрын
Of course, he's an Olympic swimmer at 200m I believe! He definitely has endurance being a 200 guy so would easily do a very fast longer swim, especially as his technique would probably translate well also.
