The amount of worldbuilding poured into this is amazing! I only have a few questions about this: 1. Why in all the descriptions you wrote '[planet name]-Star. Lagrange 4 (...)' except the Centrum system, where you wrote '[planet name]-Cent.Solaris. Lagrange 4 (...)'? It just seems inconsistent to me. 2. Is there a reason why most of the drift gates are in L4s (except of maybe two or three)? 3. At around 7:57 you said something about the asteroid belts in the Vidara system, but there are none on the picture, nor in the description... I'm not trying to undermine your work or anything, I thing all this is amazing and can't wait to watch the first episodes. You count on me, that I will contribute as soon as the site for The Sojourn on Kickstarter is up (unless it is already, then I need a link ASAP). Anyways, I will keep my fingers crossed, and hope for a huge success of The Sojourn, good luck guys!

Hi, this is Gabriel, Scientific Advisor for The Sojourn. A couple of small errata, for something that slipped past us: Pioneer's star is listed in the graphics as an "O-Type Subdwarf Star". That is incorrect -- as Dan said in the video, Pioneer is a _"Dim yellow star."_ As such, the correct classification of pioneer is *G-Type Subdwarf Star* Firewatch is also listed as a _"Red Hypergiant"_ whereas it is actually supposed to be a *Red Giant*

Can't wait for the full story to come out! I'm a huge fan of the way you've designed the nebula and the history surrounding the people there, it's definitely unique to the traditional sci-fi you normally see. And with all the effort and detail you've put into it, I have no doubt this story is going to become one of my favourites. It's awesome work, you keep me inspired to make my own stories polished and published one day.

I like it too, but as a guy who does get frequent nosebleeds, I think it would be hard to die in your sleep from one. Being drunk would definitely increase the likelihood of its occurrence, but not by much. You'd have to lose enough blood to fill your lungs enough to suffocate, and nose bleeds don't leak that fast, not even the really bad ones. Not to mention the biological response to drowning, if your lungs start to fill with liquids it triggers an 'Oh Shit' moment in your brain that makes you take action. It might be possible if your nose bleed forms a sizeable clot, and then you choke on that clot, but not likely. I personally have woken up to a nosebleed more times than I can count. If I'm lying on my back when it starts, I feel the trickle through my nostrils, and if I'm lying on my stomach or side, it just drains out and glues my face to the pillow. Apologies if TMI, but I consider it my solemn duty to poke holes in weak plot-fabric. Although, come to think of it, it could just be a rumor there in place specifically to cover up murders by the mob. Like, it never actually happens on its own, but the mob kill enough people like that to support the rumor.
@CIoudStriker
@CIoudStriker 6 жыл бұрын
Or maybe the mentioned low humidity actually makes it so any nosebleed is much worse than it would ever be on earth.
@irradiatedslagheap7933
@irradiatedslagheap7933 6 жыл бұрын
Dude, I get some *really* bad nosebleeds. And even those are not bad enough to kill someone. It's not about humidity, the low humidity just increases the likelihood that your nasal tissue will dry out and crack. The blood still has to leak out through the crack, which imposes a limit to the flow rate based on the size of the wound and the thickness of the blood. That flow rate is, in my experience, capped at around 2 drops per second, which, while not insignificant, is not enough to drown a person in any reasonable length of time. The human lung can hold approximately 6 liters of air, at its highest (adult human male). At 2 drops per second, you would need at least half an hour to fill even one liter, which gives us about 3 hours to completely fill the lungs. Therefore, a person would need to be comatose, on their back, for a period of 3 hours of continuous blood flow in order to fill their lungs with blood, without any of the numerous biological responses kicking in to stop it from happening. Except, it literally can't happen, because the amount of blood in a human body assuming identical dimensions is 5.5 liters. Granted, having that much blood in your lungs isn't peachy anyway, but the pressure of the blood would drop enough to stop the flow long before that, and that's with the assumption that the numerous clotting factors all fail to contain the leak. A nose bleed is literally just a crack in the mucus membrane. It's no worse than a scratch. It would clot easily. The scenarios talked about in this comment are beyond the scope of reality, because of the millions of years of natural selection making it harder for us to die because of something like, say, a nosebleed in our sleep. The only plausible way a death could occur in one's sleep due to a nosebleed is that enough blood somehow makes its way into the trachea and clots, but even then we have ways of expelling blockages in our airways, like, say, coughing. The clot would not be solid, it would be more similar in consistency to a clump of phlegm, and we cough those up on a regular basis. Again, sorry for long comment, but I already gave you a potato, and I don't have another.
@CIoudStriker
@CIoudStriker 6 жыл бұрын
You bring up some good points. Though if the humidity constantly is close to zero percent, the blood might just clot much faster. Just playing devil's advocate here.

@Spacedock What is causing the economic collapse? Is it just a Drift shortage, which crashes interstellar trade? Because with viable fusion power (assuming it doesn't require Drift) and interplanetary travel and mining, the home system could easily support Trillions or Quadrillions of people if they had the infrastructure for it. With a massive economic shift like a shortage of a rare, valuable resource, though, it would take a while to adjust the economy to a non-drift or low-drift one.

A quick question about the soujourn will the series be purely about the exploration vessel (such as most Star Trek series) or will it feature political turmoil and status quo shifts (like in Babylon 5) or will it be something in between also can u make a video on the vorlon dreadnought from said Babylon 5
@Spacedock
@Spacedock 6 жыл бұрын
There will absolutely be crucial political threads to the main plot. The Expedition is a microcosm of the Cluster, carrying large contingents from each faction whose motivations are carried with them from the Cluster. And yes there will be serious Status Quo Shifts. Don't expect this show to be about the same place/situation forever.

@gokbay3057
@gokbay3057 6 жыл бұрын
TheDjbz well even if local days and years are different (which they definitely are) there could be (and probably is) a standardised calender to make interplenatery communication and trade easier. Which is why even in most soft sci-fi settings the time system is often called "standard". As in "1 standard hour/day/year".
@GabrielGABFonseca
@GabrielGABFonseca 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is Gabriel, Scientific Advisor for The Sojourn. Yes, the PCU stands for Post-Centrum Unification. The days of Centrum are the same as those of Earth. The increments of PCU are equivalent to years, so 1 PCU = 1 year, but reality is a bit more elaborate than that. I can't tell much about it now, though. My intention is that each panet has it's own local calendar dates and time variations, yes, but the Tantalus standard is PCU. :)

red stars aren't necessarily the coldest type of star, they are quite old though so lack the luster of newer and brighter blue stars.

Keepers dance fleet yards... KDFY does this perhaps take inspiration from KDY or is it a coincidence? This is fantastic and I'm excited.

Rialtis seems also to be a great planet to retire to and also to brew wine. Axius is the place that sounds like a scholar's paradise until the battles that overtook them that is and Valeria Sibus seems like the perfect place for outlaws as well as a good place for a bar fight.

So given that they have access to the materials of several whole star systems, why do the humans of the tantalus cluster face such material shortages? Given that you could build a modest dyson swarm from a single body the mass of Mercury it seems unlikely these star systems wouldn’t be similarly exploited, right?

So many fresh and to an extent original ideas, I love it! I'm almost afraid that I won't be able to follow all the lore when the Sojourn finally starts... Will you be compiling a searchable wiki, perhaps?
