American, but grew up in a town with a rich soccer history. Grew up a Cosmos fan However, after the NASL folded, didn't pay much attention to soccer until much later, when I had kids and they played soccer. I have watched the Premier League regularly for years now, without having a favorite team. Rooted for the underdog teams or whoever played the big 6 (Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Liverpool, and Tottenham). However, the past few years I've really liked they way Brighton & Hove Albion plays, and how they approach running their club, and I find myself actively seeking out their games. You CAN'T force an affiliation, especially by comparing the the NFL. If you are American, and have no personal connection to any Premier League team, you just have to watch as many games as possible, and eventually a team will catch your interest.

Hey man. I like this video. I'm in the UK and watch a lot of Premier League football. I'm a year behind, so some of your comments didn't age well, but I am a Leeds fan and I picked Philly as my NFL team as my team a few years back (before they won the Superbowl), and I always think the fanbase is pretty similar, so I think you nailed that.

Love this idea, great way to bring Americans into the world of soccer ! Being from Pittsburgh I found the easiest team to fall in love with was Dortmund. Beyond the superficial reason of the same color scheme they are almost identical culturally. Steel works, blue coller toughness, all the good stuff. Compare their consistent success, yet not always the scariest team, to the Steelers and and Penguins then combine it with the great eye for young talent and development of that talent to the Pirates.

My son is a Dortmund fan - mainly because he wanted to be different. Most of his friends were Messi/Renaldo fans, hence either Real Madrid or Barcelona fans. He wanted to be different, and he liked Marco Reus. Of course, playing FIFA helped, and Christian Pulisic began his career they, and now Gio Reyna, so they have a tradition of giving young Americans a chance. In the Bundesliga, the team I follow is VfL Bochum.

Sheffield United (The Blades) Sheffield Wednesday (The Owls) Middlesbrough (The two heeded smoggies) English clubs that may not be in the Premier League, but the whole promotion/relegation thing we have does mean that they might end up there and have been there in the past. I'd say between the two Sheffield clubs, United are more working class than Wednesday.

I really like this concept. I'm a bit older than you and have a different perspective on some of the clubs you mentioned.... for example, Miami Dolphins were the big team when I was growing up and so I'd have likened them to a team with historical success like Villa or Everton who both had spells of dominance prior to the Premiere League... but, yeah... great idea.

A year later I would compare the Jets to Fulham. Strong additions to group with a GM who has shown they aren’t afraid to make moves. Investing in young talent and also pursuing free agents that may seem out of reach.

Hey! Thank you for this comment! I play semi pro soccer and with full time job so that made my day. It's been hard for us to find time to make videos in season but we still try. So I think there are 2 comparisons depending on how you view the packers. 1.) Tottenham - they have a star player with a star side kick and questions at other positions that make the star never commit to the team long term (kinda like how some years Aaron is there some he seems to be done). Tottenham, like the packers are always good but never seem to win the big one recently. 2.) Leicester City- a star player who is aging (Jamey Vardy) in a location that has a team no business being as good as they are (like green bay). This year has been a little down for them but the past 6 years have been verrryyyy successful and even won the title back in 2016

As an American getting into premier league soccer the hardest part for me is understanding the story lines and narratives around each player. I don't want to tell you how to run your channel, but the information I'm lacking that doesn't allow me to buy in like I do with the NFL or NBA is I don't know the storylines and narratives from all teams, the highs and the lows you know. What about doing a more expanded series of this video where you break down the team history top former players and current players storylines. That's the content I need to close the gap. Also, breakdowning top plays to help us understand the nuisances of soccer or the game within the game? Just ideas on the information I'm lacking as a newbie to this league and sport. I appreciate your engagement and good luck.

@@whosaidthat84 I still have faith in the defense , yeah the first half of the season was sloppy but I think the coach Christophe Galtier (I’m not sure how familiar you are with soccer or the coaching side of things but he’s seen as a great up and coming coach and is handling his first time coaching a big team amazingly) will be able to clean up the defense and maybe we can even bring in a center back this transfer window

I love the video, as I mentioned previously, but I do need to teach you about English pronunciation. Norwich is pronounced Norrich. The W is silent 😊 Well done for avoiding comparing Crystal Palace to the Philadelphia Eagles (because Palace are nicknamed the Eagles). They will never win anything because they're a selling club. They produce great young players, but they don't keep them when they mature.

Hey Zac! Thanks for the question! Love getting them. Yes to both lol! Premier League - That's tough to be honest. I think Portsmouth in terms of ownership is the best comparison but they are in the league below the premier league. So for that reason I think the best comparison is Leicester City. In terms of location both are a little ways off from everything. In terms of play both make a lot of good choices without breaking the bank. Both have a star player thats getting older (Aaron = Jamie Vardy). Most importantly both have won a title in the last 10 years and have remained very tough. I think it's the best comparison. Bundisliga - that's a little harder but I think I have to go with VFL Wolfsburg. They have a funky ownership group that's not typical just like the Packers and are always tough team. In addition they have a American who starts for them, John Brooks. Hope that helps? Let me know!

Jake I'm not going to lie. I thought about this for awhile after I read your comment. Honestly I don't think there is a comparison. I'm going to give you one but I'm reaching a little here lol. Brentford - Brentford is a team that is building around their core. They have some nice young players in the like of Ivan Toney (like Juedy and the other young WRs). However what has really been a strong point thus far is the defense, they have only given up 2 goals in 5 games. And just like the Broncos that's good for next place behind the 1st place tie. Also Brentford is in London and has a nice new stadium so that's perks for new fans too of them. Hope that helps, even if a little.

The Premier League is not the best league to watch. It's the best league in the world in terms of international availability and reknown and it is certainly the richest league in the world, so many players go there because they get paid more and receive more international attention. But regarding the excitement of the football/soccer being played it doesn't stand out compared to other European top leagues. Even though its clubs spend by far the most money, in terms of international success the Premier League trails the Spanish first division league.
