Breaking Bad is fantastic, but the Sopranos is the best. I really think Breaking Bad is likely to appeal to idiots as well as intelligent viewers, which is kind of verified by Fly being its worst rated episode. That was actually a great episode but because there's "too much talking, not enough violence!" the morons don't like it. The Sopranos had violence and guns and fights, but there was a lot more introspection in it, and they usually refused to give the audience the obvious outcomes - such as certain deaths being completely unexpected and non-glamorous (Chris, Richie Aprile for example), so it's a show less likely to appeal to the idiots in TV Land.

In someway, these shows are very much alike, and they’re also very different too. To me, both had excellent seasons all the way through but I will admit it kind of took a couple seasons for Sopranos to really find their identity enroll with it. I’m not saying the first two seasons were bad at all. I like them a lot. You can tell when you’re watching especially season one that he still kind of going off the blueprint from the classic mafia movies. Even using some of the same songs that I had heard in some of the classic mafia films. Again, not saying that’s bad I just feel like from season three on they became one of the best shows in television history. What makes breaking bad so special is you never have to worry about them finding their identity because as the viewer, you’re watching, a man go from a law abiding citizen to a criminal in each season he gets deeper and deeper and the deeper he gets into the criminal world the more you can do with it. So it’s just a progressive growth all the way through. My three favorite shows are sopranos, breaking bad in Sons of Anarchy, and they’re all that realistic style of crime drama and there are similar things with all three of them. All three are about a criminal organization but other than that they can be very different. I really go back-and-forth with which one of the three I like the best. It just depends on my mood. I can never say one of them is so much better than the other two.

BB is solid but not on the level of The Sopranos. There's a LOT of issues with BB but aside from a few odd edits that can't be said about The Sopranos. But I also just don't rank BB like some do. I put Oz, The Wire, and probably even Mad Men above it (and under TS) with shows like Ozark competing pretty well too. I feel like BB's finale makes people overlook a lotta the flaws be it annoying writing (writing about things they don't fully understand and botching it - like personality disorders, writing characters into increasingly absurd corners requiring increasingly absurd solutions instead of letting the strength be the characters, the amazing acting, and attention to detail, etc), inconsistent character development, horrible pacing issues, etc. Where BCS is probably actually better on almost all those fronts but has a horrible ending imo that retroactively hurts the whole show. The Sopranos will be very hard to beat. It's like the Jordan Bulls, 80' pop, the 70's punk scenes, etc, very much the product of a particular ruins and place as well as the people involved. Lightening that isn't likely to strike again any time soon.

Sorry if this comes off like an interrogation, but out of just friendly curiosity, Why is BCS’s ending horrible? And what inconsistent character moments are there in BrBa?
@jesterchesterfield23747 ай бұрын
No doubt of all the endings BB, the wire, BCS and the sopranos, BB has the best ending. Sopranos final season didn’t really feel like the end.

I personally think it's impossible to say one is better than the other because they're so different. Just for one gigantic difference, Walt is a mostly sympathetic character who spends most of the show trying to be a good person, whereas Tony is way more repugnant and hateful and unapologetically violent. The main thing I PERSONALLY don't like about The Sopranos is that I cannot sympathize with any of the characters. Same for Game of Thrones with only a handful of exceptions. This makes those shows less enjoyable for me. I also love the heavily stylized nature of Breaking Bad, and I find the struggles of the characters to be way more interesting and relatable than those in The Sopranos. I like both shows, and I think both are fantastic quality, but I have rewatched Breaking Bad 3 times, and I will probably never rewatch The Sopranos, aside from some of my favorite moments.

Seems biased. Since when is quotability a criterium for a good show? I’d rather have a good show with not that many memorable quotes than an average show with a lot of good quotes. You could have focused on other aspects like acting, (though that’s a tough one) cinematography, character arc… I feel like it’s comparing apples and oranges anyway. They’re very different and it comes down to either personal taste, personal nostalgia or both.

Both are great but sopranos has a lot more inconsistencies, continuity errors, and arch’s that aren’t very interesting or end up not going anywhere. The only one I can think of in breaking bad is with Marie in the early seasons.

