@PureKino4 жыл бұрын
Tony was definitely manipulating him into being loyal to him. Tony wanted Christopher to be a shield between him and any incriminating activities, and this was one way to make Chris feel like he owed Tony. Like I said though its unclear if he is lying about Barry. It's possible Tony might not know the full truth too, as he was young himself when Dickie died and wasnt made yet

I don't know. Chris wanted to make his way up the ranks. He was more than willing to do any job for Tony. Lying about something like that when he doesn't need to to manipulate Chris seems unnecessary and just opens up the possibility of too many complications. We never saw Tony make shit up completely to get the job done (Other than the lies he told Carmella) but not on the business level. This would seem out of the ordinary for Tony's character throughout the show.

@@PureKino -- Maybe we'll see how that cop REALLY figures in Dickie's story? Wouldn't it be a helluva HELLUVA twist if that cop actually SAVED Dickie's life, and Tony KNEW it, and that cop was a lowkey inside man for the Sopranos all these decades, but now that he's left the force, the crew have no use for him anymore (they were only keeping him alive because he saved Dickie's life dat one time dat one time). And so Tony sees an opportunity to gain Chrissie's loyalty AND off this guy that has outlived his usefulness (I mean he only saved Dickie dat one time dat one time!). This is a great summary of what is "known". You made a crucial point that no one except of Tony ever speaks about his father. The same Tony who lies indiscrimenately left and right based on what's good for his selfish interests. Earlier that season/episode Tony was at Melfi's speaking on how now he tries to create stronger bond with Chris, later on Tony shows Chris that retired cop. My point is that the only reference point from Sopranos is a character who has good track record of lying and manipulating everyone, so why not Chris from early on ? I would be surprised if it wasn't either Tony or his dad who whacked Dicke for some reason and since they were close, took Christopher under his wings out of guilt and long term good possibility of a successor without ever risking his future son. But I admit the last part is more of an imagination than what is likely to happen.

I think it’s already been confirmed it takes place over a time span from the 60s to the 70s. I remember seeing pictures of a Tony Soprano child actor on set.
@upstating4 жыл бұрын
There's also that part in Remember When, when Paulie says "You made your bones with that prick, eh?" (referring to Willie Overall) and Tony hesitates for a moment before saying "Yeah." Throughout the series, Tony acts more as a father to Chris than anyone else, and his constant tolerance for Christopher's screw-ups to me, suggest there's feelings of guilt. Tony isn't very forgiving with most people, but for Chris he is. Plus, back to the way Tony corrected him about the crib vs TV trays. Why would it have mattered? Well, dropping a guy carrying a crib for his kid would never look good. If the cop had done it, Tony wouldn't have cared what the story was. Then think about the car seat in the fateful Kennedy and Heidi episode... Calling it now, Tony was at least present when Dickie got clipped, if not the shooter, and I'll go further and bet there will be a crib on the ground next to Dickie when they show his body.

Okay this is all very possible, but the reason Tony hesitated was because Paulie brought it up in front of outsiders and was blabbing way too much.

This is exactly right. They usually start off as associates, who aren’t made and who may never be, until they prove themselves. You can’t become a soldier unless you’re made and unless you’re of Italian decent, you’ll never achieve a rank higher than an associate.

@@melmc9672 Ralphie grew up in Jersey alongside Tony Soprano, Silvio Dante, and Jackie Aprile Sr. He didn't move up in the ranks of the family nearly as fast as his peers; he credits this to not going along with the robbing of Feech La Manna's card game, which led to Tony, Silvio, and Jackie, Sr. getting made and respected.

What’s going to kill it is the movie length. I’ll be honest, sequel or prequel, I was not that excited, but the story of Dickie is actually one that’s worth exploring. I don’t think justice can be done to it in feature length format. David Chase never had the makings of a filmmaker.

Even if he was well respected, they just had to roll with it. It's an old rule that there's not allowed to be hits on cops or public officials. Of course that rule has been broken over the years, but it was cool that the writers included that rule. I believe Dickie was well respected because it was never forgotten about over the course of many years. Upon retirement, the guy was fair game, and they wasted no time in hitting him as soon as they possibly could.

Johnny Boy ordered the hit on Dickie. Nobody except for Tony spoke highly of him on the show. And Ray Liotta telling him to stay out of his life in the trailer was a clear warning.

One of Johnny Sach's final scenes was talking about Carmine. He was saying Carmine Said someone "Could go" because he was of no use anymore. I always thought he was referring to the cop that killed Dicky when he was retiring.

I remember the last season. I was deployed in Iraq. It was a tough deployment & was always on missions, guard duty or tower duty, or on QRF (quick reaction force). So had no downtime. But my mom recorded episodes to DVR & put them on dvds. I’d get 1 dvd with 3ep each, every 6-8 weeks. Portable DVD player up in the tower, on guard. Fuckin loved it! Grunt life!

I’m pretty sure Soldier means you are made. Associate is just somebody the mob works with or a potential made guy. Soldier is a made guy, then capo regime or captain boss of a crew then underboss who is kinda the bridge between the boss and the crews as to limit exposure to rats. The boss who is head of the family. Consigliere is a trusted advisor I don’t think they have to be a member of the family just somebody you trust. I might be wrong

Not at all how Dicki Moltisanti was played in the movie. Johnny Boy Soprano gives him high compliments to his brother Junior. He was no dummy. It was actually Junior who's portrayed as the village idiot in the movie and the one behind Dicki getting whacked. He was also no drug addict or alcoholic. Sociopathic, yes, but no idiot and no addict/alcoholic.

You definitely had some things right on. I just got done finishing TMSON on HBO Max, yes that was Holstens, eerie it is in the movie a few times. You had Artie and Jackie Aprile taking the ice cream truck. You were right on a lot and It definitely is a Dickie story, as you said. I did not see the first thing he did coming at all. Wow…. I loved the narration by Michael Imperioli. Then I hear them talking about TV trays so I knew what was coming but, whether or not it was a cop killing Dickie isn’t said for sure, suppressor was used…….hmmm I wonder if it really was the shooter but the man who ordered it…..damn, maybe that’s why he was left to live for so long, that was messed up.
