Y'know, I think it finally occurred to me the exact kind of "disturbing" that Snaiad falls into. Specifically, that shared by the subjects seen within the paintings of Hieronymous Bosch. In isolation, Snaiadi life is frankly a bit goofy looking. However, when taken in as a totality, it feels like some complete and utter breakdown of order as we understand it.

I have three great video suggestions for you. Dhampirs; The Strange Case of the "boneless children", the ancient legends said that in the place of Bones they have a gelatinous substance and also have an instinctive hatred for vampires (pheromones perhaps?), they can be children of an uninfected with an infected, rare cases of women infected during pregnancy or just mutants. in legends, it was said that vampires still retained some of their humanity and ended up raping their wives. Vrykolakas; Rare cases of double infection by a pair of viruses that alter the genetics of their host, legends mention that "like wolves they walked on all fours" and depending on the source it was said that they "returned" as direwolves/werewolves. Exchange; half-demons whose only power is attractiveness (financial, sexual and or social), the legends said that succubi after "collecting" the semen would pass or become an incubus that there "places" in a woman, in this case I would say it would be a type of parasite similar to cuckoos.

The short story Airsled was also a real good one that featured some individuals of one of the races, the Avians.

Agreed! I would love to see angels, demons and lovecraftian horrors tackled! Though, I feel it’s worth mentioning that one of the core parts of cosmic horror is an inability to understand what you’re looking at, and also being limited by your physical form since elder gods are sort of sitting on the 4th, 5th, 6th dimension and beyond, if that makes sense. Maybe Potato could try it with the ones that are closer to earth, like shoggoths or gugs 🤔

They totally can still be existential threats even with the absurd aspects removed, like have them be a diverse kingdom of lifeforms that're formed from the outer god larvae that're shot out into space with the goal to seed planets, and ultimately function like aphids draining life from plants, they're not evil/malice, it's just their nature to feed on geothermal energy and reproduce/spread throughout the cosmos.

The basic premise of the main head being genitles enrages me as it makes no sense. It makes the genitles even more vulnerable and apart of any species first attack since on earth many species aim for the jaws to disable a creature from attacking and this would be even more true for Snaiad without many creatures having forelimbs. Plus, HOW WOULD THEY EXCHANGE GAMETES!?!? Intresting but stupid concept in the end.
@richie_0740
@richie_0740 Жыл бұрын
its actually holdover from the first creatures of snaiad, its explained that the reproductive organ was moved to their "head" so that the first organism of snaiad can easily identify each other in the primordial sea of snaiad, and that type of creature (hexapods with head genitals) would evolve better in snaiad, besides having 2 heads is beneficial, it means that the mouth in completely separate from the eyes, animals can eat while still having awareness from their other head, and that head can be further ornamented, attracting mates. and as for their reproduction the first "Heads" actually had an opening that exposes their reproductive organ, so literally, the animals mated by esentially making out using their first head

I cannot get enough specevo content! To add some more thoughts to this post, like your "vertebrate" remark implies, it's quite interesting that calling the organisms of other planets "animals" (and "plants") is not entirely unproblematic, because the term is only unambiguous as long as we know of only one tree of life (the Terran one). Although if one were to be very precise, one could also use the synonym "metazoa" for Terran animals (the reverse, hoping metazoa would catch on as a term for animal-analogues on other worlds, is futile, they would always be called "animals", it's the more humane and in its origin (literally meaning "beings that have souls") more romantic and better term).

If and when we do discover alien life, I suspect that taxonomists will come up with an appended code or symbol for organisms' scientific names, to designate which independently-evolved tree of life a given life form comes from. We might end up calling ourselves A-Homo sapiens, our dogs A-Canis familiaris, and so on, with anything from the first alien planet we learn of having a B-[Genus species] designation, etc.

My only complaint is that, as usual, the creator neglects the existence of integument in its creatures. I don't care that a lot of the anatomy feels 'lewd' because I think the whole point is that aliens don't have to confirm to what we think is right or pretty. They can be anything, including something that, to us, seems disgusting. To them, we probably seem just as gross. I actually applaud the creator for their boldness in creating creatures so overtly disgusting (yet natural) in their anatomy.

@@idle_speculation but the first head is not connected to the digestive system. There must be some sort of hole on the tongue-like head

@@NicolasPerez15 Exactly. The tongue protrudes from that hole, and can retract in host species, except for the Heterostomes, which have adapted it into a set of muscular pseudo-jaws

i really like it but there are some things not very probable. the nervous system relying on chemicals and hormones is just waaay to slow. these things take forever compared to electrical impulses these things would react in absolute slow motion. animals being the same on different continents is very unlikely too, exept they migrate over long distances, or maybe continental drift is much faster. the art and work on this is awesome though!
