Junior did speak italian. Hes getting old here and cant always make distinctions, especially since he probably spoke Napolitano/avellinese and not standard italian used in the movies, the movie may have been confusing especialy since its a fellini movie, who influenced tarantino. Like someone else pointed out Junior has been losing his edge mentally for awhile at this point and sometimes worse than other he once thinks its him and Bobby on TV and has to be told several times it not them and just a show. The captions are most likely just on all the time because Junior probably cant hear to good anymore and he speaks English too but old people often have trouble making out what's been said or keeping up with tv that moves fast or where they arent familiar with the characters and cant keep up with the plot. He once said they tossed Jesus from a helicopter on one program but he could tell it was dummy he may have seen that very thing but it's also probable nothing like that happened and he totally mixed up the plot.

If you don’t lose it you lose it. My aunt immigrated here from the Philippines when she was 14, married an American 19, her close friends were american and she assimilated fully. She can barely speak Tagalog at all anymore. My mother immigrated at the same time but had a lot Filipina friends and kept a closer bond with our family in the states and back in PI. She still speaks Tagalog often and fluently. Junior probably lost most of his Italian besides some songs and catch phrases.

Hugh acting like Junior told him there was no Santa Claus the presents really been coming from Tony the last 20 after Santa got in a little over his head and Tony had to bust him out. If Hugh didnt know they were going to have him a party then he must be an incredibly easy man to fool and to please. Every year it's "now dad you know we're going to be out of town on your bday so we won't get to see you" cut to Hugh crying in bathroom stifling sobs with a towel and then forward a few days to Hugh "I oughta get you guys you had me thinking you were out of town whose idea was it? Tony wasnt it? Whippersnapper had me going." This is if Hugh even gets they didnt cancel there trip there was no trip it was just made up to suprise him and this is a distinct possibility even likely this goes straight over his head. I bet they had fun going to Chuck E Cheese most every year for Hugh's big day but A.J. probably got caught smoking pot in the bathroom or performing seances so they had to chang it to the house no doubt a bitter blow to Hugh considering he was damn close to that stuffed animal and in a tight race with a fifth grader for the ski ball points record but Tony told him he would take him for fathers day. Tony being the good son in law he is also had Paulie or Clarence go and talk to that kids dad about staying away from the ski ball dont even drive by Chuck E Cheese not even on the weekends.
