Bobby changed after this too. You can tell during the last few episodes that he had lost his spunk, his child-like jovialness that has always has in the series up until this point. Even at the end when he's at the train store, and says his son doesn't care about trains... He's down on himself, not the same after murdering a man..

Sopranos Home Movies. I remember watching this episode and, after the fight, I was on pins and needles waiting for Tony’s payback to Bobby. And when Tony turns to Bobby and says “you’ll take care of this ... no bows and arrows now.” my immediate thought was, you SOB, the payback for beating you in a fight is that you’re going to make him a murderer. Brilliant writing. The second payback is Bobby got a promotion which made him a target for NY and why he was killed in the Blue Comet episode later that season.

I once worked doing sales in a showroom that had a huge warehouse in the back. This was over 20 years ago and I was a new hire. One night, It was me, and the forklift guy in the back who handled the warehouse. He had been there for many years. It was closing time so naturally I was prepping the shop for closing. The forklift guy walks into the showroom and starts pacing nervously back and forth. I looked at him all weird because he was acting weird. He had a very scared look on his face. His eyes were bloodshot like he had been crying or something, I dunno. So I ask him if he was okay. After a few moments of hesitation he starts to ramble a story of how he once worked for the cartel smuggling drugs along with his best friend. One night after a long drive through the desert they both started to argue over the work they were doing and the money involved. I guess he had pulled over and they started to physically fight. The forklift guy pulled out his gun and shot his best friend dead and buried him in the desert. I'm not even joking, lol. I was like woah, wtf???. Then he proceeds to tell me that he is having major anxiety and panic attacks because of, and get this, the dead friend's soul had been following him around ever since his murder and because of which is was scaring the shit out of the forklift guy. Needless to say I quit from that place not long after that. True story.

This episode had so much hidden meaning. The monopoly piece being the house that is shown always gets to me. It symbolises Tony realising after that fight that Bobby will protect his family I.e his house because of his marriage to Janice. Another part that got to me was the tearing of Bobby’s shirt. It rips from the left breast symbolising his heart. Bobby was the only real compassionate guy in the NJ family and showed genuine love for those around him whereas everyone else were cold hearted killers and liars. Bobby’s heart was ripped out that day and it only went downhill from there. Tony really pulled a number on everybody he came across.

Believe it or not Tony did NOT make Bobby do the hit out of revenge for the fight. Tony admired and respected Bobby for the fight, and now planned on bringing Bobby very close but needed to be absolutely sure he could trust him. Now he knows he can. Every time we see Bobby after this episode he is darker, colder, always calculating idead with Tony, until he backslides into his childish hobby one more time, and dies.

I think Tiny definitely wanted to be nasty to Bobby, Tiny repeatedly showed how spiteful he was. You couldn't be more right on the trust thing though, Bobby needed to be as guilty as everyone else. In a way, think this is what cemented the respect Tony developed for Bobby. There were instances in the past where Tony began to recognise Bobby's worth and capabilities... But after that fight, after that discussion on the boat before that. Then to basically say yes to doing the hit personally when asked, without question, without hesitation and getting it done. I believe it showed Tony that Bobby was a legit made guy and could be trusted. Then again in organized crime, performing a hit properly is obviously a well known test of reliability and trust.

Thats one way to look at it. On the other hand, if you take Hell into consideration (how many times has the Hell been referenced in the Sopranos is unquestionable), Tony made Bobby - the guy who probably could have served 10000 years in purgatory for his venial sins caused by his ignorance - go straight, one-way only direction to hell in a short period of time where he would be shot in a train toy shop.

Bobby was far too good of a man to be put through everything Tony put him through. I remember the first time I watched this episode, “Soprano Home movies”, after Bobby kills reluctantly kills that guy and then he finally gets back to the lake house and Nica goes running to him yelling “daddy!” because she’s so happy to see him….how he just scoops her up and hugs her so tight while looking across the lake with that sad look on his face….brought tears to my eyes. Reminds me of how my dad would come pick me up at the end of summer camp each August. 2 weeks at summer camp each year and my dad would always be the one to pick me up and we would get ice cream on the way home. Everytime he showed up to pick me up at camp I remember just running to him and he would scoop me up and twirl me around and give me the biggest hug. Some of the most happy and important memories of my whole life. Just seeing my dad running towards me with his arms open and this big goofy grin on his face like he was so happy to see me. I was a daddy’s girl and still am. My momma was always favoring my brothers, and even though I love my mother dearly, we for some reason always butted heads. But not my dad. He was my hero. I always loved Bobby’s character because he really did have an innocence about him that the other guys in the show never had. He was the teddy bear of the group! I was so sad when they killed him. Especially because they killed him in the fucking toy store while he was shopping for his beloved model trains.

I honestly shed a tear when I saw Bobby get whacked. Best character in the show. Represented the old way when the mafia was all about business.

Not gonna lie Tony's sheer pettiness and malice made me laugh.... To make someone do this who is made and never killed someone and is already in their mid-40's is pure evil...

Don my ass. There has never been a boss in the history of the mafia where he agreed to represent another wise guy as the boss of the family, while retaining the ability to make the decisions. Bosses have way too much ego to allow them to do such a thing, especially given the fact it is sending mixed messages to the soldiers. I say BS to that part of the writing.
