I agree. This is one of the most passively hilarious scenes in the show. All the way down to AJ's assesine, nonsequetor one liner responses. The writers did a great job at depicting the absurdity of this family dynamic, and the insensibility of Tony as a father. His perception of ethics and justice skewed by his criminal mindset. AJ would've been better off with Bobby as a father. I feel as though they would've gotten along really well, those two.

@TheGooners11 I think you've missed the point. Chase apparently was very surprised that people hated AJs character since he was a reflection of his parents abysmal patenting. This example is a perfect reflection of that. Carmela spoils him rotten and lets him get away with everything, it's easy to convince her to let him go out. She still makes excuses for him -its never his fault, just like it wasn't with his job, his school etc. Meanwhile, Tony refuses to discipline him. It's little wonder AJ has no concept of consequence, he is lazy and performs badly in school and Tony doesn't do anything to solve it. He never teaches him a good work ethic and spoils him too. And when he acts up he eventually puts it down to him being a man or just growing up. They both mould AJ into the insufferable little brat he becomes: and they've the ones the viewers should be angry at.

So Tony gets him a job at the same production house that Christopher's movie Cleever came out of. Who's main product are pornos. Kids turn out the way they do because of their parents. We all become what our environment is like, the ones we have the strongest emotional bonds with is who we take the most influence from. That is why A.J. turns out the way he does. He doesn't conform to the way his parents raise him and lives in denial of it, just like Tony with his mother and sometimes his father with his panic attacks. There is always a reason people turn out the way they do, and very often it is not even their own fault. And people saying "A.J. should get beaten to be set straight" are those that needs psychiatric help to deal with their major problems that cause them to hurt others, because they can't deal with their own problems.

BS He deserved an ass kicking many times over. Also you don't always turn out a certain way b/c of parents and environment. It plays a part but not an excuse for everything. The simple fact is many people turn out to be the opposite of their parents and environments. How else do you explain how siblings turn out opposite of each other?

Justin Lecroy Children take from their parents, no matter what. And if you think using violence is a solution to anything, you may need to speak to someone. Yes, i agree that there are many other factors, but we humans take the most from who we trust the most. And 90% of us trust our parents and want to be like them and make them proud. Then when they do something we don't agree with, the problems arise. That's when a parent must have learnt the child how to deal with problems rationally, and not by brute force or through a power struggle, like Tony and Carmella do throughout his whole childhood. There is no wonder he tried to commit suicide. He tried to be obedient, but they never ever let him have a say.

Lmao when Carmela pulls the Uno reverse card on Tony and tells him AJ can go live with him. He did not think his cunning plan through.

Ray Curto has a story I'd have liked to see more of, too, seeing how he became a government informant and why, but I always did wonder about Gigi, he seemed to be highly respected by Tony but rarely seen compared to the other guys

If you were a Mother, you'd understand. Fatherhood is easy and is finished the moment you pull up your pants. Motherhood is harder work. Involving a lot of suffering and sacrifice.
