I remember one of the reasons as to why the werehog was so controversial (back when the whole game was controversial) was that people claimed Sonic Team "ran out of ideas" and decided to make Sonic turn into a werehog at night. They clearly haven't if they made Sonic fight a knight, save some powerful aliens, master parkour, and team up with a player-made character in a lot of future titles.

My headcanon of how sonic got Dark Gaia powers. (Btw this is gonna be really long) DG woke up way ahead of schedule, meaning it barely had any energy. Dark Gaia used to the Chaos power thrown at him by Eggman to try and sustain itself. At this point sonic was still linked with the emeralds while DG was awakening so, Sonic, the Emeralds, and DG were linked thru chaos. Chaos emeralds and their power can operate remotely. Sonic transferred enough power to Shadow and Silver for them transform despite them not being in direct contact with the the emeralds. (This could also explain how Sonic Manifested chaos energy thru a fake emerald 🤔) DG took the emerald power (draining the emeralds) AND the Excess Chaos that was still in Sonic from his recent transformation. During this Chaos Resonance, while DG used Chaos, and Sonic’s leftover chaos to wake up, DG’s energy was transferred into sonic to fill the energy vacuum from the suddenly absent chaos power. Which explains why it looked like Sonic was having a stroke when DG took his power back.

I'd be curious to hear your opinions on Sonic Unwiished, as it was one of the first Sonic games I played. I remember playing this game religiously and still think it's extremely enjoyable to this day. As a bonus, a lot of the 'quirks' of the HD version aren't there, such as mandatory medals grinding, extra long night levels, and the fact that you battle Eggman in the Egg Cauldron and then he later says "I should have know you'd still be alive?" in Mazuri, referrring to Sonic's fall from space. When I finally got to the HD version, I was blown away and didn't notice any issues; to me it was absolutely flawless. I didn't mind having to collect medals or the fact that I could often count the frames displayed on one hand. It was truly magical to experience my favorite Sonic game through a new remastered lense and I'm glad I played it in this order. At the end of the day Sonic Unleashed probably wouldn't be one of my favourite games if it weren't for the Ps2/Wii version

Windmill Isle day sounds particularly different. Origins of the Hedgehog Engine: The Hedgehog Engine was originally intended to be used in Sonic '06. However, due to... Y-y'know; It's development was postponed until the next project. Which happened to be Unleashed. (An extra fact: The Hedgehog Engine was the first lighting engine that supported global illumination for video games in the world!)

i only have ever played sonic unleashed on the wii. i was blown away seeing that the PS3 version had a semi open world to it. but i don't believe the PS3 version is totally superior. the wii version removes the honestly unnecessary open world which gives it better pacing in those sections, and making the warehog segments shorter, again improving the pacing of the game
