not saying this to anyone in particular, but... gambling is designed to fuck with your brain's reward system, it causes cravings like any other drug. sometimes you just gotta recognize that and endure the discomfort of the cravings without acting on them. the longer you reject those cravings and choose not to gamble, the easier it gets.

I'm pretty sure that would never fly in a real casino or horse track. Since the amount is that large, they would back track it to see who paid for it. Along with betting any amount over 10k, they ask for an government ID. Since this story line is set around the late 90's, they would have security footage of him or somebody else paying for that ticket. Long story short, even though the gambler threw away, what they thought was a losing ticket, nobody else can cash it cept him or it can just go un-refunded which is cool by the horse track's standards.

His gambling in the later seasons, really underlines his fall. His Dad told him to never gamble and then his talk with Carmine Jr. underlined how he is now happy not being a boss, whereas Tony's world is crumbling as the boss. That scene with Carmine Jr at a Golf course after the Jerry The Hairdo hit (Silvio as an unwitting diversion) is a small but crucial scene in the later episodes. Tony's gambling, stress and impending doom of being a boss, and Carmine's practically stress free life, not being a boss.

@@secondcomingofbast9908 It's such a weird, dreamy sequence I don't know if it was meant to have any basis in reality. However, it stands to reason that if you could somehow measure the precise force used by a dealer to spin a roulette wheel, and any other factors involved (e.g. the force of air conditioning in the casino) you could predict where the ball would land. They are only allowed to spin it once.

I'll never understand the reckless gambler's mentality. Tony gets extraordinarily lucky to hit 23 (long odds) and proceeds to bet on the same number again with a pile of cash he just won on the infinitesimal chance that the stars will shine twice in the same place. Loses everything. Boneheaded.
@Eghyaggihn3 жыл бұрын
Its always same chance for 23 to be winning number
@Grenadier3113 жыл бұрын
@@Eghyaggihn Hmm. You're technically correct. I was once a math ace until I damaged my brain, but after several chance-based events, does not the likelihood of a repeated result within this paradigm not decrease? 20 heads in a row without tails? I should probably research this phenomenon before asking you.

@blaisevillaume22253 жыл бұрын
@@Grenadier311 In the scenario you give in the original post, the 23 has already hit and they are deciding whether to bet again. So, the question would be "given that 23 has hit, what is the probability it will hit again?" In that case, the fact that 23 hit previously is actually irrelevant and the probability is 1/38. The probability of repeated events is multiplied. On roulette, that would translate to making a bet prior to two spins and betting it hits 23 twice in a row. The probability of that occurring would be 1/1444. Small, but not in any way infinitesimal. The payout would be very juicy and a casino in Vegas offering such a bet might be at risk of paying it out several times a day. That is probably why they don't offer any type of sequential betting in roulette, aside from it being a nightmare to keep track of.