I think the point of the Marie scenes is to show she has the same criminal tendency and denial as Walter.

Well, in BB we have the Salamanca Twins who spokes or act for convenience to the script, we have jessie pinkman who acts so inconsistent to make conflict between characters. I am rewatching BB for the third time and so many scenes are made just for drive to a spectacular scene or moment, some characters are unearthly like they know they are in a show and they have to make stupid things to drive the show in certain way.

No way! I'm fan of two these series. I even watched them four times at last and no, fucking no way Sopranos is better than Breaking Bad. I challenge everyone to watch each one and figure out which is more better. Breaking Bad is the best drama series. Again, I'm fan for the both tv shows.

The first episode of Breaking Bad is the best episode. The first Sopranos episode is the worst episode. I find Sopranos consistently got better til the 6th season and then had a few lesser episodes that were still good. Breaking Bad got pretty ridiculous towards the end with the nazi plot. The airplane crash was already a bit farfetched, nevermind the cartoonish Gus death scene and the cringe twins. Despite all that Breaking Bad managed to keep me on the edge of my seat and for that it's a fantastic show. Sopranos on the other hand, every episode felt like a movie. At the end of the episode, there was no cliffhanger, even though many plots ran for multiple episodes or even seasons. There was some kind of closure on the A-plot of the episode. In that way, both shows differ a lot from eachother. There are however many similarities. Having watched Sopranos first, made Breaking Bad feel like a cheap copy in some ways. Sure, the stories and setting are very different, but some of the character dynamics were straight up copied from the Sopranos. Even some scenes in Breaking Bad were heavily inspired by the Sopranos. In the end I feel they cater to a different, but overlapping crowd. Sopranos tries to balance psychological drama, dark humour and soap opera elements with classic maffia films. Breaking Bad tries to do the same thing, but less fleshed out and more speedy and trying to appeal to younger people. Basically, childhood is thinking Breaking Bad is the GOAT, adulthood is realizing Sopranos is the greatest of all time.

Yeah, I would have to agree with you that El Camino was better than the Many saints of Newark . But I don’t think Many Saints of Newark , was anywhere near as bad as people made it out to be. I actually thought it was good I mean no it’s not in my top five mafia movies. I know it’s cliché, but I think it’s true. Instead of a movie they should’ve done a 10 episode miniseries where each episode was an hour long. And there were some things that didn’t match up canon wise with the show. For example, Silvio’s hair changes length in the series, you see his hair get messed up a few times, and then they just decided to make it a toupee in the movie? Honestly, that’s the thing that bugs me about that movie the most 😂

When you bring up shows with perfect endings Breaking Bad is one of the only shows that comes up consistently. I hear it all the time, it was an actual ending and a lot of people deny Tony is dead. Soprano bias on that one because Sopranos is infinitely better and yet Breaking Bad nailed their ending.

Its all like comparing apples to orangutangs. Sopranos at its finest was a deep dive into the mind of a truly evil man. But what carried Sopranos was its winning formula of likable sitcom characters doing evil deeds. And at its worst, Sopranos just stretched that formula till breaking, too many repeat sub plots and way too many dead episodes and boring artsy fartsy dream sequences. Breaking Bad was a whole other thing, one story around one man's rise and fall in crime as opposed to the non-continuous meandering of Sopranos. At best BB was like a well written novel with hints and red herrings to clue or mislead the viewers. It was about the delusions of the main character and us following him into the abyss. At worst, it was stretching reality out as opposed to a series like The Wire. Neither show is better, one is a quotable sit-com with a deeper meaning, the other is an adventure. I enjoy them both.

i kinda don't like this kind of argument because you can practically say that about any comparison at all. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad has some intersect theme and quality and when they both discussed to be the best shows of all time, it's pretty fair to compare them despite the diference in the narritive style. the point of the comparison is to spot the difference and analyse which one is done better which is up to opinions. But, it's all subjective anyway so i don't get why comparing the two isn't justified. Maybe just me but i think it's pretty damn fair to think either show is better.
