Australians and New Zealanders have optimised the process of making good-quality, low-budget movies: mostly "linear" stories (on several occasions, including the present one, taken from/inspired by real life), seamlessly flowing; the dialogue makes sense, simple but not cheesy; the acting is generally solid. According to Wikipedia, "Matthew Wales was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment with a non-parole period of 24 years."

The cinematography in this film was excellent, sharp focus & great angles Much of the tension & fear factor that makes a film smoulder, is the camera work & Brilliant editing. Some of the scariest & nail biting Films ive ever seen arent spec/fx Or gore fests or over the top hysteria Its all camera work, great acting skill & class! Im just half way through but its a good tight film Thinking back to the Ivan Milat murders & other killings & knowing the vastness of the Outback its a wonder any bodies are found. I remember when my parents & I lived in NSW in Australia years ago now but having travelled through out lying areas is so HUGE & it all looks the same, for hundreds of miles in every direction! Still its a brilliant place to live & i loved my time there. Peace 🇬🇧👧

Watching this true story is very difficult to convict her also having a child. Matthew showed signs of being guilty from the beginning, he did love his wife & child. When she was questioned at her shop...she tried hard not to reveal anything, to protect her husband, but later she did go to the police..from there onward he also showed he had a bad temper with his sister and brother. Obviously he was the guilty one.

I agree. Maybe they didn’t like her, the mutual dislike was apparent, but that doesn’t mean she was a murderer. Matthew, with an IQ of 83 might easily thought he’d run upstairs in his panic, when in fact he was outside when his wife found him. This family needed to grieve and move on, not hang on to this sad event endlessly determined to send Matthew’s widow to prison. They were going to keep themselves and their children angry, sad, and perpetually unhappy. Poor choice. Sometimes you just have to let go.

It is good that the child, Dom, has the continued love of his mother, as the loss of his father will remain evident. I presume there will be divorce, and the Wales family should embrace Mariza and Dom. It is in no way the child's fault. But Aussies bring blameful as they are to anyone and everyone, I doubt there will be a bridge between the family and the in-law, which Dom is not. He is blood.

True crime stories are sometimes disturbing, seeing the dark side of humanity. Fiction is good and all, but knowing it's fiction makes it less disturbing. Don't have to watch movies for the true stories as many are in the news. The movie just shows the details you might not see on the news. This story was a good story, well acted and believable.

Some of the drama should have been left off, and important points settled for the viewers for whom the movie was made after all. First point is, when the car was found the drivers seat was full forward. this was never again mentioned.?? Second point is, film dramatised Matthew beating victims with some sort of club, viciously. This was never mentioned at autopsy, nor before film ended???? Third point, victims were said to be poisoned, this was not mentioned at autopsy, nor before film ended. Fourth point, victims were said to be buried alive, no mention at autopsy. nor before film ended. The murdered mother's glasses were found at home. never mentioned again. This film was not well put together, why mention these things only to drop them later?. Soapy type drama was apparently more important than facts the audience would have appreciated learning about.

At the missing couple's house, the bedroom light was on, the mother's glasses were on the nightstand and the bed was turned down. There was no explanation for that or for any of the other major inconsistencies. I believe the wife played a bigger part in all of this.

Strangulation was not the cause; the police said "aphexiation", which could happened as they were wrapped up in sheets and suffocated (same if someone died because their face was covered with a pillow). That’s my take on it, he knocked them out, but then wrapped them in something that prevented them from getting oxygen and they were unable to wake back up. Meaning that the poison or sleeping medicine in the soup and the blow to the head didn’t kill them. It was being wrapped up. He Probably put something over their heads And they never revived.

