Man…Dickie wasn’t a drug addict. Spent the entire movie waiting for him to get high and it never happened. He died with the pills he picked up for Livia, and she spread the rumor that he was an addict. That was the biggest “hoooooo” moment for me.

Dickies uncle was quick to sniff out that he was lying about HOW his father & his goomah died. That’s why he told Dickie to stay away from Tony or he would’ve ended up killing Tony too. Which is ironic considering that it’s Tony who kills Dickies son, Cristopher. David Chase is a genius for that.

For those that think its out of character for Junior to kill him. I couldn't disagree more, and its in character a lot. He did NOT just kill him because of that joke, which some mistakenly think. I think they executed it a little sloppy so it leaves a lot of confusion. Makes me wonder if there were scenes that were cut for whatever reason and it feels it doesn't all fit. But reality is, Dickie was a RISING star, and Junior was becoming extremely resentful of this. Much like he was with Tony in the show. We could argue a lot of reasons why Junior tried to kill Tony. Reality is, Tony was a threat to Junior power. That was the ultimate reason. Everything else was him justifying doing it. Junior is extremely vindictive, petty, and insecure. When Johnny came out of prison, and he bashes Junior while singing praise of Dickie. Dickie was in prime position to overcome Junior. So Junior eliminated him before he could basically. And had the 'perfect timing' with the conflict with 'Harold'. So it could be assumed he was responsible. Junior is constantly being underestimated. He's very sneaky like this.

For the people that doesn't get it , this movie was an interpretation of who made tony soprano the boss that we know in the tv show , it has been clear that's Dickie who inspired him to become a mobster after seeing him dead , 2 minutes before dickie's death tony said that he would not like to be part of anything related to him , but when he saw him in the funeral his vision changed . Dickie's Uncle said to him that he have to stay away from Tony to protect him from himself , in the scene where tony was waiting for him at 9 o'clock it's the same restaurant where tony has been shot in the last scene of the show . In the movie Tony was in College and in the tv show they said that tony drop out from college to join the family business . Obviously this is what happened and this is where Tony Soprano has been made by Dickie Moltisanti like the movie poster said (WHO MADE TONY SOPRANO) . (English is not my native language , sorry if there's any mistake).

Just like the actual show, this should be watched more than once to understand more, that might have been missed the first time around. There's a lot that it explains in the 2 hrs, but I found that watching it again made things that much more clear & understandable... I wish it would have been at least 3 hrs long or more, if this is it... I hope not tho, cause I know a sequel would literally most likely be amazing...

I mean, I think it was always implied that he was kinda lying. Remember how he told Christopher that Dickie was shot while he was bringing home “a crib” for Chrissy. Then Chrissy said “They always told me he was carrying TV trays” then Tony tries to cover up his lie. I dunno, Tony manipulating Chrissy seems like a very Tony thing to do in my opinion.

I took a lot of what didn't quite line up with what we were told about Dickie as the way people become stories when they're gone. For better or worse. Then there's the point that Tony was almost definitely lying to Christopher about Dickie. As for the blind kids, that was a very weird, almost dream-like sequence, but that's on brand for Chase and his sudden bursts of surrealism.

Excellent movie. Being Italian, I was always curious about the derivation of last names because they would most often translate to a town, adjective, religious derivation, etc. Found it particularly clever when I realized that Molti-Santi translates to Many Saints.

Am I’m the only one who’s upset about the way junior was portrayed. They turned him into Fredo Corleone. In the series he was quick witted,funny, and smart. He walked in room with confidence and a always gave tony sound advice. In the movie they turned him into a joke of a wise guy.

Yeah. I just rewatched the scene a minute ago. You don't get a good look at the shooter's face. He's white, slim built with a flat-type hat...and he used a silencer. Chase is good at leaving loose ends, or having plot line open ends so that people can say, "Yeah. Must have been the cop" like it says in the show. Or others can say that that was a lie and it was someone else, and still possibly be right. Either way we know Junior orchestrated it.

Chase has always managed to write Tony in such a way that you like him & sort of root for him when you shouldn’t because he manages to convince you at times that there is good somewhere in Tony & he does the things he does because he has to. Then Chase will throw these curveballs & you feel sick for ever thinking he was anything but evil. That’s how I felt after the truth about Dickie’s death curve ball. We don’t know for certain if Tony lied to Christopher or not but we do know Tony would 100% do something like that if it benefited him to do so. So, I’m 90% sure that’s what happened here. Tony lied to Christopher as a way to kill two birds with one stone. He got Christopher’s devoted loyalty while also taking out the cop he wanted gone for whatever reason.

A sequel to the prequel so we can see how everyone evolves overtime. It would be awesome to see Tony Soprano in his early 20s growing in to the boss he became years later. Fill in all the gaps ! I thought the prequel was very good and having Christopher narrate a story about his father was great. I always knew that Cop never killed Dickie but that Junior was behind Dickie’s killing wow! I’d definitely watch another movie telling more of how Tony came up through the mob Ranks and find out if Tony ever actually knew that Junior was behind Dickie’s Murder.

Lol did you guys ever watch the Sopranos? David Chase is a big fan of anti-climax. It's largely the point of the show. Gangsters don't get grand culminations of character and total narrative fulfilment - they get shot in the back of the head because they said the wrong thing to the wrong person at the wrong time. Brutal, senseless death and destruction at all times. That's the whole idea. It's evil. Remember in season 2 of the show, with all that ramping up of tension with Richie and Tony, that felt like it could only end in a war? It ended because he hit Janice and she got pissed and shot him.

Interesting bit of viewing. Lots of replayed scenes from the series, recreations of events that were discussed or mentioned in the series, and a few surprises. No spoilers, but this isn't a story about Tony's family so much as his relationship with Christopher's father growing up. The scene is set for a Soprano takeover of the DiMeo Jersey gang interests, but not necessarily in the way it was told to Tony and by extension other characters in the show. For those who have or haven't seen it yet, look for a little toss from Chase that gives you a flash of insight into that cryptic series last scene early in the movie.

Maybe it's just me but after watching today I was left with a large feeling of wanting. Some characters you would expect had really no development and other characters ending was just incredibly abrupt. One thing I did noticed, Dickie wasn't a drug addict at all not even a alcoholic, he just drank a little to stiffen his nerves but he wasn't an alcoholic. Bad temper and full of rage in a very dark personality yet charming but yet he will kill you in a heartbeat. He see what he did to his father and his girlfriend. Dickie is scary, very unpredictable just like Christopher was Christopher do violence in the heartbeat.