Very poor police work. The car seat position was a big clue. They should have gotten dna from both Maritza and Matthew from cups or hairbrushes, or whatever. They couldn't account for the strangulation. Maritza drugged and strangled them. Then Matthew covered up for her by beating them with the wood. The judge was bribed.
@donnabacon4681
@donnabacon4681 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the strangulation, the detective said "aphexiation", which could mean, they died because they (1) not able to move, as they were drugged; (2) because they were wrapped up in sheets, that could have caused them to suffocate. If they were strangled, they would have been ligature marks. Yes! The seat was up way to far for Matthew. Whether she killed them or not, she is an accessory to murder. Just like someone driving the get away car in a bank heist ...

What great acting and cinematography! I love to watch true crime stories because they happen with the actual lives of people. Clearly, Matthew's actions were not only mistaken but also ill-advised, leading to the tragic outcome of taking innocent lives right at his doorstep and involving his wife in the crime. His low IQ, measured at 83, likely played a role in his poor judgment. Regarding his wife, she should have employed her better judgment and immediately contacted the police after the crime rather than waiting all those days. A crime of such magnitude would have been difficult to conceal without eventually being discovered, and this delay was her primary error. Nevertheless, my heart goes out to her, her child, and their future prospects. I can't muster any sympathy for Matthew given the circumstances.

Very bad cinematography in some parts of this film; shaky camera on closeups is not a very good idea.

Actually, STUPIDITY is the main reason for most crimes. An intelligent person can think in options and choices. Stupid people can only come up with lame reasons and excuses.

Her only crime was to love her husband. Obviously Matthew has issues and in the end no one truly knows what goes on inside a family. I can’t imagine the racist abuse Maritsa must of endure in that family. Wish her and her family love and peace ❤❤

Hardly, Maritza's behaviour was despicable. She should have put her son first and contacted the police/lawyer asap if she was innocent, especially since still her in-laws could still have been alive. Such a hypocrite watching the family's pain and even going to the cemetery and church etc. As for her contemptible, psycho husband he had no remorse (nor did she) and was obviously missing some brain cells. The police should have obtained DNA surreptitiously.

Right?! People seem so biased against her- not sure why they cannot just blame the man that confessed. The crime was sloppily executed and there was NO evidence against her...also it was HIS mother- geesh! This woman got drawn into a nest of evil vipers!

After reading other's comments, I'm odd man out. The camera is always moving, the accents are hard to follow....I'd rather stop now at 16 minutes in and go see if there is a documentary on this couple, instead of trying to stay focused and irritated while trying to relax.

I dont understand y the wife wasn't charged with tampering with evidence. If it had happened in West Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, The Hamptons, Greenwich, CT, or any other wealthy neighborhood, the wife would spend time in jail.

Surely Matthew and his puppeteering wife have dirty hands. Then there was strangulation and smashing. Did Matthew smash their heads to cover up the asphyxiation by poisoning? And then moved their bodies to the woods? But which criminal will leave a crime car behind as evidence? Couldn't the smart wife think of it? Another point - Research says that women usually kill through poisoning or other stealthy ways. Men use brutal force like knives, clubs, guns, or physical assault. It fits. And why would the wife want to kill his parents? Why kill the cow that gives milk - money?

If Matthew didn't strangled them, who does? He made a clear statement for that, after all he took all charges to clear his wife. Between the Police and Maritza’s Lawyer made a deal on her confession. By leading them the Master Mind and putting on the blame to Matthew just because she was there and made her statement at first. Covering the crime does not define her as “ no role of the crime “ .

Matthew is/was borderline mentally incapable with little impulse control and poor memory. One question is why did Maritza marry him? Did she expect to share in his family´s status and wealth? A poor move as he was the excommunicated one.

Reparation is the buzz word of the day They should let sleeping dogs lie. Even if somebody dig up more dirt on Malisa. It will only take a investigation journalist. To dig up the past history of land grabbing and segregation of Austrilian Aboriginal family. Then digging up that family's history of how they accumulated their wealth. Leave it alone.

They did it together. She then convinced the man who loved her to take the blame so she could remain free with the son. I imagine the mother didnt approve of the daughter in law. I think she manipulated matthew to commit this crime and she helped him. But my opinion is like everyone elses...irrelevant.
